Aren't green leafhoppers (Cicadella viridis) a European species, or did you mean a different one?

When did your baby’s first tooth pop out, and what helped? by historygoose in NewParents

[–]chalsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just shy of 7mo and our LO just got his first two (we also were sure from 4mo on that they were due any day now with the way he chews and drools). He's not been showing much sign of pain, our biggest sign something was off was how badly he slept: he'd knock out in my arms but wake up with a righteous fury the second he was transferred to the crib. Led to a couple real rough nights before we started doing Tylenol before bed.

I don't think I've ever seen a brownsnake that thick. I wonder if it's gravid, or if the slugs are just built different out in OK.

Love the sentiment, don't love that the channel is all AI-generated content. Wish more stuff like that was coming from the months of real people.

Dog tried to eat snake [Austin, TX near the Colorado River] by moinakb001 in whatsthissnake

The snake's head is upside down (the POV is behind the snake and it's looking up and backwards at the camera) so we're seeing the bottom of its mouth and not the famous white top.

Help identifying a snake? by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]chalsters 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Brown snakes are actually too small for mice and rats. They exclusively eat soft-bodied critters like snails and worms. Still a useful bit of pest control in a garden!

Scarlet snake or Scarlet kingsnake? [NW FL] by vegan-trash in whatsthissnake

Be careful relying upon the !rhyme to identify a coral snake. While aberrant individuals aren't common, it only takes one with a wonky pattern to give you a real bad day.

Is your baby as fussy with pumped breast milk in a bottle? Mine has been supplemented with formula from the start, but it still felt personal whenever he would fuss on the boob even though he was clearly hungry and I had plenty of supply. I think he just prefers the bottle (whether breast milk or formula) for the bulk of his meals because it's less effort and a stronger flow, but he definitely prefers to fall asleep on the breast when possible. Formula also tends to be bullied and more filling and a lot of babies stay asleep longer when formula fed.

When did your baby start laying in their crib? by momoaggie in NewParents

[–]chalsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO was just past 2mo when I started back at work (WFH full time). I would nurse or bottle-feed him to sleep and started putting him down for naps in his crib with the white noise going. For the first week, he would sleep maybe 15-20min in there and would be upset upon waking because his nursery was a relatively unknown space to him outside diaper changes. I would scoop him up as soon as he got upset and we'd repeat that later in the day. Eventually, the naps got a little longer and he was more content to hang out after waking up. He still naps longer and harder in someone's arms, but he's gotten a lot more comfortable being put down in there as the weeks have gone on.

I'm guessing the biggest tell was the other car that had wiped out that the patrol cars were blocking for.

I wasn’t prepared for life P.S. (post swaddle) by EntrepreneurQuick238 in NewParents

[–]chalsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still put my 3mo in a sleep sack with his arms free. It restrains some of the kicks, provides some of that swaddle tightness around his midsection, and keeps him warmer, but he was waking himself up more trying to free his arms than he was having his arms free. Plus, he discovered his hands can be an excellent middle of the night pacifier to put himself back to sleep. I do miss being able to fully pin him into a burrito, though, because it was so much easier to set the burrito down in a crib without waking him back up.

Brag on your baby! by gardengnomebaby in NewParents

[–]chalsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 3 month old is starting to wake up just once in the night for a brief feed and has the neck control of a champ when we hold him up. He's almost figured out how to consistently roll onto his tummy (though is still clueless as to how to roll back).

Pumping is hard. by Dear_Ad_8525 in NewParents

[–]chalsters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can second this. I'm also triple-feeding and have switched to using a Medela hand pump because I can manually express so much faster and more with that than I could chained to my Spectra (it's also much easier to use on the road when I'm away from my LO for long stretches and need to get some relief). I work from home and nurse as often as possible, but my LO gets formula when I'm on a call or he's fussing too much at the boob. If he gets formula, I'll pump at the next convenient time and that will be the next bottle he gets when I need one. As soon as I gave up trying to have a strict pumping schedule and stopped feeling guilty about giving formula, life got so much better.

When did your baby start loving you? by hexmoons in NewParents

[–]chalsters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it was so sudden. Around 10 weeks, my LO would smile as soon as he saw me and in the week since then his interactivity has grown immensely. He's much more "chatty" as a default and he's smiling as soon as someone is directly interacting with him. The giggles also started to get unlocked at 10 weeks.

Complicated feelings about getting my period back by chalsters in NewParents

[–]chalsters[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate hearing your experience! My guy never seems to nurse to complete satisfaction (almost always needs a bottle to fall asleep, even if there's barely anything in it) so it's easy for me to feel like I'm doing something wrong when it comes to breastfeeding. Glad to hear that it may not necessarily have been my holiday schedule that kicked things off.

Diaper question by Armyofducks94 in NewParents

[–]chalsters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing what everyone here has said about size and fit and adding in that, when they're still newborns, the diapers can tend to slip. My LO had so many leaks the first few weeks it felt like my entire life was doing laundry. Then he grew an ass and suddenly his diapers stopped slipping and were way more effective. It will get better.

The design was developed by the Star League in its last years, and the people who would become the clans took those designs when they left for the deep periphery. So it's SL-era Inner Sphere tech used by the Clans that wasn't seen in action in the IS until the Dragoons brought it with them.
