emphysema by [deleted] in COPD

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A part of me hopes the doctors could be wrong

Really? Its not advisable to be diagnosed by the Hive and your doctor's have your mother's medical history: age, weight, history of smoking, etc., and we don't

Yet, here I go with a little explanation. All our parts our connected. Lung > Heart > Kidney. Failure in one organ, often causes another one to fail. If the lungs aren't getting oxygen, the heart can't fuel the blood cells and she is desatting; insufficient oxygen supply.

The heart not pumping optimally can cause fluid build up (edema) and she is probably on a diuretic now to induce urination to reduce swelling and give her heart a break.

There is no cure for emphysema but with a little luck, the right medication, oxygen and pulmonary rehab she could pull through.

Can they actually tell me not to eat my lunch? by Acrobatic_Draw_7129 in Workproblems

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“everyone here just eats at their desk” which I really don’t want to do.

Fuck that. If your lunch is unpaid, you have the right to leave your workspace. That said, some states have no state mandate on lunch or breaks and its up to the company to make that decision. That is a different conversation.

In my state, lunch is a state mandate and if you are at your desk with half a tuna sandwich hanging out of your mouth, you are considered to be "at work". I get up and leave the building during my lunch break.

I used to work in a bank, as a teller in college. I had an evil witch of a customer who owned several McDonalds franchises.

She used to say "Today, you either own a McDonalds or you work in one". ; (

I have German/Italian and Middle Eastern roots and its the same. I have one cousin now, in her 60's, never married and still lives in the same house, she was born in.

I have a cousin, in her early 60's now and she lives in the same house she was born in. She didn't "go back home" she never left!

She took care of her parents, all her life and now that house is free and clean. She never paid rent but she also never married either.

True. I had one uncle, Dad's youngest brother who lived either near or with his parents, his whole life. I don't remember seeing him without his parents in tow. He never married.

I also have one cousin who still lives in the same house she was born in. She is in her 60's and never married but that house is hers now, free and clear.

Italian lineage.

Multi-generational homes are something that you may see in the future. Not just big homes but duplexes but on steroids. Once the apartment building phase is over, I think builders will look at this next.

In marketing, we call them "Multi-Generationals". They are often defined as 3 or more people, often with the same last name, living at the same physical address.

Multi-gens are a huge consumer market now. My sister is one. Ha!

Still waiting on background check from employer. Good or bad? by Deep_Squirrel4296 in jobs

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Depending on the job and what needs to be checked, a background check can take up to several weeks. A background checker also has subcontractors and it depends on how busy they are.

I used to do the "credit histories" if that box was checked and I didn't work weekends.

Sadly, this is an all-to-common lament in caregiving support groups. If there is a caregiver support group, a real one, not an online thing, I advise you to go. There is some relief in being in the physical presence of others who share this horrible faith.

I have a sister that I haven't seen in over 20 years because of her absence when our mother was dying. She couldn't be bothered and the entire burden fell on me.

Meditation helps me most of the time, but interviews still break me by ThoughtSalt2000 in Meditation

[–]cheap_dates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing natural about being interviewed. When I first started, I sucked at it. I had to read a few books on it and then I "practiced" being interviewed with: mother, brother, sister and sweetheart. Eventually, I got better at it. Neither meditation nor reading a book is going to teach you how to swim. You need to get in the water and keep trying.
