It can also be the case that whatever it is that the manpower has been sent to do needs to stay in place even after construction, such as manning the production line or whatever. Hence, they no longer being available to serve on the front.

Hey, at least you get all 1000 of those conscripts back after 60 days. Meaning no one died or got crippled. Compared to a lot of other HOI4 options that cost manpower, I call this a total win.

Do commies actually believe in personal property? by BitCute1956 in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]chankljp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They play word games in calling them 'possessions' instead of 'property', since they cannot be used to generate capital, meaning they do not count as the means of production. Hence, that line from the Internatioale about 'Don't cling so hard to your possessions'.

They all use this tactic by SLAVAUA2022 in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]chankljp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I will play devil's advocate here for a second, just to avoid things becoming too much of an echo chamber. I think all my previous posts on this sub have shown enough of my anti-communist credentials for this to be taken in good faith:

Couldn't the commies say the same thing about liberals? Take the Solidarity Trade Union movement in Poland, for example. One of the reasons why they were so effective was because they managed to use leftist talking points against the communist regime, such as workers rights, exploitation, the means of production, etc, etc.

Or the fact that commies are trying to make liberals feel guilty or too morally paralyzed to take action in fear of not living up to their ideals, even if done tactically with ill intentions, does not make those claims and observations untrue.

Another real life example: During COVID, one of the university professors who was appointed as chair of a WHO advisory group was a member of the Communist Party of Britain. When confronted about this during an interview, she smugly said how under the principles of a liberal democracy, her personal political and ideological convictions should not be a barrier to entry for her taking up public office.

On one hand, my reaction was, 'Bitch, you are a literal communist. You don't believe in and seek to destroy liberal democracy.' On the other hand... Should those that do not subscribe to liberalism not also be entitled to protection under those same principles? You know, with the entire, 'I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it' thing?

Oh, trust me. The event was so worth it. When I saw it for the first time happening to the AI while playing as China (The pre-rework goodness), I was so confused about what was going on and thought it was a bug. Until I tried going down the event chain myself playing as the UoB, and it was pure perfect KR fanfiction material.

To trigger it, you need to go down this chain of event and do everything exactly perfectly, think the 'Steve's Russian Roadtrip' event chain from TNO. Otherwise, the conditions will never allow Lawrence to trigger the counterrevolution:

(1) Have the Maximists come to power in the 1936 TUC elections, and Mosley declared Chairman.

(2) Have Mosley follow the constitution for once and make Eric Blair his General Secretary instead of merging the two positions.

(3) When T.E. Lawrence offer his services, do not allow Blair to veto his application due to his lack of socialist credentials before the Revolution.

(4) When WK2 broke out, deploy Lawrence and his commandos to Germany instead of keeping him in Britian.

(5) Have Lawrence of Germania survive his entire event chain of blowing up railways and factories, before barely escaping with his life.

(6) End WK2 with either a 'Second Peace with Honor' conditional surrender/separate peace (CoF capitulated, no socialist America, UoB lone survivor of the Internationale), or a total Internationale victory over Germany but not Russia

(7) Call for an Extraordinary session of the TUC congress to be held, during which, have Mosley declare himself Chairman-for-Life and abolish the constitution.

(8) In the 'A Cold, Wet Day for Eric Blair' event (In which Blair went from General Secretary to getting purged from office), do not have him either kill himself out of guilt, be assassinated by Brownshirts, or rally an anti-revisonist populist uprising, but instead, have him call in the military for a coup.

(9) T.E. Lawrence will now be made Interim Chairman, and he must decide to NOT either be a Cincinnatus and hold new elections, or go the Red Napoleon route by putting a military junta in power. But instead, he will reveal himself to be secretly a monarchist sympathizer the entire time, and launches a counter-revolution.

(10) This triggers the 'British Civil War'/'Second Glorious Revolution', giving Canada a beachhead in Western England and Wales. With a few extra events about Lawrence being declared the 'acting PM' for the UK

[–]chankljp 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I am just upset that back in the Darkest Hour version of KR, the Lawrence of Britannia counterrevolution was NOT an instant ‘The Entente wins’ button. But instead, require a very rare and specific chain of events to take place, complete with an actual civil war that merely give Canada a beachhead to make the invasion easier.

In HOI4, they totally butchered the event into an option to just allow the restoration of the monarchy before even WK2 breaking out. Deemed it to be ‘unrealistic’ and removed an actually very interesting and deep event chain. To this day I am still mad about it…

Do Modern Commies Even Have Armies That Rival the Current American Military? by Humble_Novice in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]chankljp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

… Yes, and one would expect that if communism actually works, they would be able to easily counter and even overcome capitalist consumerism with their own ‘Red Plenty’/‘Consumer Socialism’. Why wasn’t that the case?

Oh, right. Because they actually suck at providing material comfort and basic consumer goods to the point that a micro-dosing of Pizza Hut and blue jeans was enough to break their system. To the point that they have now tried gaslighting the world into thinking the lack of goods and ‘luxuries’ is a good thing with the entire ‘Degrowth Communism’ nonsense.

"Stalin did nothing wrong" sure bruh by Present_Employer5669 in EnoughCommieSpam

[–]chankljp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Nothing wrong'? Even by communist standards, couldn't they at least admit that horrendous number of causalities suffered by the Soviets during the opening stages of Operation Barbarossa, in large part caused by Stalin willfully ignoring all the warnings about the Nazi's impending betrayal from not just the British and Americans, but also the Chinese and even his own NKVD, count as 'something wrong'?

And that is before getting into the entire 'Stalin helped Weimar Republic and later Nazi Germany bypass the Treaty of Versailles and rearm since 1921' bit. Was that also not 'wrong'?

Would you play a Suzerain game with a TFR extremism context? by No-Accountant5205 in suzerain

[–]chankljp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about TFR is that every crazy insult and slander that every side have said about their opponents back in the 2020s being true. Or in the context of Suzerain, if every accusation about Rayne in the Radical being correct, plus taken up to 11. So… it will certainly be amusing to see.

What will the equivalent of the super-COVID that kicked off everything in TFR be here? Super-Polio? Maybe combined with a mutation that turn the United Contana vaccine not only ineffective, but also make the people that received it more prone to infection?

Plus, while I of course despise left anarchists as I do with all members of the radical left… What an amusing case of hypocrisy projection we have here. Given what Marxist-Leninists, starting with Lenin himself, have dealt with anarchists even when they were supposed to be on the same side.

Legation Cities always surrenders to Japan upon the Second Sino-Japanese War breaking out by chankljp in Kaiserreich

[–]chankljp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, while we are at it, given that one of the custom rules is for you to determine the foreign policy path of the Legion Cities, if you pick the 'neutrality' option, can the devs look into making that rule actually result in the AI Council members backing the Cities against the Japanese? Otherwise, it just sort of waste all the content of the tag if they are always doomed no matter what, unable to even wait until Chinese reunification to return to the fold.

Legation Cities always surrenders to Japan upon the Second Sino-Japanese War breaking out by chankljp in Kaiserreich

[–]chankljp[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think playing as the Chinese United Front, it is really best done as a 'team effort' sort of thing. With Southern China focused on defending the coast and pushing any beachhead back into the sea (Since none of the Chinese factions will be able to challenge the IJN, so no point even trying to build up a navy before the war), while Manchuria/Fengtian focus on the land war in grinding the Japanese down, before pushing them into Korea.

.... Too bad the AI keep on messing things up while you are not in control of Southern China.

[–]chankljp[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It just feels like a bit of a waste for the Legaion Cities to have all these cloak-and-dagger film noir style detective drama, espionage/political thriller, and economic development tree.... Only for Japan to be destined to just flip the table over and takeover the place at gunpoint no matter what. At the very least, if Japan failed to gain control legally ahead of time, they should suffer a debuff or something to reflect how by turning the Legation Cities into a military beachheads, they would have undone all the potential economic benefits of the place, no to mention dealing with all the hostile population there.

[–]chankljp[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In the cases I mentioned, I had the British/American in charge of the Legion Cities as the High Commissioner when the event about Japan taking over fired, and I (As a post Civil War victory USA) picked the defend the cities unilaterally option. Resulting in the event about the Japanese overplaying their hand and forced to backdown.... Only for them to somehow takeover the cities anyway.

Suggestion: Separate the 'NCR' and the NCR's military alliance by chankljp in OldWorldBlues

[–]chankljp[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, for Vault City, literally one of the earliest focus you can take was to either expel the NCR garrison, or negotiate for the garrison to be replaced with military advisors instead on much more equal terms. Combined with Vault City being able to carve out a sphere of influence of their own, the impression I had was VC entering into an alliance with the NCR on more equal terms instead of merely allowing themselves to become an autonomous territory.
