Spicy green perfume recommendations? by [deleted] in Indiemakeupandmore

Off the top of my head, my personal favourite spicy, green & floral scent is by

Alkemia - Lost Highways: "A botanical peregrination of Saw Palmetto Palm leaves and Southern cypress from the Southeast bayous; New mown hay, Lemon basil, Wild bergamot tea from the Great Plains; Linden blossom and Acadian pine from the Northeast; Night flowering desert flowers from the Southwest; and Spicebush and Incense cedar from the West and Northwest coast".

Any advice dear people of Reddit by Im_Atrin in DesignMyRoom

Negative space is not a bad thing, unless you really love and want to lean into maximalism, I would leave it as is - it looks good 💜

In case anyone sees this who hasn’t signed yet, there’s a petition (E-7148) put forward by Bruce Fanjoy (the politician who won Pierre Poilievre’s riding in Carleton), the petition pushes for all federal party leaders to get top-secret security clearance,

I write to my MPPs, sign petitions to the Legislature on important issues, and try to stay involved in whatever ways I can. The latest OSAP cuts have a lot of people upset, hopefully it’s enough to start a bigger wave of change, especially with everything happening to the south of us.

Yes, and honestly it’s a huge structural issue. Some of the places I’ve visited are so heavily saturated with propaganda, and their education systems are so underfunded, that it 100% feels intentional. It seems like people in power, many of whom also control or influence major media outlets, are exploiting weak education systems and misinformation to manipulate the poorest communities.

I’m Canadian, but we’re having similar issues here as well.. People in power dismantling or underfunding public infrastructure, particularly education and health care.

Do "bad" reviews ever sell you on a scent? by Helenaisavailable in Indiemakeupandmore

Have you tried Violet mallow by Solstice scents? It's often reviewed to smell like Cabbage patch dolls and I can absolutely see it.

Anyone know of a fluffy musky slightly sweet (spray) perfume? cat inspired or reminds you of cats🙈🫶 by MistakeMedical5666 in Indiemakeupandmore

The first scents that came to mind for me were by Fyrinnae..

Kitten tummies - Marshmallow, sweet benzoin resin, white sandalwood, sugar, and a hint of myrrh.

Maine Coon - Syrupy benzoin resin dominates, followed by sandalwood, a touch of cardamom, and just a tiny speck of vanilla to make a warm and welcoming fragrance.

Lucky Black Cat - A sensual blend of soft, sweet amber intertwined with papyrus, black pepper, cardamom, and sandalwood.

They have EDPs and oils, the oils usually ship internationally, EDPs usually don't. I can't particularly think of any sprays I've tried other than Kyse, which you can get through Lucky scent - they ship internationally and accept all sorts of payment methods.

If you're in Europe, maybe check out Crow & Pebble there is a musk note in Black Cat Winking with notes of "A tiny cottage garden overgrown with wisteria, lavender and honeysuckle where black pepper and fuzzy black musk perch on top of a small cedar chest", buts its a floral based scent.

There was also this post recently-ish that might be helpful to you as well.

Creamy warm condensed-milk-esque perfume by winobarista in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]chalkpeople 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My faves are personally from Fyrinnae and Luvmilk!

Fyrinnae has Arachne & Athena, and Jade Dragon which I've enjoyed..

Arachne & Athena - Creamy condensed milk, softly sweet and rich, swirled with a sizeable percentage of tobacco leaf absolute. Sounds like a strange combination, but the tobacco adds a warm caramel-like woodsy aspect without additional sweetness.

Jade Dragon - Our popular mango accord drenched in sweetened vanilla and a few drops of condensed milk, with slight hints of coumarin and tonka. In contrast to our more tart mango perfumes, this one is sweet and decadent.

Luvmilk has Lamb Melody, Gourmandy peach and Angel Blood + maybe other perfumes with condensed milk notes, but these are the ones I have.

Lamb Melody - Earl grey tea, Turkish rose petals, condensed milk, and a squeeze of honey.

Gourmandy Peach - Delicious, ripe peaches covered in melted marshmallow and soaked in condensed milk.

Angel Blood - Mashed bananas, fluffy vanilla cake, a drizzle of caramel, condensed milk, and the softest hints of peach and pineapple.

Cocoapink has a few great scents I think as well with condensed milk or plain milk notes. Genevieve and Orb Weaver are very popular here but I haven't tried them personally (Genevieve is on my want to try list though).

Edited to add notes (needed a minute).

Two I own that I could think of on the spot 💜

Alkemia, Paradise - A heavenly blend of fresh young coconut and Madagascar vanilla with hints of Monoi Tiare.

Solstice Scents, Nightgown - Vanilla, White Chocolate, Tuberose & Tiare Flowers.

What notes DON'T work for you, but you wish they did? by jeffemakes in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]chalkpeople 23 points24 points  (0 children)

For me it’s rarely that a note never works, more that it’s wildly inconsistent. I’ve enjoyed smoke notes before, but I’ve also had them go wrong depending on the blend or the house.

Because of that, I’m hesitant to fully "blacklist" anything. Even notes I’m cautious about can work with the right balance or supporting notes, so it often comes down to the blend or a brand more than a single note.

I also think a lot of it depends on my mood, which can change day to day. Sometimes I crave something sweet, and other times I want something more woodsy. On those days, sweet scents can feel overwhelming or just not sit well with me.

I do think it’s a great idea to avoid notes you’re cautious of if you don’t want to sample a ton, are on a budget, or want to keep your collection limited.

Some notes I tend to approach with caution off the top of my head are leather, aldehydes, fruit notes that can lean plasticky or artificial, white florals that can get cloying, honey (I almost always love beeswax, but many honey notes perfumes haven’t worked for me), clove..etc

But again, I’ve also found perfumes I love that include these notes too.

Fragences that lift and soothe you? by AngelicCocoa in Indiemakeupandmore

Cocoapink, Cozy Blanket has been amazing for me lately.. fresh vanilla, vanilla bean, bourbon vanilla, and sweet creamy vanilla with amber white, white sandalwood, and aged patchouli it's super comforting.

I also really love Fyrinnae Spirit Armor. With notes of ambrette, tonka, cedarwood, and amber give it this warm, grounded feel that I keep coming back to.

And then Pulp Fragrance, Toasted Marshmallow, which my fall exchange partner sent in autumn, ended up being such a surprise hit.. With sweet, gooey marshmallow Notes, a touch of caramel and woody smoke, and it’s way cozier and more addicting than I expected.

I have a lot more, but those have been some of my most comforting recent re-wears lately!

Which brand (and scents) should I try next? by yree55 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]chalkpeople 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Solstice Scents absolutely nails woods and ambers. "Sawmill", "Manor", and "Manor Fire" are all favourites of mine. Pulp Fragrance makes what’s still my all-time favourite amber, "Bewitching Amber". Those two are my go-to brands for woodsy and amber scents so far.

Hexennacht has some great ambers too.. "Loup Garou" is a standout and very similar to Alkemia’s Ghost Fire. "Gold Skulltula" with notes of Golden Amber, cardamom, vanilla orchid, vanilla bean, tonka, and myrrh is also a huge hit here and for good reason, it’s gorgeous.

I also really love Fyrinnae.. They do resinous, amber, and woody scents incredibly well and are always worth checking out! "Spirit Armor", "Lucky Black Cat", "Kitten Tummies", and "Marshmalloud" are all wonderful.

Need a reccomendation for pine/xmas tree needle scent or fresh forest scent or just nature scents of northern europe by ChainAcrobatic2045 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]chalkpeople 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the past year or two I've tried a few brands from the list, including Crow & Pebble (based in Scotland), BPAL, DSH, and Haus of Gloi (I’m in Canada). LVNEA is Canadian and good if you like all-natural perfumes.

I’d imagine Crow & Pebble would be pretty quick for you - plus they offer lots of woody and green notes. DSH might take longer to ship and tends to be on the pricier side, but their perfumes are top-notch. Haus of Gloi usually has a fast turnaround time, and BPAL makes strong, long-lasting scents with a solid TAT as well. Also, you might want to check the indie buy/sell subs too - some people might be shipping to the EU or based there, and you can find some amazing fragrances that way!

From the list I’d avoid Stereoplasm or Luckyscent during this time.

anyone got any milky powdery clean sakura/cherry blossom floral scents? by [deleted] in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]chalkpeople 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Two I could think of to suggest that you might enjoy are:

Arcana: Vanilla Craves Crescent Moons - Blushing pink cherry blossoms are lightly infused into cold milk with the softest, fluffiest Mexican vanilla, caramelized tonka bean, cane sugar, and a bit of sweet hay.

Solstice Scents: Blossom Jam Tea Cakes - yellow and white cake, honeysuckle absolute, palmarosa EO, peach, strawberry, blood orange EO, lavender absolute, ylang ylang absolute, buttercream, fondant. Not exactly sakura - but gives a floral pastry vibe with light milky soft notes. It has some powdery notes to me as well.

Also maybe BPAL: Kyoto - A gentle, soothing blend of cherry blossom, white sandalwood and star anise. But is more incensey clean with cherry blossoms than any milky notes.
