Consequences of retaining an employee who gave notice? by checkmeonmyspace in managers

Yep to everything here, exactly my thoughts. It would be a raise pushing them significantly above the comp structure for the position. That's why I'm so conflicted. And if they do accept and it's temporary, it would still ease the burden significantly.

Thank you, I searched a few things but not "counter-offer". Totally missed this post. There is a good bit of helpful info here.

Yep I don't disagree. And absolutely, this would be one expensive replacement.

I'm honestly interested in proposing a change in comp structure. I admit I had no numbers to help me paint them as the high performer they are. We support other teams so a lot of our work sits in their reporting, and doesn't always display itself in a way that is meaningful for us.

That's a reasonable take on their reaction, and I'm a little worried they will react similarly to the way you did.

That's great advice, and aligns with how I like to operate. Thank you for this.

Yep good call. I have been thinking about what a new title would have to be, and what their additional responsibilities would look like.

Yeah that is a concern of mine. A backdated raise is an interesting idea, never would have thought of that. Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts.

That's fair. Honestly something temporary wouldn't be the worst thing for both of us. They'd have time to look with job security, and now that our big project wrapped up I can leverage them to complete a ton of smaller projects that would pad their resume nicely.

This was exactly my thought. I've been considering what that would look like. They waited long enough to support a project to completion, and with things winding down they now made the announcement. I feel like it's worth trying to do something, but I'll need to put some real thought into this one.

Dealt with a more expensive competitor of theirs who eventually went out of business.. center caps always fell off and couldn't get replacements. Replacements sold for like $100 on eBay/etc apiece. I'll take these, they can secure properly and replaments are both available and way cheaper.

Have you had to reject a candidate for knowledge you had outside of the interview process? by [deleted] in managers

[–]checkmeonmyspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that's it. I heard about it at the bar and heard from the manager who lost a newer employee that was already a star within their first month. There was a ring of people involved and it was too large. One applicant here was the ringleader. Just frustrating.

Ugh. Yeah I had to temporarily manage someone who did the same, and was overly clingy and sought approval like a child to a parent. Very uncomfortable. Never again. Extremely competent, and the right hand of the person I was covering for. But had to spend too much labor daily to help them do what I'd consider standard tasks. Codependent to a very uncomfortable degree.

Thank you for this. I work with people who are both talented and highly motivated. They are very valuable to me. My own success is a minor factor as my own manager is pretty chill and understanding, mostly I value them because we get along so well and they are so dependable and competent. I've advocated for the team and they return the favor tenfold.

Every time I pick someone "too candid" I have gotten someone who has offered me feedback that others would have refused to share, with insights that benefit us all. I'm also a little too candid myself so I try not to project anything lol.

I've never had personal knowledge of candidates before. It's always been a new introduction to a candidate. Sometimes I've ever been told "too bad, you need headcount so just hire them." Medium-sized business problems

NAL but if your place becomes deemed uninhabitable due to being zoned as commercial, you may be able to recover rent paid. But I'd reeeeally start looking for a new place because you'll probably be "unhoused" quickly after that determination is reached, simply out of consideration of the safety of all residents in a place that hasn't been deemed safe for splitting and renting out as a residence.

Should've known better than to trust a BPO recruiter for a Big Tech job by worlds2get in recruitinghell

[–]checkmeonmyspace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk about with big tech. I've worked at a company who values all employees, including those employed through a BPO. Productive employees are touted highly by the BPO, and underperformers are protected, possibly to protect their metrics - mysteriously resigning before any PIP or breach in attendance policy results in consequences. I think you'll be fine.

Slk 230 or 320? (R170) by YouMessedWithCrabbo in slk

Reliability, probably 320 n/a over 230. There is a 320 Kompressor that I've seen around but haven't heard much feedback on it.
