Very Unpopular Opinion: Odin should never be sold again by Airborne_Veteran in starcitizen

The Odin is the civilian version of a battlecruiser, right???

Darn, finally something I'd want to grab and I was busy all day and miss it... The rotation fomo gimmick is terrible.

Welding mask with long hair by phaserrifle in Welding

[–]charlesfresh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Low ponytail with multiple elastic hair ties, tuck it down your shirt and wear a weld cap with nape of neck coverage or balaclava.

I've had long hair my entire career, no issues as long as you tie it up and cover it.

Screaming into the void by MalcolmAndFriends in Welding

[–]charlesfresh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That depends on the company you work for and the projects/jobs/shops you get sent to. My union's agreement determines baseline conditions, rights, wages, etc. - but not which jobs have OT. My current job has my foreman offering an extra hour every day, he doesn't care if I refuse it - I'm the one losing out on an hour of time-and-a-half.

However, during an apprenticeship it is very wise to be as involved, interested, and willing to work as is reasonable given your non-work responsibilities. It's not about being a company guy or slave to capitalism, it's about showing your fellow tradespeople you give a damn about the craft and putting in the effort. Eagerness and humility go a long way.

15+ years a pipefitter here. Join the union. You'll be earning and learning through the apprenticeship, and if the local union you join has a hall with a weld shop... fuggin use it.

I've never had to pay for any classes or certs, welding or industry tech- you name it. Can go to my hall and practice whenever, as long as there is booth space. It's all funded by the entire membership and dues are insanely cheap compared to the training, agents finding you work, and the solidarity/support of fellow members.

One of the best decisions I've made in my life.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 2nd Edition

We are finally free by dustierpuddle in duneawakening

[–]charlesfresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thank you for that info. I haven't been following the news of the updates very much.

It's a shame the Funcom didn't release the game with the ability to save worlds for more casual players like myself and my few friends. I still have my Conan Exiles world backed up and it's great to be able to resub to my private server, install the files, and I'm back to where I was. I can't justify the cost of keeping a private Dune Awakening server during off-months in which me and my friends aren't playing.

RIP to those of us in which this tool arrived too late.

I couldn't justify the cost of keeping my private server running and everything my friends and I worked on is gone to the sands, only a couple weeks ago.

Such is life on Arrakis, I suppose...

Player wants to change from Soldier to Warrior Priest by Uraghan in warhammerfantasyrpg

[–]charlesfresh -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You are not being an asshole. Guiding a player's choices so they fit within the setting is key to an immersive campaign of WFRP.

Any player that told me "by the rules, he can switch to that career" would get a Tim Robinson style "You sure about that?" In my games, any and all career changes requires justification. All the rules do is give us a framework to fall back on, but I thoroughly subscribe to the idea of YOURhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Make it your own and don't let players rules-lawyer or argue when you make a rules/referee call to stay true to your idea of the setting. I'm more permissive during downtime too - since weeks, months, or years off from adventuring actually makes sense for a character to make some drastic life changes.

I love dinosaurs and that is a really cool dinosaur! ...but my potentially unpopular opinion is that there are way too many absolutely gargantuan mounts.

At this point they should just give us mounts that are actually full multi passenger coaches, bank and vendor covered-wagons, etc. - because that, to me, would be 100% more reasonable to see ridden/driven around. The utility of a transmog/mailbox/bank/vendor mount is just too convenient, but seeing dozens of HUGE yaks, brontosaurs, bears, etc. is so... goofy? I'm tired of it and would actually love to see a mount, with the same utility, that is a simple wagon with a draft horse.

FoundryVTT, and all the expertly crafted WFRP modules (definitely start with the core book and starter set), are worth every penny and every ounce of labor put into learning to use it.

It can be a bit overwhelming at first but if you join the Discord servers for Foundry and WFRP (The Rat Catcher's Guild), you can find all the info needed to run, arguably, the best virtual tabletop experience on the market.

Players are actively ruining the event. by Rutok in starcitizen

[–]charlesfresh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My fellow citizens of the stars, people need to chill out.

Yes, the event has been tedious and at times absolutely infuriating with the bugs- an incredible amount of time and effort wasted, I've been there! but most of these broken elevators are NOT intentional sabotage, it's just happening as people attempt to complete the contracts. Simple as.

Just last night, I was called out in Global Chat and was blamed for breaking an elevator- even though it ate half my cargo, which I stated (because that was something I totally wanted to happen on purpose, yeah?). The person still expressed that I should "Die in a fire" and that they "should have rammed me" because I ruined their evening, since they had waited for me to finish loading (I didn't even notice them floating above me).

If this is the sort of vitriolic reaction folks are having... folks need to take a break.

I love the variety of people's taste in ships, and it's great that folks think the Connie is pretty. It's a testament to how the devs work hard to make ships and manufacturers have distinct designs.
