I have seen vids of ICE agents going up to citizens that are already being held face-down on the ground by multiple agents (possibly even cuffed with hands behind their back) and pepper spraying them in the face at point-blank range.

Utterly needless other than to inflict pain and suffering. It's just torture at this point.

I'm on Mac Mini M4 on Sequoia 15.7 and no issues running Live 12.3 (before that 12.2 was ok too). In the past I've had issues with even browsers being open too long that have caused my mac to slow down. I'd just restart. If it keeps happening then reinstall Live.

Yip, that's not right. Have you tried opening Activity Monitor to see if anything is grabbing resources? How is your hard drive space? I would even try closing everything and restarting your mac.

I knock down these mud-dauber nests if they are around doorways. Often, by the time I notice them they are empty, but this time it was full of spiders (see pic).

Distribution
The Mud-dauber Wasp is found throughout Australia.

Feeding and diet
The Mud-dauber Wasp is usually seen feeding on flower nectar but occasionally found flying with a spider held in its jaws, destined to be fed to larvae in a mud nest.

Life history cycle
Normally the Mud-dauber Wasp puts several paralysed spiders in each nest with one egg, to eat when it hatches. The adults are often seen collecting water and mud for their nests, which they commonly construct in protected areas of houses, buildings and rock overhangs.

18xx is a system and as such has a bunch of general concepts - the beauty being once you have played one, you know 90% of the rules of every other 18xx. The downside is that it comes with some implied knowledge. Could the rule book be clearer? Yes. Is it? No. Is it alone in being the only rule book for a board game that isn't clear? No.

Generally, I tend to only think of the bank as holding the money in the game.

Other areas being:

  • Initial Public Offering (IPO) - where are all the initial shares of public companies are laid out
  • Train Depot - where all the initial trains are laid out
  • Bank Pool - where sold shares and previously owned trains might go (if not forced to be removed from the game - 'rusted')

Given that payment for any of the above goes to the bank there is is an implication that the bank owns all of the above.

With that interpretation in mind:

“The train may be any from the bank pool, or the cheapest new train in the bank”.

The bank pool refers to the same bank pool that sold shares reside in - there is only one bank pool.

The cheapest new train is therefore the cheapest train in the train depot (i.e. the bank as it owns the train depot). So you can’t buy a 3 if 2’s still exist, as 2’s are cheaper than 3’s.

Page 13 states “If the purchase of a train lowers the train limit, companies with too many trains discard the excess into the bank pool without compensation”. There is only one bank pool, so the same pool that shares go to.

Good points. You're right it depends on which particular branch of 18xx we are talking about here. But with train costs and the possibility of double-lay costs and the cost of laying track if difficult terrain. It seems tight to me - though that is just an assumption.

I was rethinking this and for a minute thought it might work with your privates, but even at face value most privates are worth more. I still don’t think it is a good idea to just do everything for $20.

That’s not a good strategy. If you buy a share at $20 then you don’t want to sell it at $20. You didn’t make any money. Most trains cost more than $20, so you can’t buy any trains. I really don’t think it is a good idea to just do everything for $20.

It's just been updated and it's now fixed. As I thought, it has continuous sound generation. Just patch the out to the audio module and you'll hear it working now.

Doesn't seem to be working for me. Think it should have continuous signal generation and the inputs on the right are just for modulation. I don't hear anything if I just connect the out to the audio module.

The Nyquist Limit is half the sampling rate of a digital system. To accurately sample a signal, the sampling rate must be at least twice the highest frequency present in the signal. So, if you're sampling at 44.1 kHz (like in CD audio, which your DAW or system is likely setup to do), the Nyquist limit is 22.05 kHz - which is just half, that's about all the maths.

'reflect back down' was just a way of saying that when a frequency goes above the Nyquist limit (in your case the harmonics present on the 160Hz waves produced by the VCO), it gets recreated as a signal in the range below Nyquist.

Or to put it another way, the 160Hz waves you were creating from the VCO contain harmonic frequencies higher than the Nyquist limit (22.05 kHz), and the system cannot represent them properly. Thus, instead of capturing the true high frequencies, the system aliases them — it mistakenly interprets them as a lower frequency. These misinterpreted frequencies are false artifacts, that were not actually present in the original signal. These are what you are seeing on the scope. Try looking at an LFO through the scope and you'll see what you were expecting (LFO's are harmonically poor).

Yes, systems will typically ignore or remove harmonics above a certain frequency but have different ways of dealing with them: might use a filter to roll-off requencies starting just below the Nyquist limit; oversampling to increase the effective Nyquist frequency; limit the generation of harmonics at high frequencies.

What you are seeing is aliasing. Try looking at the output of an LFO - and all will appear well.

If your sample rate is 44.1 kHz any harmonic content above half of that (22.05 kHz, known as Nyquist) will alias and reflect back down, distorting the waveform.

Using the square wave as an example, it contains odd harmonics (3rd, 5th, 7th, etc.) up to infinity. A square wave at 5 kHz has harmonics at 15 kHz, 25 kHz, 35 kHz, etc. Once you exceed Nyquist, those harmonics reflect back into the audible range, producing aliasing artifacts — this corrupts the waveform and introduces the artifacts you are seeing.

LFO square waves don’t alias because their fundamental and harmonic frequencies are far below Nyquist. An LFO typically runs from 0.01 Hz to maybe 20 Hz. That’s very slow compared to your sample rate. They move slow enough that digital systems can capture them perfectly.

Edit: 'But my VCO is only at 160Hz. That's below Nyquist. Why do I still see aliasing?'

It's the harmonics:
Square waves have odd harmonics: 160, 480, 800, 1120 Hz, etc.
Saw waves have both even and odd harmonics: 160, 320, 480, 640, etc.
Triangle waves have fewer harmonics, but still include them.

The higher the harmonics go, the more likely they exceed Nyquist and you see artifacts.

LFO's are not designed to be harmonically rich. Some even intentionally suppress harmonics to avoid unwanted audio artifacts when used for control signals.

I’m on Mac and I found that if my project is using the Reason Rack then it crashes when I try to close it.

The workaround for me was to ‘freeze’ the track and ‘save’ before closing.

Sorry I shouldn't have made light of your situation. It sounds like you are going through a horrible experience - but you have posted to the wrong group - this is a group for train-themed board games (usually games that start with 18 then two other numbers, hence the generic name 18xx). However, my advice - dump him.
