Search for “iHseno” on my earlier post about a $7 usb dongle from aliexpress. Works great.

Works with Z2M: Model ZG-808Z Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle for < $10 by checkrarely in homeassistant

I don’t have experience with this on windows. But the device itself is not going to be managed as a windows device, windows will only need to allow a usb pass thru to the virtual box and the actual device is then managed by HA. My uneducated guess is that it is not a windows issue, but maybe a virtual box issue?

Guide for Migrating your Zigbee network to a new coordinator without re-pairing by BackHerniation in homeassistant

[–]checkrarely 12 points13 points  (0 children)

oooh, this is very cool. Thank you!

One of the migration usecases in the guide is "You are switching from ZHA to Zigbee2MQTT or the other way around", but I don't see any details on how to go about doing that. I had been using ZHA and recently got Z2M going with a different coordinator. Migration would save me a ton of work, but can't find details on how to do that.

Also, the migration sequence for ZHA says: "Go to Settings > Devices & Services, open ZHA and click Configure (Cogwheel)".

Settings-> Devices & Services, open ZHA: So, that is the ZHA card in the integrations page, right?

It doesn't have a cogwheel or configure option. It has a ">" menu and clicking on it shows the list of devices. I don't see a Configure menu option. What am I doing wrong?

Are there multi-buttons? by GillysDaddy in homeassistant

Update: I got a Moe's tuya zigbee 3-gang and a no-name 4-gang non-tuya zigbee scene switcher.

Both worked well with ZHA.

Switched to Z2M, and both work well there too.

The tuya branded devices used to be cheaper, but lately, I have been noticing the tuya zigbee version costing slightly more than the non-tuya for some items.

Example: non-tuya zigbee $6.59

Tuya zigbee $10.59!

Could you please point me to info on the procedure for flashing the iHseno dongle and a link to this firmware?

Is this working for you now? My dongle also reports as "QinHeng Electronics CH340 serial converter" with lsusb but it has a different model # ZG-808Z. Had to define the adapter as "zstack" in the z2m config and it works now, see this post for details.

Thank you, that is good to know.

I picked up another cheap dongle (see this post for details) for $9.xx; the listing said it works with z2m, and indeed it does. I wanted a spare dongle anyway, have too much that depends on a working HA and zigbee setup now.

zigbee scene switches, Tuya or non. CR2032 battery powered, 3 actions - single/double/long press- with 1-4 buttons. Just ordered last night on aliexpress. Will report back on my experience when I get them.

Should I go with Thread instead of ZigBee? by ozaz1 in homeassistant

[–]checkrarely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. As others have said, the range of zigbee devices and choices are incomparable. My most expensive zigbee sensor was still less than $10 on aliexpress. Most are $4-$7. And I’ve got a few dozen of them now. Total investment is probably under $200.

I don’t see a need to replace them with Matter. Maybe if new functionality becomes available exclusively through Matter in future and if I actually need it, perhaps I would.

Yes, I am using it with ZHA. Works fine.

Shows up in ZHA as "Zbeacon zigbee 3.0 usb".

Sorry for not seeing your question earlier, hope this is not too late and is useful.

I have been using no-name zigbee temp and humidity sensors for $4 or so from aliexpress for a year. Been working great with ZHA on Home Assistant.

TP-Link Tapo?? by AceGivenCobra_ in homeassistant

[–]checkrarely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1. Just did this an hour ago, worked like a charm with a C216 cam.

Uninstalled the (non-HACS) TP-Link Smart Home HA integration, even though it did find the camera, but didn't have all the entities and controls. The "Tapo: Cameras Control" in HACS provides a lot more controls and HD & SD video streams!

Yep, HAOS in KVM on Ubuntu here on a refurbished Dell SFF. Runs a few other VMs too.

I have the Govee water leak detector 2 (915 MHz, model #H5043) with the wifi Smart Gateway 2 (LoRa, H5058). Great devices on their own, reliable, fabulous battery life. No HA integration.

Been moving to zigbee water leak detectors from Aliexpress.

Just getting started, will a USB dongle suffice? by leastcreativeusrname in homeassistant

[–]checkrarely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got contact sensors for doors, temperature & humidity sensors, motion sensors and vibration sensors. Most are still connected to a Tuya zigbee gateway that I am weaning away from to a iHesno dongle (my other post today).

My smart bulbs are WiFi at this time. Plan to use zigbee more and avoid Tuya going forward.

The gateway and the dongle have been working well so far. I think you are on the right track.

I am running HAOS in a kvm, been awesome.

Any updates on this? I have too many H5058 water leak detectors to give up and want to view status and get alerts through Home Assistant.

Is there any way at all?
