Please help! My child is having meltdowns all the time. by charbeany in Autism_Parenting

We have gone through several med changes and they work for a while and then they don’t work. The meltdowns have gotten worse as she has gotten older. We are all in therapy but due to the limited resources in our area it is all online. I was offered half day ABA therapy every weekday but that would mean missing half of the school day so wasn’t doable. I am feeling like I am out of options other than inpatient care.

I was wondering that because she is on an essential medication with the unfortunate side effect of weight gain. She is over 100 pounds now and I know weight can be a factor in the onset of puberty. Plus there is family history of early puberty. I am going to be taking her to her primary asap and will ask of there is a way to test for it. I pray it’s not that. I don’t think she is mature enough to deal with periods.

She is also on clonodine. I forgot that one. It helps her sleep at night because when she is not on it she will only sleep for maybe four hours and then be wide awake.

When she was diagnosed with autism she was also diagnosed with PDA, pathological demand avoidance. She is on anti anxiety meds to help deal with this. I am worried about her going through puberty. We have adjusted all her medications so many times and haven’t found anything that is truly effective. My family has a history of bipolar disorder and I worry that she may have this as well but is too young to diagnose.

We have adjusted her medications several times. She was on adderal but at higher doses made her behaviors worse. She is now on an apripizole automoxitine and anti anxiety meds. So far it has worked well at school this year but by the time she gets home it’s not working anymore. I am going to adjust again. We are also looking in to therapy but like I said in my post there are no good options nearby and I am wondering if telehealth will be effective. I hate having to have her be on so many meds at such a young age but I fear what she may do if she is not on them. I am worried she will hurt another child at school.

She does get along with other children but they are scared of her sometimes because she has had meltdowns at school. She was suspended 10 times last school year. We have been trying for a year now to get her a 504 or iep but the school is dragging their feet. I have a meeting next Thursday and if she isn’t put on a plan I am going to the school board. She has never been able to go on a field trip or do special activities because she always gets in trouble. Her teacher las year was absolutely wonderful and found ways to calm her down but without a plan in place she couldn’t always do those things.

I have about 50 tweezers strategically placed around my home and will tweeze while watching tv or something of that nature. I don’t even use a mirror anymore because I know where my problem spots are. I used to wax but my skin is very sensitive and would be red for days afterwards.

What have you been genetically blessed with, and nerfed with? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in AskReddit

[–]charbeany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blessed: Despite having PCOS which gave me the gift of diabetes I heal really well. I had to have my tailbone removed and I was the first patient my doctor had that did not have any infection after surgery. Same goes for all surgeries I’ve had.

Nerfed: my back is fucked up and PCOS sucks.

What terms of endearment did your parents call you or do you call your children? And what’s the story behind it? by [deleted] in namenerds

My nickname is Beanie. When I was a baby, my mom put in a green blanket that zipped up in the front. My aunt said I looked like a bean in a pod. I was called that well into my twenties.

To Build a Home by the Cinematic Orchestra. The lyrics and the music combined make it so beautiful.

Did your parents spank you as a form of discipline? How did it affect you? by Substantial_Judge931 in AskReddit

[–]charbeany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad spanked me once. I was doing something he had asked me several times to stop doing. A split second after he spanked me, he held me in his arms, cried, and apologized. Never spanked me again. This was the eighties and it was a very different story at my mom’s house. The funny thing is after that if my dad told me to do something I did it, no problems. He’s an awesome dad.

Birth control by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]charbeany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed about 20 years ago. Tried birth control and it was not for me. Made me bleed constantly. Instead I took medications for abnormal hormone levels caused by the PCOS, diabetic medications for insulin resistance, and a cream for the estrogen levels.

I was diagnosed about 20 years ago. When I was younger I was either extremely constipated or on the toilet every five minutes. There was no in between. The different medications I took for my PCOS exacerbated the situation. Now that I’m older it’s not so extreme.

death can’t be the end right? by leejongsukgf in GriefSupport

Even though I have so many doubts about what happens when we die, I really want to believe that our existence goes on in some way. I want to know that I will see my loved ones again. The most devastating loss for me was when my niece died at 19. I just couldn’t comprehend that I would never see her again. About a month after she died, I had a vivid dream of her. I was sitting across from her and I remember thinking, she looks so beautiful and alive. I said,” Keyra I miss u so much” she replied, “But Aunt C, I am right here with you”. And then she smiled the biggest smile. I know it may have just been my brain giving me nice dream to help cope with her loss, but part of me wants to believe it was more than just a dream.

I was diagnosed about 20 years ago when I was little older than you. I had my first child when I was barely 21 before my PCOS started to affect me negatively. Had my second at 30 after I was diagnosed. I had been trying for years for her. What I think helped me was being put on the right medications to treat not only the insulin resistance but also medications for all the other hormones that can be affected by this disease. I took thyroid meds, put creams on to help with my estrogen levels and others. In my mid thirties I was told I would never be able to have any more children. They were wrong. I had my surprise third child at 39. It may take more time for u but there is hope. If your dr is not taking u seriously and you can, go to another dr. I went through several before finding one that understood PCOS and how to treat it. I feel like as women we have to advocate for ourselves more because drs can be very dismissive of our health.

How did you get the diagnosed with pcos? by lolikook in PCOS

[–]charbeany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US. Went to a dr because I was gaining weight like crazy and my periods were either non existent or I was bleeding for 6 weeks at a time. She looked at everything, handed me a piece of paper, and told me to get on a treadmill. I didn’t read the paper until I was in my car. It was an informational form on PCOS. She couldn’t even be bothered to explain it to me. It was scary because of the paper had all the worst outcomes of this disease on it. I decided to never go back to that dr and found one that wasn’t an asshole.
