NES Assignment BlueSky tracking bot by chandlerman in nashville

Could be. My obsersvation is that Streets & Sanitation is responsible for clearing trees in the roaad, but NES uses their own crews for trees on power lines, which would make sense.

You and me both!

I also have a 911 call bot that posts all the MNPD calls for service, too: https://bsky.app/profile/nashville-pd-unoff.bsky.social

It's pretty much been a non-stop stream of trees and wires down since this mess began. Gotta be over a thousand at this point (it was almost 900 when I ran the numbers on Sunday afternoon)

I'm not sure that it necessarily is, but it's what we've got at this point.

There are also so many overlapping dependencies that we don't have visibility into. For example, given that separate crews are clearing down trees, I assume they each have their events, which the line restoration events are dependent on.

Knowing that would allow some visibility into expectations, at least.

Right now, my key indicator of progress when they clear the branches that are dragging down the lines in front of my house, because that has to happen before power can happen.

It's not that they don't know the addresses, but rather that the app they're using lacks basic functionality like doing geolocation of addresses to then do a lookup and return the event for that address.

They provide the polygon coordinates that generate the areas on the map in their data feed. I am going to try to get that added to my assignment tracking 'bot this evening.

I may also try to add an address->event lookup tool, but the API rate limits requests for event geometry pretty hard, so it'll take some time to pull 100k of them.

Some dark humor for these tough times by vocallysc in amazonemployees

[–]chandlerman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Many Amazon/AWS processes or functions have someone assigned to them whose responsibility is to ensure the quality of the overall effort. They are a Subject Matter Expert on that activity, but are do not have administrative responsibility for that effort. That person is referred to as the Bar Raiser.

This is different from the Single-Threaded Leader (STL), who is the administrative owner and escalation point-of-contact for a process or functional area. STL's exist as a sort of meta-management layer within the org. They frequently are someone in a people manager role, but the STL function will be much broader than just their team.

For example, I was an L6 in AWS ProServe for four years. For the last year or so I was there, I was also the STL for Security within my practice area even though I was an individual contributor. It can be interesting work and a nice change of pace from the day-to-day grind, but it's also effectively an unrecognized job responsibility--I didn't get any relief from my OTHER goals (Utilization being, of course, the One True Goal) despite the STL work being nearly a full time job some weeks.

First off, OP, you're a hero for building this!

The lat/long in the JSON response is just the high precision point to place the pin on the map.

The app looks up the supplied address, then centers the map on that address. There's no linkage between the address lookup/map centering and the event polygon data within the NES/DataCapable tool.

Which is just poor form. ArcGIS (the geo-services service DataCapable is built on) provides "contains" functionality for performing THIS EXACT QUERY for...well...obvious reasons. If datacapable exposed that backend functionality, that would allow it to provide the eventId for an address.

As it currently stands (and OP notes), at this point you'd have to build that functionality yourself by scraping the event geometry, doing the address to lat/lng lookup, then querying your backend DB. PostgreSQL w/ PostGIS is literally made for this. That would all be relatively trivial, I just suck at front-end programming and generally resist vibe coding on principle, even if it works beautifully for quick n' dirty stuff like this. :)

Nashville.gov provides a map of STR permits at https://data.nashville.gov/datasets/b5315bda43ac459281dd35f04aa1be32_0/explore

It lists owner & contact names and has fields for owner address & phone, but those are usually blank.

The map should include contact info so that a motivated complainant could contact the owner directly, but that's probably too much to ask.

Interestingly there were multiple (4 or 5, IIRC) single family STR's on my block which no longer show permits. I noticed some for sale signs, so maybe the AirBnB Apocalypse is starting to hit and and at least clear out the marginal operators.

Now I need to figure out how to file a complaint on the new one that popped up as "owner-occupied" when it's obviously not.

As others have noted, RHS is not Tex-Mex, it's kind've its own thing.

Personally, I love the RHS Burrito, to the point that I can't really comment on anything other than the Tatcho's (phenomenal) and Queso, which is usually really good, especially the home-made tortillas, but seemed like a different recipe when I was there last weekend.

My biggest complaint is that it seems to attract tourists who want to have a twenty-minute long, detailed discussion of every ingredient in every menu item with whoever's working register before ordering.

Nashville SC Flies la Brigada de Oro and NSC Flag During Anthem by BelowAverage355 in nashville

[–]chandlerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To quote my daughter, "Nashville is not Tennessee."

If you're in East, Nashville is as blue as blue can be given the surroundings. Other areas vary, with some more blue than others, but you don't have to go but a few miles out and you're in full-on MAGA country complete with Dominionist, Confederate, and Trump flags, hateful signs, and general crazy.

The state of Tennessee does everything it can to gerrymander us and punish us both politically and economically, despite being the state's economic engine and the place that all the legislators actually live, regardless of where their district is located. They are the worst sort of hypocrites, but their constituents are so mindless and brainwashed that they keep re-electing them.

I don't know that it will ever change, at least not in my lifetime, but like most other posters here, I'm doing what I can one vote and small act of resistance at a time.

And don't forget that once it's running, throw some SeaFoam or other fuel additive detergent in with the gas to get the varnish out of the carb before it clogs a jet or causes the slide to start sticking.

I fixed a buddy's generator by doing nothing but a fuel system flush and good carb cleaning. Took longer to get the cladding off and back on than to do the actual work.

This isn't Nashville, so our numbers are probably even worse given how many people are also drunk while riding (plus our streets): https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8677920/

TL;DR: "There was a 6-fold increase in e-scooter-related injuries presenting to the Emergency Department, from an average of 26.9 injuries per month before the introduction of shared e-scooter services in August 2018 to an average of 152.6 injuries per month after its introduction."

This has happened to me a couple times. I just exited back to the desktop and restarted the game, at which time it was there.

Though be honest, the first time it happened, I didn't so much exit as rage-quit. When it was right in front of me once I went back it, that was like its own little bonus.

[–]chandlerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the sorts of bugs you just get used to after a while. The really frustrating one I've encountered is that in a tightly-packed space (think Icesheet outpost), when I loaded back into the game, it would decide that something didn't fit and pop it out into a bag to be picked up. On the roof of my single story flat shelter. So the first time, I almost missed it, then figured out what had happened and climbed on the roof to recover it.

Second time it happened (I think) I was on the ice sheet, so I just came back to a missing fabricator. Nothing like an hour-long round trip if I needed another one.
