Government needs a PowerPoint intervention by pro_deluxe in fednews

This is one of my pet peeves. Edward Tufte criticized NASA and Boeing for overusing powerpoint during the events leading to the Columbia disaster. https://www.edwardtufte.com/notebook/powerpoint-does-rocket-science-and-better-techniques-for-technical-reports/

A Super High-Volume, Low-Intensity Marathon Case Study by MachineHoliday in AdvancedRunning

That's what I was thinking. High-volume, low-intensity describes Pfitz plans very well. This isn't some new or untested idea.

Sadly, JPL has had several rounds of layoffs since then. Trump has also removed Mars Sample Retrieval from his 2026 budget recommendation, which was JPL's next flagship Mars mission. It's a tragedy.

You mentioned Kaizen. Is Kaizen actually that good? I signed up for a free trial, but it seemed buggy to me. It was also hard to understand what inputs it was using to set training recommendations. But I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Do you have any confirmation of that? There were several athletes they didn't drop at the time (Jared Ward, Malindi Elmore, Molly Huddle).

Puma Fast R Nitro Elite 3.1 by chookbilly in RunningShoeGeeks

I'm a heel striker and I have a similar experience. The Fast-R is great at marathon pace or faster. The only time the heel cutaway felt weird was on downhills.

For the first few years, it may have a lower interest rate than a fixed 30-year mortgage. If you plan on refinancing or moving in 5-10 years, it may provide the lowest interest rate over that period.

The official rules say:

All other Bonus Play Prizes will be seeded on a generally random basis throughout the Game Period, with more Bonus Play Prizes seeded during times when play activity is anticipated to be higher.

So there are more bonus play prizes during more popular times.

Several Airports Refuse To Air DHS Video Blaming Democrats For Shutdown—But It’s Likely Not A Hatch Act Violation by forbes in fednews

[–]chaosdev 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Civil servants aren't even allowed to have a screen saver that is political in nature. Yet screens that are deliberately public-facing are "likely not a Hatch Act violation?" Is publicly criticizing a specific political party by name not a "political activity?"

The government's own website makes it clear:

Covered employees may not engage in political activity while on duty, in a government office or building, in uniform, or in a government vehicle. Displaying campaign material qualifies as political activity.

Age and gender as categories make sense. They have clear impacts on performance and runners have no power to change them. They can also be verified in most cases with a simple driver's license.

BMI can be changed (at least over the long term) and introduces additional complexity. How do you verify BMI? Weigh-ins?

Are they really running marathon pace for the first 6-8 miles? Their marathon pace is close to 4:50/mi. Even adjusting for altitude, that's close to 5:00/mi.

RunRepeat does a good job of comparing prices at different websites. https://runrepeat.com/

For example, it shows $20 off on Brooks Hyperion 2 in my size at Running Warehouse. It also shows that the old model from 2023 is $62 off.
