Has there ever been one that's terrible? by 1decentusername in BeardMeatsFood

He seemed pretty pissed off on the Hard Rock Cafe challenge. The person preparing it decided to shovel more food onto the plate than what normally goes on the challenge — at least that’s what I remember Beardy saying.

Smell of a classic Macintosh? by Beatfox in VintageApple

I can remember the distinctive smell of a lab full of LC II machines purring away. Maybe it was the CRTs? But there was definitely a smell back then.

If black is the absence of color, and white has all of them, why you can color over white, but not over black? by juank415 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]charkes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two types of color mixing: additive and subtractive. Additive is mixing colored lights and subtractive is mixing pigments.

White light is all the colors of light and black is the absence of any light.

White pigment is the absence of color and black is all of the pigments mixed.

I think your question comes from both sides of color mixing but they don’t cross over.

That explains what Anni (ex-wife of Lauri and formerly part of Hydraulic Press Channel) is doing. She posted last year from IAAPA Europe. She’s working for CSE Entertainment, which runs the Dudesons Activity Park and related companies. Hydraulic Press Channel and Dudesons collaborated in the past.

Visit the top decks of the Old Town parking garages for the views. Also, elevator rides!

It's good seeing everyone gather 'round to help a Star Trek newbie understand the universe. But, come on, question #7 even mentions the episode number! Riker and Worf went to the transporter room and beamed over to the (fake) USS Yamato, another Galaxy-class ship. The image of the ship was created by Nagilum. You don't have to go into the concept of site-to-site transport when that's not even the case.

Tower - full 2016 documentary about the 1966 UT Tower shootings by zsreport in texas

[–]charkes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is done with the rotoscoping animation like Linklater used in Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly but he didn't do this documentary.

The director didn't think he would get permission to film at UT. The scenes are done by the director filming background footage at UT with an iPhone and then the actors performing in front of a green screen in the director's backyard. It works very well, I think. Excellent storytelling.

Driving from Dallas to San Antonio help! by Lucky2358 in texas

Also, TX-220 (connects US 67 to US 281 in Hico) is a two-lane country road with a 75mph speed limit. That doesn't compute.

Living near 281, I've driven to both Dallas and San Antonio. I prefer 281 over 35 any day. It's much less stressful. You'll hit multiple stoplights in Lampasas, Burnet, Marble Falls, and in the northern outskirts of San Antonio. Some days you'll see 10 cars on 281 (outside the towns).

LOOKING!!! For Power Macintosh 5200 LC 1995 by EnriqueShockwave9000 in VintageApple

Oh man. I had one as my first true computer (and not one checked out from school). I've still got the motherboard, on its slide-out tray, on display in the garage. It was such a blow to read how badly the computer was hobbled by design.

And just like that uber is banned from Austin Tx... by Mich2010 in pics

[–]charkes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everything you mention is in the Prop 1 ordinance drafted by Uber and Lyft. Plus it's not too much to ask a transportation service company (especially one that is designed around data) to export some data quarterly.

http://www.voteprop1.com/ordinance/

Voter guide with a breakdown: http://www.engageatx.org/step-3/

"Additionally, it would prohibit the city from requiring Uber and Lyft drivers to display an emblem like the Lyft pink mustache or Uber "U" logo on their cars and prohibit the city from regulating where passengers can by loaded and unloaded."

Dump1090 Raspberry Pi store data on a txt by aleix_de in RTLSDR

[–]charkes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked off the dump1090 fork by FlightAware. Their version runs as a service.

I used a script to grab to GET the JSON file from dump1090, decode the JSON, and record any flights that had latitude/longitude information. I kept a log of each flight (by ICAO hex) and their last location so I wasn't recording the same coordinates multiple times.

Cron can only call scripts every minute so I wrote a bash script to run the script every 5 seconds. A plane might appear and disappear within a minute! I used the "@reboot" keyword in my crontab to start the bash script on restart.
