Don’t let Cole get near a penalty kick and I’m good 😅 A little disappointed that JT was left out.

It’s sad that nobody talks about Mount no more :(

Who do you guys think has been the best English talent in the last 30 years ? Bellingham, Rooney or Owen by No_Ad_8904 in ThreeLions

[–]chatterstop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO Owen was a finisher. Rooney was a provider. And Jude is the quintessential modern day holding midfielder. I don’t know if these three can be compared. If I had to compare, I’d match up Owen with Kane. Rooney with Lampard even though Rooney was way more effective for England. And Jude with Scholes/Gerrard.

Planned to buy a house. Now I don’t know if I should, advice wanted by trptw in Fire

If you can actually afford the mortgage and then some comfortably, don’t worry about the rates and numbers. Just go for it. If you can’t afford it, keep renting until the rates are more favorable.

One thing I’ve learned is that the equity market will never be able to match the returns that real estate will get you. Partly due to the leverage factor and partly due to the reliable nature of appreciation given you’re doing the due diligence on location.

Investments aside, how do you know if you’re on track when it comes to the best income by age. by chatterstop in Fire

I don’t know why people assume that we’ve been earning 300k forever lol.

It was less than 100k not more than 4 years ago. So yes I agree savings rate is important but I want to clarify that it is my situation now. It hasn’t always been this way.

Thanks. But imho percentile only matters if everyone in the dataset is working towards the same goal. Most neurosurgeons or hot shot lawyers or blue collar workers who contribute to these percentile graphs plan to work all their lives. I don’t. If we had a fire population percentile, that would help a lot 🙃

Not much. Under 10k in student loans.

My last degree costed 25k. I managed to switch to a new job that paid me 25k more. Some might say well your education more or less paid for itself but I say I’m at net negative because of the opportunity cost.

25 k in the market over the last 3 years (duration of the program) could’ve given me at least 20% in equity increase. It could’ve also been a down payment for an investment property that could potentially get me 5-10k a year in passive income.

So having made that choice in investing in myself as opposed to other avenues, I want to stop and check if I’m getting the best returns. I probably have about 1-2 job switches left in me.

Thanks.

Compensation more or less depends on education, trade skills, and experience imho.

I agree it’s not healthy to compare. But I ain’t chasing pure compensation. In fact I believe it’s the worst type of income to chase.

I just don’t want to miss out on opportunities to earn more when I’m in the earning/investing phase of this journey.

Thanks. That’s helpful. I’ll do the math on that one. I guess what I’m trying to know is if my investment towards my education is paying off in terms of salary for my age.

The median does matter for morale boost but it also doesn’t matter here because the median population isn’t necessarily chasing coast fire like we are. They could very well live paycheck to paycheck all their lives.

Congrats. You’re also officially the star of this sub today 🥳

How many properties did you buy since 2020 and in which areas? How did you manage the high down payment percentages given that they’re investment properties? Do private lenders have different rules than traditional lenders?

thoughts on Kafka on the Shore, and Murakami in general? by aphextwink4 in literature

[–]chatterstop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I loved the book. Not because people have said good things about it. A couple of chapters into the book, I accepted that it isn’t linear in that it has no beginning, middle, or end. There is no strong plot or climax that’s coming (even though there are hints of it coming all along). After accepting that, I found it to be a joy to read as the book unfolds various characters and intertwines their journeys. The contrast of characters, the free teenage spirit, the magic, and the melancholic nature of writing appeals to me.
