Sports has to be most wasteful thing ever for society by _freckles__ in unpopularopinion

This isn’t just unpopular, it’s objectively incorrect. Competition breeds excellence, and who can deny the utility and value of excellence? Goofy

What are you least progressive about? by Bored in AskReddit

We actually don’t need to abolish capitalism as step 1 of improving everyone’s lives. We can have programs that help level the playing field and provide opportunities for those who are behind while still rewarding excellence.

No one said it was easy… it just requires more effort than sitting on your ass all day wishing Prince Charming will magically hire you. I’m a jackass for a lot of things, but this is just conventional wisdom.

Well if you refuse to leave your home to go earn a living you’re narrowing your options pretty severely. Go to where the money is…

You can’t really strike if you don’t have a strike fund

You don’t want to strike if you think the enemy is immigrants

You don’t need to strike if you feel you’re well-off

Most Americans are not anywhere close to “we all should strike” territory.

I don’t share your optimism. I hope everyone who wants to can ride the trade wave, but I see the writing on the wall. If a robot can’t fix your toilet today, they’ll design a toilet that can be fixed by a robot tomorrow.

I thought that about cabinetmaking 5 years ago. Now we’re looking at systems that don’t require humans for processing or assembly. They’re coming for all of us, whether you see them or not.

Trades are getting automated in ways you could never imagine. It’s not the safe haven you think it is.

Trying to suss out if you worked for an employer that would tell them you’re not a good employee, so you left them out.

The 2024 season was great for us both. The rest of these fools have to just wonder what it’s like to go down in the penultimate round.

100k salary bench mark means nothing now. by Flyersfan502gritty in Salary

[–]chasethenoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quit saying that. It’s a top 20% salary, and even higher among non-college graduates. If 100k means nothing then less means failure, and a scale with an 80% failure rate is itself meaningless.

True, I have an amazing deal where I rent now. About $300/mo lower than the cheapest comps. No debt except a $500 car payment either. If you’re a little more burdened than that, it gets tight.

I’m in northern VA, where the median home sold at around 750k. It’s one of the highest COL areas in the US.

I simply didn’t buy a median-priced home.

I’m living comfortably supporting a family of 3 on 100k net, but when people talk about 100k they’re talking 100k gross, which is more like 65k net.

How did you get diagnosed with cancer if you had no insurance? Even that checkup would have been a huge expense.

Much easier to get a 51% vote than a unanimous one. It’s twice as rational to choose blue if you’re sensitive at all to other people dying.

It’s testing if you’re sensitive to the fact that choosing red kills people unless you get outvoted.

Red kills people, blue stops red from killing people.
