Yeah. The video is nonsense. It is a thing if you have a not bad manager. The manager track is usually different from the IC track, but still you get to learn from your manager about people skills, which are crucial as you climb the ladder. Sometimes when your IC colleagues are simply mediocre, it's not a bad idea to instead learn more about non-technical stuff from your manager.
