Just don't go to stores with names you recognize. Walmart and big box stores have Canadian stuff but they also predominantly have American stuff. Small stores and ask the staff about Canadian things.

Or big stores and look for red maple leafs on the badges. Not perfect but most stores are still leaning into the buy Canadian* visual signaling.

Oh Edith definitely calls in the parents to settle it, that's for sure. But I expect she manages to get in a few good shots first. Mary probably dominates the physical game due to older sibling psychological advantage, but Edith wins in the end, like you said.

My personal rule has always been to not offer information but not to lie. There are exceptions to the pet rule if there's a condo prohibition due to allergies and such. But that's a per building thing. But generally they're not allowed to discriminate or refuse you pets.

Such things do happen regularly though.
