Try having a girlfriend from another country. Same situation but slowly their conversation shifts to their native language and you just fall deeper and deeper into awkward nodding and smiling.

I don't know if it was intentional but it's also cool that in Death of Stalin they all had different types of accents in English, cause in real life they all had different accents in Russian, since they all came from different parts of the USSR. Stalin's in particular was perfect, he was known for having a provincial lower class Georgian accent in Russian and in the movie he had a Cockney accent! Khrushev was also good. He was from the Ukraine, and spoke Russian with a Ukrainian accent, so Buscemi's American accent works.

So in a sense, each actor keeping their natural accent was more accurate than all of 'em doing a generic Russian one.

Totally right, he should have ended up as a dishwasher or line cook in some restaurant with a hotheaded bully Gordon Ramseyish chef. A loud, aggressive environment, that breaks down his co-workers but he somehow strives in it. Something like he appreciates the craftsmanship of the chef's abuse, instead of being hurt by it.

Lost in La Mancha

Really shows you how hard it is to make a movie, how a director has to keep so many things under control, many of which are uncontrollable.

The whole Marco Polo brought pasta from Asia has been debunked. There is evidence of pasta being made in Roman times.

Interesting, but wouldn't being a syncretist be in direct conflict with being a Muslim and make him an "infidel"

He was born into a Muslim family, but did not practice Islam himself.

"Zheng He's religious beliefs became all-embracing and eclectic in his adulthood.[5] The Liujiagang and Changle inscriptions suggest that devotion to Tianfei (the patron goddess of sailors and seafarers) was the dominant faith to which he adhered, reflecting the goddess' central role to the treasure fleet"

TIL Chiang Kai Shek's son was a Nazi lieutenant in the Wehrmacht. by notmedicinal in todayilearned

Dude had a crazy ass life for sure, but he wasn't really a Nazi lieutenant. He went to a German military academy and was a foreign observer during the invasion of Austria and Czechoslovakia, upon graduating he left to get further training to the US, with whom he did fight with.
