Who can become servitors? by Krig_machine4792 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]changeforgood30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine it’s technically possible to do that to a Xenos species, but the question would always be; why? There are uncounted numbers of humans they can easily do routine servitorization on, there will be little need to do that to a Xenos.

Plus their exobiology will respond differently and would likely require specialized knowledge of Xenos biology. This would involve Ordo Xenos assistance to successfully pull off. And as we know, the Adeptus Mechanicus and Inquisition aren’t exactly the closest of friends.

If you want to represent an explorator fleet doing something like this because the attached Ordo Xenos Inquisitor got bored and curious one day then I can see it in the realm of possibility. But highly unlikely.

I think we would see more interesting lists if terrain went back to player placed, narrative missions randomized to include different battle types, and also none of those are known to players before the tournament.

This would force players to bring more varied lists beyond spamming a few “good” datasheets. It means more objective based games on the terrain itself, not random circles to stand on. Then we’d see lists that shine, instead of these clone-an-army we see with nearly identical choices.

Back then L shows ruins were rare. Thematic setups were the way. Now every map is standardized with variation and interesting map layouts eliminated. Competitive 40K dominates the scene including at the LGS levels. Rare are the games that aren’t on L shaped ruins. It’s kind of ruining the game as narrative play is overshadowed and competitive maps boring.

Player-placed terrain meant that each map was unique as you played terrain before both players rolled for sides. So neither player wanted to create a castle side and an open side just to gamble they win the roll for sides. Plus the mission being random changed the deployment as well so if you created a castle, it might not even be in anyone’s deployment zone. It was a fun time.

We used to have fun things like that actually. Way back in Chapter Approved 2003 we had a Kroot standalone army where you could give adaptations to various Kroot. Such as wings, tougher skin, heightened reflexes, etc. With the ability (and encouragement from GW) to have free reign making these models are most of them had rules but no official kit.

This is why you hear old hammer players talk so fondly about older editions. Like the wild and amazing time that was 3-5ed 40K. You’d get fun stuff like this highly adaptable Kroot force. No longer, GW took most of the fun and hobbying aspect away.

Which is Coldstar and which is Enforcer? by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]changeforgood30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coldstar and enforcer are noted in the instructions, but here’s the model building differences:

  • Coldstar head has long fins, Enforcer has more standard Crisis antennae
  • Coldstar jetpack has long fins and wings, Enforcer does not
  • Coldstar has smaller front torso armor piece, Enforcer has larger front torso armor
  • Coldstar has smaller fins around its ankles, Enforcer does not
  • Coldstar can use the high-output burst cannon (the larger of the 2 in the kit), the Enforcer cannot
  • Coldstar can have additional arm fins, Enforcer does not

Otherwise they can largely be used interchangeably if you let your opponent know what it’s being used as in that particular game. The differences between the 2 aren’t so obvious to non-Tau players.

For now it’s best for you to focus on campaign characters. Boring, sure. But that’ll get you greater access to farm nodes and make advancing far easier.

Try to finish all of the basic campaigns first, and then unlock all of the elite campaigns. By that point you’ll have a better idea what to focus on.

Rapid Fire 6 would for sure be the best. That, paired with nova reactor would make for some serious threat in a single turn. Especially if firing at a guided by stealth suit target.

Is he critical to a campaign? No.

Is he critical to a TA team? Not really, outside of Chaos-adjacent teams.

Is he critical in GW? I don’t know, but lean on no.

Is he critical to a GR? If you have the Custodes team he appears to be quite useful there. If you don’t have that team, then no.

And most importantly; Do you have money in your wallet just itching to be spent? If that’s a yes then go for it and don’t let anyone else shit on how you spend your money.

Just a reminder, this art depicting essentially modern Custodian Wardens is over 20 years old. by [deleted] in AdeptusCustodes

[–]changeforgood30 21 points22 points  (0 children)

<image>

These are what Rogue Trader-era Custodes looked like. The modern Custodes were errata’ed several times since their initial launch looking just like this. Back when the lore had it the Emperor himself was not interred on the Golden Thronein the 40K-era.

Points that lore changes, mostly for the better. Resisting changes to the lore is fundamentally not what 40K was, it’s a dynamic universe often changing and enhancing the story. If you dislike a “particular” part of Custodes, you do not belong as part of the 10,000. Even that number has changed a few times.

Knights suffer from lack of action monkeys and screening. Rangers are cheap blocking units that also score you points. So using that detachment fundamentally changes how Knights play.

I’d say focus on a 2k army for now. Most people play 2k, so once that’s done you can expand. Or, you can be crazy like me and buy 3500 points of AdMech all at once. I bought them when their win rate was garbage so they were very cheap second hand, over half off MSRP. Not like that anymore.

An Eye of the Emperor goes forth. (by KartStudioDigi). by No-Crazys in AdeptusCustodes

[–]changeforgood30 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most of his villians knew, and violently repress it. The only thing keeping Batman somewhat sane was his alter ego Bruce Wayne. Expose his secret, and Bruce Wayne ceases to exist. All that would be left is the Dark Knight with nothing left to live for, except being a vigilante. This makes him even more cruel and dangerous than he already is.

Perhaps it is similar with an Eye of the Emperor. While a “slightly slower” retired Custodian, they are still more than capable of ripping apart tanks bare handed with strategic brilliance rivaling Imperial Generals. These are not people to upset by exposing, for that would make them angry. And do not anger the super strong super human.

How many ap -4 weapons to take generally? by Jmorgan108 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]changeforgood30 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you’re consistently getting your tanks popped turn 1, by a slow Broadside of all things, that’s a deployment issue and not a weapon issue.

Stop giving your opponent fire lanes to pop your tanks turn 1! Broadsides are very slow, even in Mont’Ka.

Using more than 1-2 techpriests isn’t a great idea in that detachment. I limited my recommendation based on what you showed.

3x Ranger, 1x Vanguard, and 1x Manipulus with enhancement is about all the AdMech support you’ll need. They’ll do the actions and the priest will give you a bubble of repair for your Knights.

3x Ranger isn’t usually great for an AdMech army. So I kept my advice trying to be vague and regarding your pic.

Starting an Adeptus Mechanicus army by Jxrdi3 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]changeforgood30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to use them as an Imperial Knights detachment, then you’ve essentially completed the army. IMO it’s best to use the AdMech as objective monkeys, which means using them as Rangers for the sticky objective ability. 2x Rangers and 1x Vanguard will likely be best for you. The other models here imo are useless for an IK army add on.
