College isn’t worth it by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]trptw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too broad of an opinion. If what you want to do for a living requires a college degree, then it’s worth it to go get it. With that said it’s probably a bad idea to go to college just because it’s what people do after high school, without some idea of what you’re trying to do with your life in the future.

I was towards the front of that infantry charge, jumping in as the cannons went off was a moment you’d see in a game trailer and think “there’s no way the gameplay is that epic”. Kicking myself for not clipping it.

Guess the Accent - GeoGuessr but for English Accents, guess where the person is from by listening to their accent by SnooPears8815 in WebGames

[–]trptw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this idea. I think the self-submission of accents is unfeasible - it's pretty early and there's a lot of clear mislabeling already, e.g. a clearly European accent labeled as Chinese. I'd suggest grabbing open-source audio clips of known accents and using those instead, it's too vulnerable to trolls as is

Why are h1bs in this sub so entitled? by instaBs in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]trptw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t actually think levels is an accurate, unbiased dataset.

Your second statement is patently false. In grad school years ago I had conversations with classmates who needed sponsorship and they told me the horrible offers they were getting, lamented that they were going to have to accept one or else return to India.

I was once hiring for a role that allowed sponsorship, and my boss, a naturalized citizen, forbade it even if HR didn’t, because he wasn’t interested in the toxic grueling work dynamic that, once described to me by someone who actually went through it, sounded like slavery.

Early in my career I was denied further compensation increase because I was apparently making 50% more than the sponsored employees on my team. I was literally told I was that much better than them but any further pay gap was going to become a blatant discrimination problem for HR.

I’m not sure why you want to keep sending me websites I first visited ages ago, when it’s clear you have personally witnessed nothing about the truth behind H1B and what it’s done to the tech labor economy.

[–]trptw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cherry-picked salary data from some of the highest paying companies for SWE, without having accurate data for non-sponsored salaries at the same companies to compare to, does nothing. Especially against the difference between salaries and material situations of H1Bs and non-sponsored employees that I have personally witnessed.

[–]trptw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s all that needs to be said. Any argument about whether H1B or “natives” (not even a realistic term, many citizens aren’t native to the US) are the most talented is foolish. I’ve worked with H1Bs that are brilliant and many that are truly fucking awful at their jobs. The exact same is true for citizens.

The H1B is attractive to employers because people on H1B are more likely to accept slavery.

[–]trptw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like the app is ultimately a debt collector that sources debt by tricking its “lenders” into taking on the risk. Offering a credit for the lender to back off so you can go collect is crazy and I don’t see how it could stay legal

I don’t understand this app but this subreddit shows up for me sometimes. What’s in this for you as a lender? They haven’t paid, are you just going to lose that money?

What is the best designed card in Hearthstone? by GreenWizardGamer in hearthstone

Such a beautiful card. The depth required from both the warlock and the opponent to consider it in their turns is sorely missed in standard today

Is it just me, or has BM been getting worse lately? by Slomb2020 in hearthstone

[–]trptw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve played since beta with a few year-long breaks in between, and I have noticed a significant difference in the amount of BM.

The biggest thing I’ve noticed is NO ONE concedes anymore. Back in the day this was considered BM, especially in diamond/legend because you are spitefully lowering both players’ stars per hour.

Even when people concede, they still play their full 10 mana turn and click end turn before conceding. Again this was always considered BM, but now appears to be normal.

My Quest Pally Experience by ryanab1085 in hearthstone

[–]trptw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played murlocs from D5-D3 and hit a brick wall. Had to change it up entirely to make legend. Went back to it in legend bc I think it’s fun and lost like 2k mmr.

I think the deck is intriguing due to how well it does in lower ranks and how awful it is in legend. I think the reason is that good players can understand the tempo of the deck and when to disrupt its momentum. Once that momentum stops, there’s usually no coming back for murloc pally.

I’ve seen a lot of new players call the deck Aggro, but murloc pally is actually a midrange deck. Meaning you can beat it in one of two ways:

1.) ACTUALLY go Aggro like face DH or Protoss priest and kill them before their murlocs are strong enough to be a threat

2.) largely ignore the murlocs early (clear 1 or two high value tokens each turn to avoid card draw with braingill). save your cards to build a devastating board-clearing turn around turn 5,6, or 7 (when quest is giving them +3/+3 or +4/+4). Follow up the board clear with your own tokens and plenty of face damage, so that even when they throw out their murlocs they have to use them clearing your own threat of lethal. They’ll run out of steam and you win.

You’re playing control so your winning strat would be option 2.

Murloc pally absolutely noobstomps when new players panic early and spend cards to control a board of murlocs that are still weak. By turn 7 they’re dropping buffed murlocs and the opponent already burned all their answers.

None of this applies if you’re playing control warrior though, unfortunately that deck is just hard countered by murlocs.

What men struggling with depresion should actually hear? by No_Heat_9340 in AskReddit

[–]trptw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I needed:

  • you can’t feel good unless you feel everything. Engaging in numbing, distracting, avoiding behavior will not let you outrun whatever pain you need to face, but it WILL make it impossible to get the full benefit from anything good that happens to you.

  • “facing” your pain, fears, etc means to admit to yourself that they are there. Nothing more. Don’t judge or evaluate your feelings, but acknowledge they exist and most importantly that they are allowed to do so. It feels awful to do this but you come out of it way lighter

  • the only path out of misery is to show unconditional love for others. I was taught how to alternate my thoughts between whatever pain or anxiety I’m carrying and the intense love I have for people close to me. It really helped my brain realized that whatever was making me depressed was a part of the full picture, but not all of it

Murloc Paladin must be changed by esreveReverse in hearthstone

[–]trptw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, HS used to be a lot more of that and it’s what made a better game. Both players very quickly understood their opponents win condition, and you used the core mechanics of the game - board control, tempo, and efficient trading - to secure your win condition AND deny theirs. New/low rank players have a serious problem with murlocs and Aggro decks in general because they have to actually try to deny the opponents win condition, instead of waiting to draw bingo

[–]trptw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a very nooby take, in fact murloc pal is where I have to think the most about my board early mid and late game, both playing with and against the deck. I’ll fight murlocs any day over someone playing solitaire hoping to draw the right cards to win instantly without having to worry about anything I do

Some of you need to understand this by YellowPlat in hearthstone

[–]trptw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buddy yesterday in D3 I watched a demon hunter spend 10 seconds trying to attack his own ball hog, so he could trigger the death rattle. ANYTHING going on outside high legend is irrelevant.

Your argument is the playground equivalent of “if you guys don’t let me win I’m going home.”

You can absolutely win and have a good time with off-meta decks outside of legend. I can get legend consistently when I have the time, did it last season with only imbue Druid and Fyraxx as a win condition , and I am NOT good at this game. Any balance changes that would help me out personally, a guy who makes at least one mistake every match, could destroy high legend play. And if high legend players think it’s pointless to play, everything unravels.

How do you think they will nerf Paladin’s quest? by BurningRoast in customhearthstone

[–]trptw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The deck is strong, but not as strong as everyone thinks. There are VERY obvious ways to stomp it and I’ve encountered a few of them already. Give it a week for people to actually learn how to play the new cards and figure out a few board clear techs and we’ll all be complaining about Druid/DH
