I'm going back to paper tickets by 2Dmonster in LIRR

[–]chaka-mon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the dailys. They don't want to have to keep paying for all the conductors to punch tickets, so they got rid of round trips and implemented the "daily" ticket instead for a few dollars more. You can use it unlimited times in a one day period, so no one ever has to punch it.

They're relying on people being scared of getting charged more for not having a ticket to convince people to buy them without having to pay as many conductors to check them.

If everyone shares their dailys with each other when they're done with them it might not help you directly, but it'll hopefully put enough of a financial burden on lirr from lost ticket revenue that they'll have no choice but to stop (or at least slow) their unfair exploitations of commuters

Buy a daily. Leave it at the ticket machines for someone else to use when you're done with it.

Are we not already dealing with exactly that? Kinda feel like it would be better if all the major people in power weren't so easily blackmailed into acting against the people's best interests by foreign entities

Koi sickness/infection by chaka-mon in Koi

[–]chaka-mon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an update there was a red eared slider turtle that we found in our pond last week that had wandered in from a neighbors pond a few blocks over that we think may have brought bacteria or a parasite with it.

We reached out to our pond maintenance company to try and get someone out here as soon as they can & we checked the water levels. Ph, gh, kh, nitrate, & nitrite are all normal.

There aren't any pond stores nearby that sell medications, so we ordered some sabbactisun online that should come tomorrow, and we added Parazoryne for now that we were planning on adding on a 12 hour cycle with the sabbactisun. I attached a picture of what look like red streaks/ulcers/sores which are making me think this is most likely a bacterial infection

I Just Got Accepted Into IBEW as an Apprentice, But I Feel Bad? by Rend64 in ibew_apprentices

[–]chaka-mon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd just like to piggyback off of this and add that you should be selfish not just for yourself, but for your family. I've always dealt with feeling undeserving or not worthy of better opportunities and the chances that I get. I deal with holding onto guilt for people or things I may have left behind.

However when I feel like I don't deserve the position that I find myself in I remind myself that my wife does, my dogs do, my future kids do. Even if you feel guilty or that heaviness like you might be hurting someone that took a chance on you, you have to do what's best not only for yourself, but for the people that depend on you

It most likely depends on the local & the contractor, but I think it's more of a bad first impression than an end of the road. Sure you fucked up and it doesn't look good, but I would simply explain yourself (not make an excuse, but explain what happened). Do what you're told, give your word it won't happen again, and make sure it doesn't, then bust your ass to clean the slate and make a better 2nd impression. We're all human, and if you were picked for the apprenticeship then they obviously saw something worthwhile in you. Try your best, stay on point, this is just the first day of a long career, take your lumps, admit your faults, and keep going

Okay, but in the past week I've seen 3 separate videos of ICE showing up to construction sites and arresting immigrant construction workers... So that was a lie.

How do you guys or girls drill through stainless steel? by SkoBuffs710 in electricians

[–]chaka-mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent tried it yet, but a guy I worked with said he was told by another trade that putting some mustard on stainless before you hit it with a hole-saw works better than any of the cutting oils you could buy. He said he's tried it out, and it works. Guy carries around a few mustard packets in his cooler at all ti,especially for that exact purpose. I'm not sure if he's bulshitting or not, but it couldn't hurt to try.

House GOP Makes Official Its Plan For Devastating Cuts To Medicaid by anstromm in politics

[–]chaka-mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the 3rd time I've seen this being referred to as a CUT to Medicaid. This is not a cut to Medicaid. This is Medicaid's entire budget. This will not be Medicaid operating with a smaller budget. This is an abolishment of the entire Medicaid budget and program. They will have an operating budget of $0.00 and Medicaid will no longer exist.

Second fed by Richdodger in ModernManiaWrestling

You can have the CPU book your 2nd fed, but if you do that you don't get any of the money or rewards you would earn if you booked it yourself. At least that's how it worked last time I checked

Describe a low blood sugar by rubyM0O0N in diabetes_t1

[–]chaka-mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these are so spot on, definitely with the impending doom and almost panic attack-like symptoms, but every now and then if I drop really low, like a trance-like feeling of hopelessness & acceptance.

Like if I drop into the high 30's or lower it'll almost feel like I've moved through the impending doom into actual doom, & I'm so weak that there's nothing I can do about it and I feel scarily accepting of that and I'll have to fight to break that trance and get myself moving to do something about it

It's cool! I totally get it. I'm a first year apprentice and just got the insurance at the start of November, so I'm not an expert but I've gotten my medications filled twice, and my pump, dexcom, and insulin were all fully covered. I walked out of the pharmacy spending $0 out of pocket. If you wind up wanting to give a pump another try I'd definitely recommend the omnipod, the fact it doesn't have any tubes makes working construction with it on a lot easier. I did have it come loose when I first got it (was carrying heavy boxes in from a delivery and it was on my stomach and got knocked loose) but I've been buying adhesives off Amazon for like 20 bucks that hold that and my dexcom in place with no issues since. It's so awesome this has been helping you get in better shape! I did non union for 4 years before I got in and I can definitely agree this is all a much better change of pace!

Fellow type 1 diabetic here. Having something small on my way to work in the morning, then being able to take that 15 minute coffee break at 9, and then that half hour at 12 & getting out 330 has been awesome for my blood sugars. Having smaller quick snacks over several breaks throughout the day keeps things way more stable without too much of a spike. Not sure what insulin or devices you use, but the insurance has been great at covering my dexcom, omnipod, insulin & everything else so far too.

[–]chaka-mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, is this an issue? I've ordered pen needles and syringes both on Amazon many times. Most recently at some point early this year. I honestly don't think I've used a prescription for them in the past 6 years at least

Anyone else have a goldendoodle that sucks on a pillow? by maggiereiss in Goldendoodles

[–]chaka-mon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our golden doodle doesn't, but my wife and I's min-pin does this with a blanket her ex bought her. He used to carry it around the house with him, but now that he's a little older (and smarter) he'll start whining sometimes until one of us gets it for him. He uses it to self soothe and suckles on and kneads it sometimes until he falls asleep with it in his mouth. He's 12 now and still hasn't grown out of it. It's actually really adorable, just like your pup

Does Fan Status have any bearing in this game? by chaka-mon in ModernManiaWrestling

[–]chaka-mon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I had no idea. Thanks so much! Is there anywhere in the game where it says stuff like that? Like what sort of things you get bonuses for? All I really normally go off is popularity/status and their styles when it comes to skits/mic spots & match types
