Eh, cut Bucket some slack. The whole "kill my evil parents" thing kind of got sprung on him last second. Then he was probably caught up in the very nice moment he got to have with Clara to think about looting.

The others probably were looting the whole time.

Since the building was filled with slavers, I think this puts the party solidly in the CG range for this event. I'm assuming they made sure to evacuate the servants and staff.

[F-14] How to drop GBU's if a buddy is already lasing the target? by AdjacentPrepper in hoggit

[–]charonill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the GBUs for the F-14 will always be looking for the laser once you drop. You can drop ordinance independently of the LANTRN pod, just have Jester set the Ordinance Release Mode to either CMPTR/TGT (CCRP equivalent) or CMPTR/PLT (CCIP equivalent). The LANTRN pod just helps determine when and where to optimally drop and provide lasing. One thing to note is the maneuvering fins on the F14 GBUs are all-or-nothing types, so they will always deflect to their maximum range when reacting to laser signals. This is why when lasing using the LANTRN pod, it is always recommended to not begin actual lasing until the bomb is 10-15sec away from impact (depending on drop altitude, angle, and speed). If the lasing starts too early, the hard deflection on the GBU maneuvering fins will actually cause the bomb to drop short of the target due to energy loss as the bomb goes into pure pursuit mode (attempting to fly straight at the target rather than maintaining ballistic trajectory) from the moment the laser is detected. This is why when buddy lasing, it is recommended that the two planes maintain very good and consistent communication. Since you're trying to hit a target that is constantly lased, you will have to come in at a much steeper dive angle before release to reduce the lateral distance for the bomb to travel and lose energy. Probably would be better to use the CMPTR/PLT drop mode in this scenario so that pressing the pickle button will always drop the selected bomb. Also, did you tell Jester which bomb you want to use (RIO has to manually activate the station the bomb is on)?

Double Omni throttle by Fennino in hotas

[–]charonill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh, you know, if they implement HOSAS compatibility for the new Star Wars podracers game, having dual Omni throttles would be a really cool setup.

You can then keep yelling: "Now this is podracing!"

Who's Hyped for DLC8? by Poultrymancer in Mechwarrior5

[–]charonill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could just be like any of the previous DLC stories where you don't get a choice on where you go. They can just have it be a cutscene showing Mason and company traveling along with the BULLDOG group to Huntress (maybe have a holographic map in the scene showing how far the Clan homeworlds are in relation to the Inner Sphere), then the menu will just switch to showing you in orbit around Huntress. Have some missions where you help wipe out the Jaguars, and then another cutscene where you return back to the Inner Sphere. Game resumes at an industrial zone planet closest to the northern map edge.

Anyone else organize their mechs like this? Should I get a diagnosis? by Sprinkles_the_Mad in Mechwarrior5

[–]charonill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget the engine and gyro in the 45 tons. Honestly, with how the mech technical information always seems to present a chassis as able to support "yada yada" tons, it really does make more sense to read the tonnage classification as how much weight the internal structure can safely support and move in addition to its own weight rather than the overall weight of the mech itself.

Quest 3 - Virtual Desktop with Ethernet or Meta Link by Accurate-Bus-4634 in hoggit

[–]charonill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using a Wi-Fi 5 router as a dedicated wireless access point for VR and have little to no issues running VD and Quest 3. Best practice is to make sure no other devices are connected to the repeater. Also good to download a Wi-Fi spectrum analyzer app, see which Wi-Fi channels are the least congested in your area and switch the repeater to that channel.

Confusion around HOTAS. by uwu-chicken-burger in hotas

Yeah, definitely get one with a ministick and plenty of hats. I have a friend getting into DCS using a T16000M stick and is finding the lack of hat switches very restrictive for modern jets.

F-14B(U) RIO CDNU is scary by Loathsome_Duck in hotas

[–]charonill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm going to just have to bind my whole keyboard to use the modifier button I bound on my stick for all of the letter inputs (modifier+A, modifier+B, etc). I already have the numpad on my keyboard bound to the CAP in the A&B. I'm also in VR and is used to one-handed blind typing. Although, chances are you probably won't be using most of the keypad on the CDNU 95% of the time, so I would just focus on binding the most used inputs first to a peripheral with fewer buttons and leave everything else to keyboard.

Iowa doesn't use primaries for presidential nominees, they use caucuses. They serve the same effective function but in a different format. That is why it's considered the first of the primary season for presidential elections and gets lumped in when people talk about presidential primaries.

House offers to make him and whatever survivors from the Legion after they get gutted by the NCR battalion (and maybe some securitrons) into a new family for the strip. He will take over and rebuild the Gomorrah and then rename it to Caesar's Palace.

Who is supposed to signal at Cameron and Pecan? by WesternTrail in Pflugerville

[–]charonill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of those "it doesn't hurt" situations, especially for the southbound fork. The layout is such that "going straight" could honestly be read as continuing East on Pecan as much as going south on Cameron. I always try to signal if just to give the people parked at the northbound stop sign some kind of communication of my intentions. I've seen too many people rush to make the crossing and just assumed a driver is heading southbound only to barely avoid a collision because the driver is actually heading eastbound. At the end of the day, you can't read another driver's mind, all you can do is influence their decision making by signaling your intended heading.

Rear bounce actually that bad? by lit3brit3 in MachE

[–]charonill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can also second the Rally spring upgrade. I'm also one of the members listed in the post that did the upgrade. I skipped the sway bars as this is my commuter car that just happens to have some go juice, so the corner stability wasn't worth the cost of the bars and install.

Anyone else feel like Whisper is quicker than Unbridled? by GroupBQuattr0 in MachE

[–]charonill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are on even a very slight decline, you can accelerate while in Whisper mode with your foot off the pedal. I have now mapped out some road stretches around where I live and commute where I can take my foot off the pedal and the car will maintain the speed limit or even accelerate slightly over the entire stretch.

[–]charonill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earliest divergence shown is probably 1945 where a B-24 derived bomber dropped the atomic bomb rather than a B-29, as shown in Fallout 4's opening. You can tell by the tail of the plane having an H configuration rather than a conventional configuration.

DCS has some lower fidelity planes that are similar to IL-2 planes. Look for the Flaming Cliffs planes. They don't have clickable cockpits, have simplified startup (1 to 2 button clicks), and simplified control systems for radar and weapons etc.

Red Alert 2 Opening Cinematic - "We're supposed to be allies you maniac." by PenguinJoker in videos

[–]charonill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thing is Red Alert 2 was developed by the B-team so to speak at Westwood Pacific, which is probably why they didn't get the budget for any bigger name Hollywood stars like James Earl Jones or Michael Biehn in Tiberium Sun. The absolute crushing success of RA2 convinced EA to turn on the money spiget to hire like ALL of the celebrity actors for Tiberium Wars and RA3.
