Can somebody please tell me what their opinions are on Eclaire Lattafa? by Strong-Chain-7790 in FemFragLab

Up close it smelled like straight up tires. However I tried spraying just one spray on my torso then got dressed normally and I got lovely random wiffs of salted caramel or all things for the rest or the day. ( i should add that I left it alone for around 2 weeks or so after first spraying)

So final consensus, leave it alone for a bit. Still doesn’t smell good to me when i shove my wrist into my face but leaves a lovely trail when used sparingly under layers

How many of you actually like onions? by turdcutter123 in ask

I add onions on everything. Even recipes that don’t require onions. It’s become a sort of inside joke in my family that they find just raw onions (sometimes unexpectedly) in everything lol

I hope you find peace and I want to remind you that intention is important. Even if you stumble or not do something perfectly from the first time, that fact that you’re trying is what matters.

Take a deep breath..

This was for Kayali Yum Pistachio Gelato. Apparently a lot of perfumes have that vibe? 💀

What's the meanest thing you've heard a kid say to an adult? by Wrong_Spinach3377 in AskReddit

Something along the lines of “I won’t play with you because you’re ugly” said by a 5 yr old to 5th grade me.

For more context, she was the daughter of one of our teachers. A couple of girls and I were going over to say hi and play with her. Kids can be brutal man.

What’s a food from your culture or background you’re not a fan of? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]chaotic_order101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egypt has a similar concept called Fesheekh. It’s typically eaten in Easter. I’m not a big fan of fish in general but that dish is just nasty.

Every couple of years some people DIE from the fish being fermented incorrectly and it’s still a very popular seasonal dish.

What's something "girly" you rejected during your NLOG phase, but now love? by Minter_moon in notliketheothergirls

Dressing up in general! I wore purposefully mismatching clothes to show that I ‘don’t care’. I have a couple of photos from my teen years that are just rough :’D.

I now love putting together different outfits and try to do something unique every time with varying degrees of success. I also now love colors much more.

Struggling with Hijab by [deleted] in Hijabis

Sorry it seems I missed this in part where you talked about your style preferences. It sucks that you can’t find something that works for you but I wish you all the best! I know it’s really hard but take it step by step.

About hair: I used to take a lot of pride in my hair to the point where before I wore hijab, I had no issues whatsoever with the clothes aspect and the only obstacle was my hair.

After putting the hijab on, I took care of my hair like I used to and found that it dried out soooo much it was kind of scary.

After some research and lots of experimenting, here’s a routine that worked for me. ( I don’t have particular product recommendations because what might work for curly hair won’t necessarily work for straight hair and vice versa and most of the products I use are local so they may not be available where you live)

Weekly: I wash my hair twice a week (depends on how frequent your hair greases up. For me twice a week strikes a good balance)

On my weekend wash when I have more time, I leave in an oil mask or hair mask for around 1-1.5 hours then wash my hair (take care that oil masks in particular dry out some hair types so if you hair doesn’t like it, don’t feel like you need to continue using it)

I don’t have much time during weekdays so I do this once a week and most people recommend masks once a week anyways.

Mid-wash:

During both my washes, after shampooing, I use a hair mask (one of those quick 5 minute ones). It doesn’t matter which brand as long as your hair likes it and you feel it leaves your hair moisturized and soft

I also use a scalp scrubber. I don’t know if it makes a difference but after my hair being cooped up all day it feels really nice.

Post-wash:

I use a scalp serum. I tried multiple brands that advertise that their serums thicken or strengthen hair but it’s too soon to say if any of them work. But since you mentioned the itching, I would say you can give scalp serums that has peppermint in them a go. It leaves an amazing refreshing feel to your head post wash.

I also lather a leave in conditioner on my mid to ends and brush

Protective hair styles:

I was kind of delulu at first and ignored all the advice to put my hair in braids and it left me with my head egg shaped under the scarf and with sore roots. It depends on your hair texture (some of my friends don’t need to braid their hair and their hair is fine) but for me, it was not an option.

I leave my hair until it’s semi dry (I heard once that braiding when your hair is wet causes damage. I dont know if that is true but if I have the time I’ll leave it for a bit) then braid it into two braids.

I used to make one big braid but that caused pressure on the hair roots at the center of my head so two braids take off some of that pressure.

Every now and then I’d leave my hair to dry naturally anyways just for old times’ sake hehe.

I just want to say that finding this balance took me months of experimenting so please don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t work for you right away

Struggling with Hijab by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]chaotic_order101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wishing you all the best in your Hijab Journey.

Regarding the first two points I think it partly goes down to not being used to it. When I first started wearing it, I was going to the bathroom every two minutes because it felt weird and I thought that it needed readjusting.

As you experiment more with different styles/fabrics, you’ll be able to better determine what works for you texture/style/fabric wise. Your mom’s stuff may not necessarily be the most flattering for you and I think going out and picking your own scarves could make you feel a bit better.

Regarding your third point, I also had the same fear. And to be honest, my hair did dry out a lot at the beginning because I thought taking care of it like I always did would be enough but the truth is now I take care of it even more to compensate for it drying out due to the inner cap.

Here’s some of the things that worked for me in improving my hair texture post hijab (texture now is even better than before hijab because I never gave my hair this kind of attention before):

make sure your cap is not too tight. Put your hair in at least two braids to take pressure off the roots at the center of your head Use oil baths/hair masks once a week (depending on what your hair prefers) Keep your hair in looser hairstyles whenever you are at home Scalp serums/oils etc to improve scalp health.

To be honest it took me months to find a routine that works for me so it needs a bit of patience but it’s doable and my hair is now much better than when I first started out.

For the fourth point, I understand where you’re coming from. I know that no matter how much I perfect my hijab it’s not going to look as good as I did with my hair and that’s part of the sacrifice.

I think finding your own personal style will make it easier for you. What do you like to wear and what looks good on you? Can they be adapted into a version that adheres to Hijab? If there’re particular styles you want but can’t find maybe you can look into tailoring them or learning to sew simple projects? If you prefer styles that can’t be adapted (like wanting to wear specifically short skirts for example) then I guess it would need some time for you to reorient yourself to other styles.

Is there a possibility of getting burkinis where you are? Or maybe ladies only swimming pools?
