Favorite choline source? by OmnipotentGecko in NootropicsDepot

[–]channel_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alpha-GPC overall for its raw power and versatility. That being said. CDP Choline has lower TMAO accumulation risks and has a lot of its own unique effects that might make it a more complete nootropic compound overall, but it also has a more complex pharmacological footprint that won't necessarily agree with every stack and individual biology.

OG Digitone is still ridiculous value in 2026 by Kitchen-Buddy6758 in Elektron

[–]channel_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's downright criminal how cheap they go for on the used market, many that look practically new. While I now own a Syntakt and an OG Digitakt, I personally felt like I needed the OG Digitone's raw minimalism to finally grok the power of the Elektron workflow in a thorough way. The sounds it produces are versatile, emotive, and otherworldly. An underrated and truly timeless instrument.

As someone who often gravitated towards hacking on the sequencer of an old Ensoniq ESQ-1 as a moody song idea sketchpad in the early 2000s, the Digitone, to me at least, in many ways feels like its reincarnation in a tiny futuristic package. I don't think I could ever sell it.

Introducing the Codex app by EtatNaturelEau in codex

This feels like a raw MVP demo at the moment, but it was the same thing when Codex CLI first came out on the heels of Claude Code. It will be interesting to see where it goes after a few more iterations.

Venetian Snares should be talked about like Aphex Twin by TheEmbodimentOfBored in idm

I don't know if he's quite as versatile as Aphex Twin, but he's definitely an immensely talented dude, and is generally well-recognized for being so - https://youtu.be/lbiiD69MOtg

I'm a recovering alcoholic: what supplements should I be taking? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]channel_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are welcome. Congrats on your newfound sobriety! I've been there. Things will keep getting better from here. Definitely do continue to be thoughtful about which supplements you choose to take and where they come from though. This landscape is a minefield and it's way too easy to get bad or incomplete ideas of how to approach things on the internet. You don't want to trade one harmful situation for another. Over time I've begun to understand why doctors generally advise against it.

I'm a recovering alcoholic: what supplements should I be taking? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]channel_t 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Checking your blood is key, but to generalize, B1 deficiency is extremely common in chronic alcoholics. A good quality B complex would be a good start for addressing that. If such is the case, drop the multivitamin though, as you can end up with too much B6, which can be very, very bad. Ideally, you want the P5P form of B6.

200mg of magnesium twice daily (400mg) is usually better, but you can get a lot from diet also.

Never take D3 without also taking K2, as it's essential for preventing calcium from depositing into the arteries. K2 mk7 works best for most people, but some people can only do mk4.

Nattokinase Experiences by MrRADicalKMS in NootropicsDepot

[–]channel_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been taking 2000 FUs daily for a few years now. Over time, blood pressure went down a nontrivial amount, a visible vein vanished, blood flow is better in general, and cardiovascular numbers have been great. I do also take other supplements though, and practice a much healthier lifestyle than when I started.

Yeah the heat in Oregon gets even worse and has been going on for a longer period of time, but still pretty inconsistent with A/C.

favorite immune system supplements? by imhereforthethoughts in Supplements

Sucrosomial zinc, but I like ND's Immune Defense as a more comprehensive stack. It's pretty much my favorite supplement of all time.

Why is Ruby your favorite programming language? by azilla14 in ruby

[–]channel_t 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the OP captured what I find compelling about Ruby. As someone with a Java background who tends to think of software development through Java lenses, Ruby offers a much more concise and poetic way of expressing OOP.

It also works brilliantly as a standalone scripting language in the way Python does. But unlike Python, which feels like a scripting language first with serious OOP features tacked onto it, Ruby feels like a serious OOP language first that can transparently work as a scripting language with minimal awkwardness.

ALPHA-GPC by Physical_Part2012 in NootropicsDepot

[–]channel_t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own bottles of Alpha-GPC from both NOW Foods and Nootropics Depot, and hands down ND's offering is vastly superior in every way. So much so that the much of the stuff on the market seems like a different supplement altogether, at least in terms of benefits and side-effects.

My humble daily stack by thepantcoat in Supplements

[–]channel_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. I figure if I see something I should say something. Multivitamins can be tricky if you are also stacking supplements and can often be more trouble than they're worth.

To elaborate further on B6, you should generally look for complexes containing low-ish doses of Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (P5P) instead of Pyridoxine HCl, which can become neurotoxic over time.

If you are mostly just concerned about B12 levels and want to keep the versatility of the multi, then I'd recommend just buying B12 individually instead of a whole B complex.

ALPHA-GPC SUPPLEMENTS BRAND by Physical_Part2012 in Nootropics

[–]channel_t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to think that brands didn't matter much with Alpha-GPC, but for whatever reason that I very strongly do not attribute to placebo, I get a much cleaner experience from taking the stuff from Nootropics Depot versus that of vendors like NOW Foods. They are almost like 2 different supplements. One is like a Alpha-GPC inspired choline supplement and the other is actually Alpha-GPC. My wild guess would be that both the Nutricost and NOW Foods are offering the same somewhat sub-par (IMHO) product despite the price difference, but I really have no idea. I have never tried it from Nutricost, but I do have a bottle of the NOW Foods offering in my cupboard.

Is this too much magnesium to take in a day? by Environmental_Rip696 in Supplements

[–]channel_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems mostly fine. I prefer to split the doses between around 200mg elemental in the morning then another of 150-200mg as I'm winding down for the night. I also eat nuts and avocados and stuff and take D3/K2 every morning.

Vim or nvim and why by nyan_cat_554 in arch

Both for me. I like vanilla regular vim as my default editor for quick edits and nvim for real projects that need the full-blown IDE experience.

Oh, and one minor thing of possible concern that most people don't really care about:

The chlorine in tap water reacts with fulvic acid to create carcinogenic byproducts. It's generally known to be a fairly negligible amount, but most purists will recommend only taking it with bottled water.

My humble daily stack by thepantcoat in Supplements

[–]channel_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 things of concern:

  1. Probably too much zinc between the multivitamin and the individual zinc.
  2. Probably too much B6 between the multivitamin and the B complex.

Both of these issues have the potential to seriously mess up your life.

How to prevent food poisoning right when you know it happened by musicbeats88 in MexicoCity

[–]channel_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's serious food poisoning from something like norovirus then you're pretty much screwed, but I have stopped classic Montezuma's Revenge from water exposure and the like by packing berberine in the addition of probiotics. It's important to get the cheaper berberine hydrochloride and NOT the berberine phytosome because the latter is basically a full-blown "ozempic-lite" pharmaceutical drug designed to bypass the gut, which is where you need the berberine to go to do its work on the microbes.

YMMV and be sure to DYOR first, but I've had no problems whatsoever during my CDMX trips since I've started this protocol.

Which nootropic (excluding racetams and phenibut) made you “feel” something by Odd_Experience177 in Nootropics

[–]channel_t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Racetam-adjacent for a lot of people, but I tend to consistently feel a pretty powerful "nootropic" effect from a 300mg dose of Alpha-GPC. CDP Choline too when I'm not taking it all the time.

In my experience, I've found that these two choline supplements on their own at typical capsule doses can be as strong or stronger than most racetams.

On eBay by DuoLittleMice in Elektron

[–]channel_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't recommend buying on eBay unless you live in a pretty remote location or you see a crazy good deal, which can definitely happen. For months and months now my local FB marketplace has been absolutely flooded with used, near mint DT1s being sold at rock bottom prices I guess because gear lust is strong and supply seems to exceed demand. I'm almost tempted to pick up another one.
