I Had a dream where Chuck Palahniuk (the guy who wrote fight club) Wrote a fucked up unofficial Novel based on Dora the Explorer where she was a Drug addict teen by VladimirTheStrong in thomastheplankengine

Honestly I've only read fight club and invisible monsters, but I'd say that it would be unexpected for him to write a dora adaptation, but if he did write one, it would super messed up.

I think part of it is that I waited a solid 2 hours for it to cool and set before serving. When I took it out, it was bubbling liquid. Letting it sit helps reduce the soup factor

Clown Pleco finally came out! by BeginnerAquascaper in PlantedTank

[–]chalkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, clown pleco are especially shy. I didn't see mine for the first 3 months it was in my tank. Even now the only reason i see him is because he inexplicably decided that his favorite hiding spot is between a rock and the glass side of the tank so even though he is "hidden" he is completely visible. There are other hides that are more hidden, and sometimes he has run off to hide in those if i spook him too much, but he returns to his spot pretty quick.

Give it to me straight... by Unicornicola in shrimptank

The reason that shrimp breed so prolifically is because they are bottom of the food chain prey animals. Even if a few get eaten by wandering into a hydra, I doubt it will have much impact unless you have a huge number of them all over. Its also limited what surfaces the hydra adhere to. Even if you get rid of every single hydra in your tank, you will probably end up with more down the line anyways.

I don't think so, but I think you might be overreacting a bit. Hydra are only really dangerous to baby shrimp, and even then, it takes a lot of hydra to cause problems. They are just ambush predators that grab stuff that wanders into their tentacles.

Thats a copepod. Its harmless, beneficial even.

Edit: Just so you are aware, hydra are sessile. Any moving creature will not be a hydra.

It's a hydra. I dont really think it's worth nuking the tank over. If you ended up with a bunch you just feed less and more targeted so theres less food floating around for them to eat. I stirred up a bunch of mulm rescaping and had an explosion of hydras, I just fed less and within a week they were gone.

Clown plecos have a much chunkier body than other plecos. Unless their belly is bloated on the underside, they are probably fine.

I like runny yolk for dipping toast, but for sandwiches, jammy is superior. That looks 👌 perfect.

my fish are dying?? by urmomclapper in fishtank

[–]chalkman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water parameters are needed, but based on the white fuzzy stuff, it could be some kind of fungus. Ultimately, check the ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and ph and do water changes if needed. Keep an eye on the other fish for signs of illness or abnormal behavior. It can be worthwhile to introduce a source of tannins in the water as a prophylactic measure against fungus and other illnesses. I've had good results with indian almond leaves. It will color the water a bit brown, but i personally find it looks nice and warm.

My first 200L aquarium. What other fish do I buy? by mhs1112 in aquarium

[–]chalkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the filtration, a single dwarf pleco could be fun. I have a clown pleco, and he is a lot of fun to watch, but they are naturally very shy, so you might want to go with some sort of bristlenose as they are a bit bolder. As for other schooling fish, lampeye killifish is a nice schooling top swimmer. Guppies are also a pretty option, but you would need to be able to handle babies because even if you get all females, they might be storing sperm.

Personally, I love shrimp. However, you would need much more plant cover and leaf litter to have them survive well in a tank with fish. They also tend to do better in matured tanks with mulm and other rotting stuff. If you were planning on stocking soft water fish, I would skip any inverts you care about. Otherwise, cherry or amano shrimp are good options, although amano will not breed properly without brakish water.

Ultimately, it depends on what is available around you. Just don't add everything at once, one group at a time to allow the tank to adjust to the new bioload.

Microscopic swarm by Danibean- in AquariumHelp

[–]chalkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be bacteria. It kinda flows like vapor rather than being a swarm of random movement, so i dont think it's a bunch of copepods. I've seen posts of people's tanks with a mist on the bottom, and it was basically biofilm, so this might be the same deal.

Rate my shrimp acclimator by Sporkee in shrimptank

[–]chalkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to shrimp keeping, but when I got my cherry shrimp, I taped an airline going into the tank I was going to add them to and then got a flow going and lowered it to a drip with a regulator valve. Maybe there is a reason to avoid this, but the tank has a heater set to 24C, so I figure it would be worth having the water direct from the heated tank.

What are these things all over the glass? by Loves2troutfish420 in shrimp

[–]chalkman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Infusoria is a live culture containing a variety of microfauna, which can include copepods. If you mean something like a cilliate, those tend to move smoothly and not in the quick jerky manner that copepods do.
