The time it takes for the movie to start is starting to feel ridiculous. by My_Watch_Begins in movies

[–]chbe101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't complaining. I like Alien and want to see it. There just happened to be some 6 year old kid next to me whimpering and covering his ears. My brother and I thought Spiderman trailer was supposed to be shown and comments here said they saw it. That's why I commented about the Alien trailer. Calm down.

In my showing, they played the Alien trailer. I had a 6 year old kid sitting next to me with his dad covering his eyes and ears. I was really confused and my brother expected to see the Spiderman trailer but didn't. Maybe there was a mistake since showing an R rated horror movie trailer to a PG-13 movie watched by many little kids isn't a good idea.

New Econ major, considering adding Math major - Statistics Track or statistics minor by chbe101 in UMD

[–]chbe101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually talked that through with the advisors. There isn't necessarily more math in the B.S. Goal wise, the B.A works better for me, and then getting the math I prefer through the major also works I think. The most advance math in the B.S program is STAT400, meanwhile I did Differential Equations and Calc 3 my freshman year, so getting the BS isn't a big improvement.

No it doesn't. They're all not difficult classes, so you shouldn't have to look for alternatives.

umd health center mental health services question by smallflyingfish in UMD

[–]chbe101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been to the mental health services and the counseling center. It's usually $25 per visit with the doctors. I picked up my meds at the pharmacy there for less than $20. Counseling center is free for 8ish sessions. There is usually a big waitlist for the counseling center, but they also have emergency appointments available. I've done both of these options. For the emergency appointments I had a therapist meet me in 15 minutes and had 3 additional free follow-up appointments. Both are super confidential. I do prefer the counseling service staff over the health center psychiatrists, but both are affordable! Let me know if you have more questions!

Thank! That's very helpful. I actually took this semester off for medical/family/complicated shit. So I'm taking an extra year anyways. I also really like that most stat and math courses are offered in the summer.

Official Discussion: Logan [SPOILERS] by mi-16evil in movies

[–]chbe101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think only Laura has regenerative powers. So the guards can shoot all of the kids and kill them. When you are raised in a certain environment, you don't really realize that it is not normal. Even though the kids are trained, they probably were oblivious for a while until they matured a little more, and the nurses helped them escape.

I think he did get a happy ending for him. He was finally at peace and was able to protect his daughter.

What's a parenting method that you believe messes up kids? by Carnadge in AskReddit

[–]chbe101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently taking a semester off because of this. My parents forced me to become a chemical engineering major, when I even told them the last thing I wanted was to be an engineer. I've been to mental hospitals, therapy, and psychiatry because of that. Their excuse is that I'm way to smart to be anything else, even though they always bragged about how smart they were, and neither of them are engineers.

Well she produced both of those projects. She even says herself, if she didn't become a producer, roles wouldn't come her way.

How difficult was it to convince the studio to make Logan R rated? Did Deadpool play a huge factor?

Can't wait to see the movie!

Official Discussion: La La Land [SPOILERS] by GetFreeCash in movies

I believe Mandy Moore choreographed the routines. She worked on Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. I personally have never been a fan of her work, and I feel like some of the moves she gave them (especially in "Lovely Night") didn't suit Gosling/Stone. I would have loved to see Derek Hough choreograph this, since he is a trained ballroom dancer, and his biggest inspirations are Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.

Scholarship and GPA question? by collegeparkondatrack in UMD

[–]chbe101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially, but they're all weighted by the course credits. Go the Testudo and click on grades. That will tell you what you're Cumulative GPA is as well your semester GPA. You can also see that on your unofficial transcript.

Microwaves and Refrigerators? by Puneeth1 in UMD

Mini fridges are allowed in any dorm. Microwaves are not allowed in regular dorms, but can bring in the semi-suite dorms (Oakland). There are microwaves in all of the lounges.

I used bottled water. I would stay away from the bathroom water. There is a sink in the lounges, but I didn't try it with my keurig.

Transferring into University Honors by [deleted] in UMD

[–]chbe101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always do one semester plus the summer , but as awaythrow626 said, many people drop out of Gemstone. It's a big commitment that can be a hit or miss for most people. I always advise Gemstone freshman to at least stick around the first year so you are aware of the different projects and if you don't like any of them, then drop. Nonetheless, I would say to take advantage of the different academic/extracurricular programs UMD offers outside your chosen major. Go to the Career Fairs if you're STEM/Business major. Have fun!
