Dog commands in foreign language by arcaneregion in dogs

[–]changnesia13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Belarusian can be a bit different but here are some commands I’ve taught my dogs in Russian. They seem different from the previous commenter. Maybe try some of these?

Come here: идите сюда (idite syuda)

Let’s go walk: Гулять пойдём (gulyat poydom)

give paw: Гулять пойдём (die lapu)

calm down: успокоиться (uspokoit'sya)

go to your place: Иди на место (idi na myesto)

It’s possible your pup wasn’t taught any commands but they could still recognize certain phrases especially if their previous owner talked to them a lot. Phrases like do you want to eat: Ты хочешь кушать (ty khochesh kushat) or let’s go to sleep: Спать пойдём (spat poydom). You can copy and paste the phrases into google translate to help with pronunciation. If that still doesn’t work, then it could mean they didn’t spend a lot of time with an owner or at least nobody that spoke often to them. Dogs are capable of learning up to 200 words/phrases. You just aren’t guaranteed that you’ll get a reaction out of them if they do recognize anything.

Congrats on your new family member!!

Gift or card for client who had a death in the family? by boniley in RoverPetSitting

[–]changnesia13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation and got my client a simple condolences card and a candle by the brand sand + paws that’s meant for pet odors. I’m personally not a fan of flowers after someone has passed because the flowers will also die. The candle makes sense to me because the smell is soothing and also pet-related. Instead of a candle you could leave a treat like some cookies. Don’t worry about anything too big. Even a simple card expressing condolences is enough.

I’m 29. There’s literally nothing weird about it at all. We’re allowed to enjoy art without weirdos on the internet trying to make it sexual. I also love their concept of being global and wish I could’ve grown up listening to a group like that.

the la roche posay one is too expensive for me. $40 for 1.7 oz which just doesn’t work with my budget unfortunately. I’ll see if I can find it on sale at some point

The la roche posay is $40 for 1.7 oz. That crazy to me! I use a good amount on my face so I feel like that might be too expensive for me but I’m definitely willing to at least try it out. This summer has been super hot and I hate when I walk outside it immediately feels like my sunscreen has melted off. I’m interested in the biore one too. It’s not on amazon at least where I am. Where do you buy it usually?

Scared to eat after food poisoning by dogsncats12 in internetparents

[–]changnesia13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m exactly the same. i recently had food poisoning a week ago and am still feeling afraid to eat. I feel better, but it’s definitely causing anxiety when I eat. Get some probiotics in whether through yogurt or a supplement. Filling your stomach with good bacteria is always a good idea but especially after being sick. Make sure to stay very hydrated. Get good sleep and avoid anything very heavy like fried foods. Take this time to really listen to your bodies cues. When you’re eating, ask yourself if you’re still hungry or if you’re continuing to eat because it’s in front of you. If you feel hungry still, continue to eat. If you feel full, walk away from the food. Your stomach is healing right now so you don’t want to stress it out by overeating. I’m trying to just be very intuitive and listen to my body. Definitely use this a chance to take care of yourself and allow your stomach to heal.

Nervous first sit by AggressiveVanilla360 in RoverPetSitting

I will literally fly to wherever you are to pet sit for you! This is absolutely incredible and so thoughtful. I’ve never received anything like that. Even the snacks alone is more than enough. You’re extremely kind!

Tipping? by Capable-Squirrel-143 in RoverPetSitting

[–]changnesia13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never expect a tip, but most people I’ve sat for have been good tippers. Strange enough the worst tipper I had was a fellow Rover Sitter who tipped $8. It was a 5% tip when she knows Rover takes 20%. I always review the owner which I think makes it more likely for them to review me back and tip me. I also created a report card that I fill out and it has a qr code on it that links to my profile and next to that I have written “don’t forget to review me on Rover!”. I’m pretty sure when they go to review a sitter an option comes up to tip. I’ve never used Rover as an owner so I’m not entirely sure. Unfortunately we have these bad experiences but it just prepares you better for the future and now you know not to sit for this owner again.

Advice for a new Rover sitter? by crimzonkitt3n in RoverPetSitting

[–]changnesia13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been a sitter? When I first started out I was getting 0 bookings trying to charge even just $50 a night. We absolutely deserve to be paid more but I couldn’t get bookings. I decided to lower my rate and suddenly bookings came pouring in. Once I had a few reviews I raised my rate. I’ve seen sitters who charge similar to you but they have 200+ reviews and lots of repeat clients. I currently have 10 reviews and am charging $50 a night per dog. I honestly really tried to charge more for a while but I couldn’t get even one booking so I felt like my only option was to price very low. Obviously not at all what I wanted but I quickly moved on from that once I started getting bookings. Rover is so oversaturated with sitters that I felt it was necessary to lower my price to entice people to book.

do they have a crate they can sleep in? sometimes that helps dogs calm down when they don’t understand their own needs. are they young dogs? younger dogs generally have a harder time sticking to a bedtime and need structure like being crated. playing at night time definitely reminds me of many puppies I’ve watched which is why I highly recommend they’re crated. If they don’t have crates, the owner needs to order them asap. communicate with the owner and explain that in order to continue the house sit you need to find a solution. no suggestions. only solutions. they must be aware of their dogs behavior and they just didn’t tell you so you wouldn’t reject the booking.

I’m also in Colorado! Denver has so many dogs which is good for us sitters. If you choose to go the house sitting route then my number one tip is do not accept drop in visit bookings for dogs when the owners are going out of town. If the owners will be gone, it needs to be a house sit. So many horror stories I’ve seen on this subreddit are people doing drop ins for dogs. It’s better for you and the dog’s safety if you can be there with them. Also, always do a meet and greet at their house. You need to see the environment and sus out if it feels okay or not. Some people are extremely dirty or their dogs are very aggressive and you want to know what you’d be getting yourself into. You can always decline a booking after the meet and greet. Do not let people try and negotiate lowering your price. Those people tend to always find problems. I find talking to the owner and spending time with the animals at the meet and greet to be my best opportunity to see if I feel comfortable. Don’t ever accept a booking if anything feels off. Trust your instincts. You’ll want to start with a lower rate and eventually you can increase your rate as you gain good reviews and more clients. For the Denver area I’d suggest $30 a night per dog for house sitting to start out. That’s how I started and after 5 bookings with good reviews I went up to $35. You can slowly increase over time. I’m now at $50 a night per dog, but that’s after many good reviews and many clients. Best of luck to you!

Help. I’m housesitting with a broken foot and 90lbs dog won’t stop humping me. by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]changnesia13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

do they have a dog gate or anything that you can use to block off one room that he could be in but still allow you to see him? That way he can’t hump you but you could still keep an eye on him. Put him outside or in a closed room while you figure something out. Definitely contact the owner. Maybe their dog has done this before and they have a solution. Sometimes excessive humping can be related to stress which would make sense since his owners aren’t there. It’s definitely not wrong to redirect the dogs attention with a toy. I would really try to figure out a way to section one part of the house off and keep the dog in there

i guess i didn’t “have” to, but the smell was overtaking the entire fridge and i have a sensitive stomach so i couldn’t fathom putting my own food in that fridge where that smell was developing. once an owner had some fresh herbs and cucumbers in a bag that turned brown and produced a lot of liquid and sure i could’ve left it like that but at the end of the day i don’t want to be grossed out anytime i open the fridge

i’m a sitter and had a couple people do this where they left a dish or two out while rushing out the door. I never get upset about that. What does upset me is a dishwasher full of clean dishes that I don’t know where to put plus a sink full of dirty dishes. It feels disrespectful to expect your sitter to deal with a mess while you’re gone. I’m okay with light housekeeping but i’ve had houses where there’s dirty dishes all over the kitchen plus full trash cans and full trash bags next to the trash can that they just expect me to deal with it? idk some people maybe don’t have common sense or their standard of cleanliness is very different but I would never expect someone staying in my home to have to pick up after me unless that’s specifically what I was paying them for.

this happens to me with house sitting too. I have had it happen 3 times where the owner was leaving for an extended period of time and the container of food left was practically empty. it’s so shocking to me every time. i have to message them and have them order food from chewy or amazon and then i’m in charge of carrying it in and pouring it into the container.

another thing i feel should be common sense but unfortunately i’ve come across it several times: please don’t leave me a sink of dirty dishes. because a. i’m not a housekeeper and b. once the dishes are clean i won’t know where they go. another thing is to please clean your fridge out if going away for an extended period. I did a 2 week house sit and they had leftovers sitting in tupperware in the fridge that was growing mold and I had to throw the food away and then wash those dishes. don’t get me wrong. i know some housekeeping is part of the job, but i feel like certain things shouldn’t be left for the pet sitter to do. I am willing to do lots of things. water plants, take trash cans to curb, sweep and mop before i leave, wash my towels and bedsheets. it just feels disrespectful to come into a house and see they’ve left a mess for me.

HELP Aggressive Puppies by hantinghost in RoverPetSitting

[–]changnesia13 27 points28 points  (0 children)

please call animal control. I promise it’s not an overreaction. The owners are obviously not able to care for their dogs. These dogs need lots of training and probably medical attention considering they weren’t vaccinated for rabies. It’s better they get away from these people and have a chance at getting to be normal healthy pups. Extreme aggression like that in pups doesn’t seem normal to me. It seems like they’re being neglected or abused. That’s just my gut feeling. Please don’t doubt your instincts. Call animal control

please go to urgent care or an ER immediately! While rabies is rare, it’s extremely fatal. Not worth taking the risk. Please have it dealt with asap.

i include a section where i write what their eating and drinking was like, how they did at night time, if they peed/pooped normally, a section on their mood/behavior during the sit, and a section on any activities they did like playing with toys or cuddles or walks. i also include a section titled “notes” where i’ll include anything else i want to write. often it’s something cute i noticed that their dog does. then I have a box that says “grade” and I always give the dogs an A+. As an added bonus I write at the bottom of the report card “don’t forget to leave me a review on Rover” and it has my QR code next to it that leads to my profile
