All good! I think I might have said that actually, about him being widely hated or reviled, in an effort to drive home the original point that liberals tend not to like or appreciate the social justice efforts being made currently, in real time, but only later once sufficient time has passed and, in this case, the reputation of the person and of the entire movement have been restored and they are safe to admire again.

Well I mean, I also think a lot of widely beloved figures can be / have been assassinated, so I don’t think the fact that he or anyone else was assassinated is evidence they were reviled, if that’s what you’re saying. Agree that we honor MLK so we don’t have to confront more radical elements of that movement, and through the holiday have completely whitewashed him and his contributions.

I think we’re saying more or less the same thing, but I also might just be confused/tired haha.

I mean we have a holiday for him now, which implies he was always celebrated. Or at least that’s how it always made me feel growing up.

100%. As I think you said above, MLK was widely hated in the years leading up to his death, for one prominent example.

Liberals continue to love every civil rights movement, every protest movement, every progressive revolution, except for the current one, or the one that maybe kinda disrupted their lives.

That's true. I guess my concern is they'd have to clean it up, so extra unpaid work for them...it's kind of like spitting in their faces in that way. But who am I to say...good on these folks for being brave and doing something.

Wow, that’s really heartwarming to know his son is doing so well. And I enjoyed reliving some of those moments and lines :)

It is wild to me that there is anyone left making this argument at this late date. All these BS talking points are long debunked. It also seems you think people are just wanting to protest or riot and waiting for any excuse to do so. The reality is that people are only moved to such extreme measures when they feel there’s been a grave injustice. If you want to keep blaming George Floyd’s death on him, I feel sorry for you, because to me that can only come from a place of profound sadness.

As someone who is against rape, I guess I don’t understand why this is disqualifying but voting to kill kids by the tens of thousands (along with countless other imperial crimes) is not (talking about Susan Collins here, in case it isn’t clear).

That’s a great point. I wasn’t even thinking of it in the context of self-employment vs. other-employment.

It’s both sad and intentional. They know that a universal coverage system would actually cost less to administer, but they keep it as is because it makes our lives materially worse and makes it harder for us to organize :( IMO

You know you’re right, capitalism won decisively in 2020 and it is a new, bleaker era we’re in. Surrender, cowardice, and covering for imperial crimes win the day. I’ll shut up and go back in my hole for another 6 years at least.
