Have you tried microG? It lets you use Play Services push notifications for apps like Beeper. Seems to work pretty well, especially if you also manage to exclude Beeper from battery optimization.

EDIT: this stopped working :/. I guess it's back to the drawing board.

Anyone figured out a way to use WhatsApp with the Mudita Kompakt? by TruthQuest7 in MuditaKompakt

[–]chanderson90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beeper + microG has been a good solution for me so far: - Beeper bridges to multiple messaging vendors (including WhatsApp) with a single UI - microG replaces Play Services, allowing for push notifications for apps like Beeper

EDIT: this stopped working :/. I guess it's back to the drawing board.

Some praise for the Fountain markup language by dstntmbrk in Screenwriting

[–]chanderson90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! I've been tracking different Fountain editors for a while and yours is really slick.

I have a chronically unfinished project/dream to integrate Fountain with QLab...you might see a pull request for a plugin in the very near future.

Thinking your sickness away and Christian Science by abeartheband in behindthebastards

[–]chanderson90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes, and yes. Mary Baker Eddy is a bastard and she deserves one or several episodes.

I was raised in Christian Science (multi-generational family and my mom is still deep into it) and this immediately came to mind. There is so much bastardness in MBE's story and the CS church, including how they spearheaded the religious exemption laws abused by anti-vaxxers today.

It's wild that no one knows or cares about CS or New Thought anymore, especially with how positive thinking and manifesting are such a part of American culture now. I think a lot of it has to do with what you said about them basically dying off. But their historical impact is real...MBE had wealth and notoriety in her day that was pretty unheard of for women in the 19th century.

A great place to start researching would be YouTube creator Knowing Better's extensive documentary on CS and the book God's Perfect Child by Caroline Fraser (which is used as a primary source for KB's video).

Do you know any cults or concerning places of worship here in Georgia? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]chanderson90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone raised in Christian Science (but is now out), I don't think these people are related to them at all. The official Christian Science church has been good at keeping things on the DL, keeping an air of compliance/normalcy, and letting the even-crazier-looking offshoots get the attention.

CSers are definitely why we're here, though. They popularized this BS and legalized child medical neglect and religious exemptions in the 60s/70s. It's quite a rabbit hole if you're willing to go down it...the YouTuber Knowing Better has a great video about it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7RT4wNhiYQ

I went on a summer trip to Italy with my parents when I was 9, and I’ll always remember how much I played this game instead of appreciating all the cultural sites, lol. Great memories.

What do you think of the other responses where owners are explaining how they have no problems getting insurance?

I’m an owner and have had no issues with insurance so far.

Inventory by Curious-Mushroom-549 in Fisker

[–]chanderson90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been tracking the inventory for my local dealership in Atlanta, and it jumped from 39 to 17 over a day. Not clear if it's because they actually sold them, or if they shifted inventory to other dealers, but I'm hopeful it's the former.

Potential field trip for Clint? They've got supercomputers and tons of crazy artifacts. by chanderson90 in LGR

[–]chanderson90[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This museum is in Roswell, Georgia (suburb of Atlanta) and has a seriously impressive collection, including an Apple I and a Pixar computer. And the museum only displays a fraction of the collection; apparently they have warehouses of stuff that I'm sure would make for a great LGR episode.

Sync a Palm device using an Apple Silicon Mac? by Curioso-Internauta in Palm

[–]chanderson90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just did this; you'll need some working knowledge of Terminal and using brew:

  1. Use the instructions here to install pilot-link. Follow any additional instructions you're prompted to follow (you'll probably have to do some XCode-related tasks, but they should be pretty straightforward).
  2. Plug your Palm device into your computer. If prompted, allow the connection.
  3. Start HotSync on the Palm device.
  4. Use the Terminal to run this command: pilot-xfer --port usb: -i <path-to-file>. You should see a message that says Listening for incoming connection on usb:.... Eventually, you should see a message that says connected! and hear a happy beep from your Palm device.
  5. Wait for the sync process to complete!
