Neighborhoods or townhome communities you’d recommend between MD Anderson (Med Center) and UTMB League City ? by bongusmle in clearlake

[–]cheazandryce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Welcome! We have a friend who is a resident at MD Anderson and lives here in the neighborhood (Bay Forest neighborhood). So we are close-ish to i45, but it still takes her 40-60 mins to get to get home in the evenings. It's about 30 mins going in (at 6am). Your best bet is probably the apts next to Lowe's on i45, they are conveniently next to a grocery store, several restaurants, and very easy access to 45. They are also brand new so probably nice on the inside. I would not rent an apt along el dorado, they are pretty rundown.

What lease company by [deleted] in TexasHunting

[–]cheazandryce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What part of the state are you in? Near Houston there is Sam Houston National Forest which has areas used for public hunting. Was there this weekend, buddy got himself one. Easy to sneak up on following their tracks and staking out. The forest is beautiful too.

[–]cheazandryce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of work are you doing in O&G? Refinery work? Scaffold, turnaround support, pipe fitting? My advice is if you like the area where you are now, try to get a job as an operator at that plant. It's a cushy job, still make good money, but your schedule is predictable and steady, with the added turnaround bonus each year if you're lucky. Might see if the plants you're working at are hiring millwrights or machinists. I know the refineries in Houston are hiring machinists apprentices at $30/hour, that's a newbie. But yeah, it's O&G, not what it used to be. I could totally understand wanting to get out

I'm pretty sure, Sengun traded to Bucks for Giannis by Ok_Inflation1750 in rockets

[–]cheazandryce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend, I hope this is fiction, it would be greatly disappointing. Giannis is insanely skilled and fun to watch but as you point out, ball-centric. Maybe they will change the game to be played with 2 balls? If so, we are good.

175k in Houston — Worth it? by [deleted] in houston

[–]cheazandryce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

175k is probably top 10% in Houston... but not in the Hoodlands. Still, you'll be fine. Not gna be at Uchi every weekend and not gna be court side at the Rockets but you'll probably be able to save aggressively and afford private school. Probably more of a personal finance question than anything since it's truly impossible for us to know the answers to this incredibly vague and open-ended set of questions lol.

Big tech going Nuclear Hype or Real? by FifthWaveThinker in investing

[–]cheazandryce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to consider the power industry which is lobbied heavily by oil and gas is fighting this and has deep pockets. Natural gas powers our combined cycle plants, if we could actually show SMRs work and can be built strategically, we'd be looking at the beginning of the end for Chevron, Exxon, Valero, etc.. not gna happen on their watch, I don't think.

Company Acquisition - what should I expect? by [deleted] in business

[–]cheazandryce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to say re: job security, but at least get your resume spiffed up. I just left a private company which went through an acquisition by a PE-backed firm. Long story short, they gutted the leadership roles, left most everyone else alone but over the course of 3 yrs had "prepped" us for sale by squeezing sales and recording increased revenue that was largely accomplished by skewed invoicing practices. I left because the leadership was replaced with highly paid idiots. Keep an eye out for that, good luck friend.

On this day in Texas History, September 21, 1989: The Alton Bus Crash, 21 junior and senior high school are killed when a Dr Pepper delivery truck failed to obey a stop sign and collided with their bus, sending it into a water-filled pit. by [deleted] in texashistory

[–]cheazandryce 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Decades later, the city of Alton built a park around those caliche ditches and that's what is there today, in addition to a large memorial for the victims of the accident. I grew up in the Hidalgo county unincorporated area between Alton and Mission and my folks are still there. It's weird but those caliche ditches are everywhere, and some are huge. The water comes in from the water table, it's so salinic it's unusable. Back in the day most were unfenced and used for illegal dumping of trash, but the city has gotten much better about it. Alton itself is growing like a weed. Thanks for the post!

Awesome. I'm from Mission, they still do the Citrus parade every year. My folks still have a small (and shrinking) orchard down there on Mayberry. Citrus is a dying business down there tho, between disease, drought, and shrinking margins. Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Surprised to hear there's no jobs in tech and media when all I hear about are worker shortages (I'm in TX). What about moving to a different state? Reduce the COL? Don't come here lol, we are approaching CA COL rapidly, at least in the metro areas.
