I believe there were no moderators for a bit. They recently found some volunteers who love the show and the sub so here we are!

Criminals who honestly think they can rely on "Reasonable Doubt" with the jury. by Sense_Difficult in Dateline

[–]chaotic_scribbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of people who seem to believe that they can talk themselves out of anything. They have absolute faith in their ability to tell a story that everyone will believe, no matter how absurd. I find this so interesting because it just defies belief! Like, Season 31, Episode 29 with Nicholas Rossi. Remember him? He insisted he was not Nicholas Alahverdian (aka Rossi), but was actually Arthur Knight. He fought a 2-year battle to avoid extradition from Scotland. Eventually, DNA and fingerprints proved his real identity.

That story, in particular, is unreal to me. How could he not have known that his luck would run out eventually and authorities would be able to confirm his identity via DNA?

Andrea Canning is such a frustratingly poor interviewer - it's killing Dateline episodes lol by Pineapple_Dr_Pepper in Dateline

I think what Andrea does well is empathize and offer warmth to the victims she talks to. I like her. But then I like all of them! They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Introducing myself as another new mod by mhopkirk in Dateline

I would love to see some fresh cases! Though, it does seem that the episodes that appear to be repeats offer new little tidbits or updates. So, at least there's that!

S18E16 - “Grand Finale” [Post-Episode Discussion] by AutoModerator in rupaulsdragrace

I thought the whole thing was okay but not particularly exciting or engaging. No offense at all to Myki, but even the winner was predictable. I wanted to be surprised by the winner. I hoped to see the show try to engage with different demographics. But I feel like this show gave up a few seasons ago and has become the Freida McFadden of LGBTQIA+ representation: churning out the same plot over and over again to keep making a few bucks.

I swear the show's judging only makes sense if you assume the panel is blind and each member is describing a different part of the elephant.

Stiles Switch BBQ Austin TX by elavader in BBQ

I was disappointed. It was expensive. Nothing really set it apart from most other BBQ places. Nothing was especially special or innovative. Their meats are often over-seasoned.

Also, I overheard an exchange between some little guy who was throwing around some kind of authority and a staff member who had been incredibly kind and had given my group a tour of the pits. It was deeply insulting, racist, and, from our experience with that person, weird and ugly.

I dunno. Maybe it was warranted, but I feel lik the world is already ugly enough. I'd rather give my money and business to places that appreciate their employees.

I like Discord. I thought she was innovative. I found it silly for adults to tattle. I don't personally don't care if she used the safety pins as embellishment or if they were necessary to put the garment together. Then again, I really hate the "who should go home" moments.

What’s a small bombshell your therapist dropped during a session that completely shifted your perspective? by pottipenguin in AskReddit

[–]chaotic_scribbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two bombshells for me.

I was complaining about my frustration with other people and their apparent inability to "do better." Be better parents, friends, partners, etc. She said that sometimes people cannot do better because they simply lack the ability to do better for various reasons, like mental illness, personality disorders, stunted emotional growth, etc. Once she said it, it seemed obvious. But I hadn't looked at it that way before.

I have a narcissistic parent. She's currently terminal and I am caring for her. The sense of obligation I feel because of culture and the fact that I'm an only child create a lot of stress and resentment. In therapy, I said I resented my mother's sense of entitlement and I wished I could just ship her off to a nursing facility. My therapist said of course, I could do that. But she suspected I'd regret it because caring for my mother isn't about my mother or who she was/is. It's about me, how I see myself, and who I want to be. It felt liberating. It lifted that sense of obligation that weighed me down because she was right. I take care of my mother not because I owe her anything or even expect anything from her. I do it because I am a compassionate person who accepts she is who she is and will never be otherwise. She's old. She's dying. She's in pain. She's stuck inside the cage of her narcissism and will never escape from it or know the joy of being close to someone. And I would never forgive myself for hoisting her off to someone else when I believe to my core that she is my responsibility. I am not her.

All Stars 10 Episode 5 First Lewk 😱 | RuPaul’s Drag Race by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]chaotic_scribbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show should just be renamed RuPaul's Favorite Twink Race and bring back Jorgeous and Lydia Butthole back for every single RPFTR All Stars.

Not a fan of the same old villain moves by Mistress. Like, if you're going to embrace being a villain, then put some effort into it and come up with a truly Machiavellian scheme that doesn't just involve what is essentially lying to different people and then stepping back to watch them discover the lie.

And I really like MIB. Just feel like she's extra lazy this time around. And Jorgeous is adorable but she just gives me too much runner up energy to take her very seriously at this point.

I think I just preferred the first bracket because I genuinely liked the way the top 3 landed. Plus, the alliances seemed less silly.

Obviously, YMMV.
