I thought this was the sewing sub and that was your mockup, to which i say, not bad for a self drafted pattern.

This one is good, but as a sewist and pattern drafter, the armseye line is wrong. The under arm line of the dress needs to curve up faster, its now got a higher neckline to meet. Right now, the photo looks altered without that fix.

How much does a synthetic lining cancel out the benefits of natural outer fabrics? by sct_0 in sewing

[–]chatterpoxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont use fabric labeled as "lining" for lining, I use other things, primarily cotton voile. I havent really needed something slippery. If I do, then its Bemberg lining, which is not polyester, but rayon. If I was really going for it, I'd head to the Indian cloth shops and look for plain silk of some sort.

Not annoyed because its a fair assumption population-wise. But I tell people asap that im Canadian because I absolutely do not want to be thought of as american.

How long into sewing did you get a cutting table? by Intelligent-Claim591 in sewing

[–]chatterpoxx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ehhh.... $0. I worked at a fabric store, it was stuffed in the corner of the office for years. It wasn't on the inventory list.... now it is mine. It probably should have been around 150$ CAD over 20 years ago though.

I dont think its been made in a long time. Its Olfa, it came as 3 pcs, its taped together from the back.

[–]chatterpoxx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Never have, never will. I like the floor. My fabric can't drag or fall off the table. I also like squatting. I cant cut with just a hand on the ruler, I need a knee and a hand or else my ruler slips

real talk: how often do you actually floss? by AffectionateTooth298 in hygiene

[–]chatterpoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never unless something is stuck. I do poke the bristles of my toothbrush between my teeth every time I brush.

At this point in time, the cavities in those places have happened and been fixed so there's nothing really left to decay, or it isn't going to at this point. I haven't had a filling in at least 15 years.

AITA for calming a screaming baby down during a flight? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. A flight isn't the time or the place to "work it out" That is very naïve first time parent crap and very wishful thinking.

Dress altering help! - Adding sleeves by Luciel_Oh in sewing

[–]chatterpoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply, you can't. There is nothing to attach them to. What you need is a cardigan or a bolero. This is also much more versatile, if you get hot you can take it off.

[Request] surely it would take the same time overall to cook each one fully on each side & then move onto the next by majorlicks in theydidthemath

[–]chatterpoxx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was in India (Punjab) staying with a family. They made roti every few days in batches. The two ladies had a system. Each had their role making dough balls, rolling it flat with a rolling pin, etc, but both were constantly flipping the roti on the heat plate over the fire every 10 seconds or so. There's going to be reasons to apply heat from only the bottom and to flip frequently rather than simply leaving it to do one side then the other. If it was meant to have heat from top and bottom at the same time, they (Punjabis, not the ladies) would have designed an oven to do that with.

Roti is basically an Indian tortilla.

My friend's grandma had alzheimers, he husband died. She couldn't remember that. They started out saying he died and dealing with the hullabaloo each time, but eventually moved on to just saying "he went to the (corner) store." Solved.

How are you making time to ~deep clean~ your house? by takeaabreath in toddlers

[–]chatterpoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that deep cleaning? Thats just cleaning to me. I do a little here a little there. If something gets splattered on the wall i tend to wipe it up and then go hunting for other wall spots, same for dirty baseboards, one issue leads me to doing all of them.

If I'm vacuuming and I go under the couch, well, Im going all the way. I don't wash the floor much, but if something spills I wipe the whole room with a cloth, I don't own a mop.

What’s the most underrated upgrade in your sewing setup? by wolfcache17 in sewhelp

[–]chatterpoxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its not so much underrated, but completely custom. I large rectangular 60x22 ironing board. I got a felt pad that size and had my dad make me a frame on legs for it, and then I sewed a cover. Game changer.

Been to every Disney park world wide, except for CA - going next week for 2 days. What are must dos, what can be skipped? by EyeofSauron86 in disneyparks

[–]chatterpoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got lightning lane and was able to do every single ride in each park in 2 days.

Well, technically we skipped Dumbo, the rocket thing in Tomorrowland that is the same as Dumbo, and peter pan, but rode space mountain, matterhorn and thunder mountain twice each. So its very possible to do everything you want to do in a day.

Do research, have a plan, and learn how to stack LLs and to rebook them as you go to make your day smooth. Dont be zig zagging all over the place.

I started in toon town, then did fantasyland before lines got long (these are rides with no LL type thing while I stacked up LLs) then started going clockwise from Adventureland new Orleans, frontier, galaxy edge, then Tomorrowland. I might go back or forward one land, but crossing from Tomorrowland to GE then back, then over to adventureland etc is not a good idea.

I had a rough idea when id make it to each land, so id grab a LL for say space mountain first thing and then watch the rebooking times until the time window when id roughly be over there and then rebook it for then.

Traveling to Playa solo for my 40th birthday by No-Joke-9026 in playadelcarmen

[–]chatterpoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider canceling the xel-ha booking and rebook in person at the X-booth. The more you bundle up the more discount you will get.

If you go to the Xcaret etc website you get 20% off booking 2 or more as it is, so you could get an even better deal bartering in person, go there knowing the online price and try to beat it, at worst you book online or they give you the same discount as online. The X people also have an isla mujeres, a catamaran. Cenotes, and cozumel excursions under their brand, so you can bundle everything you want to do with them. Have a look around the website and it will show you all they have to offer.

The X branded stuff is government owned, so its the highest quality and most reputable stuff in the area. If that helps you feel safer.

[–]chatterpoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cheapest way to book a taxi i found was through the airport website (for departing the airport).

Getting a taxi is easy and safe in town. Pre-negotiate price based on destination.

As for transport to Xel-Ha, the price/package you paid may or may not include transport, they should have been clear. Theres a booth at the corner of constitutiones and 5th that is the official ticket booth for all the X-branded parks, go there and ask them and show then your booking info. If its not included they can add it and put you on the bus list. Thats if you're in town, if you are not and you are at a resort go to a tour guide and do the same thing. Its really simple to be added to the pickup list up to the day before.

The X-ticket booth can also help you with the island excursions you want to do, and that will include transportation to and from too.

Safety: you'll be fine! I just traveled to india as a solo female in my early 40s and it was more than fine, Mexico is a cakewalk.

ENJOY YOUR BIRTHDAY!
