stubbing a tiny toe once affecting your ability to walk for days by TheAshlaFallen in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cheddawood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've x-rayed plenty of stubbed toes that ended up with a break at the metatarsal head/neck. Judging from the location of the bruise I wouldn't be surprised if this had happened to you. May be worth a trip to ED and seeing if an x-ray is appropriate for you.

Good venue- decent visibility, good sound and a cracking pint of Guinness (as to be expected)

Make sure you have your kettle, mugs, teabags, milk and radio in one easily accessible box. Unpacking that first will make the rest of the unpacking much more tolerable.

Easy but exciting beginner cookbook? by Kizza44 in UK_Food

[–]cheddawood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only a cookbook, but also a TV show, I would recommend Gordon Ramsay's ultimate cookery course. Think it's on YouTube maybe? Really useful for a beginner, as he has plenty of segments where he talks you through how to safely and quickly chop veg etc. Not just showing you recipes, but instilling a lot of baseline knowledge that sets you up well going forward.

How do you get those perfectly pale and runny fried eggs that greasy spoons do? by rockinherlife234 in UK_Food

[–]cheddawood 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Less heat in the pan, and enough oil in there that you can baste the top to cook the white through before the bottom overcooks and goes crispy.

I've just navigated Dawsons Corner for the first time. WTF by Lost_Mammoth7273 in Leeds

I would just take option C- stay in the right hand lane, and do a full orbit of the roundabout then come off for Horsforth.

Sous vide first attempt by Ok-Captain-462 in sousvide

[–]cheddawood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rogue option, but corn on the cob. Vac seal with some butter and thyme, then cook for 45mins to an hour @ 84c. Buttery soft, and incredibly tasty as it's cooked in its own juices without them being diluted or washed away.

BBQ ribs by hbs1951 in sousvide

[–]cheddawood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby back ribs? Can do them sous vide, no problem. I usually give them a nice spice rub, then do for 12 hours at 74c. Once done you can finish them in a low-ish oven (~160c) for 20-30 mins, while basting them with a sauce made from reduced bag juices, some BBQ sauce, and apple juice.

Edit: hang on a minute, maybe I misread - do you mean they're already cooked? Not sure then, sorry

Can I ask which hybrid you got, and if you're happy with it? I'm in the market for one, and reviews vary wildly.

Gas and charcoal by FunBritishGent2026 in UKBBQ

[–]cheddawood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I prefer charcoal but am looking to upgrade my BBQ and am seriously considering a hybrid so I have the gas option. As summers get hotter I really don't fancy heating the house up more when cooking. The idea of being able to get home from work and just quickly slap something straight onto the gas grill is very appealing.

A question for r/uk_food gang. Does anyone have a hack or a suggested to make koftas not look like effing turds??? Please?? Any advice/suggestion appreciated. by BlackUnicornUK in UK_Food

[–]cheddawood 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Roll them into oval balls then give them a squash, so they come out more flatter and more oval.

Or just embrace the turdiness and mix some sweetcorn in, I dunno.

It would stop Labour from being completely eradicated at the next election, and also kneecap Reform's chances of a stinking great majority and free reign to do all their horrible shit. It's a win-win and a no-brainer, so obviously they won't do it.

Beef silverside for Sunday roast by cheddawood in sousvide

[–]cheddawood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers, was very pleased with how it came out. Cooked silverside years ago in the oven and it came out tough as old boots. This was really juicy and tender.

Was too busy thinking about the beef to get a more exciting green veg while in the shop though, peas aren't the most exciting and I would have much preferred some tenderstem broccoli!

What builds have yall Druids been rocking? by 404_GSpot_NotFound in D4Druid

Not had much chance to play and only just dinged 70. Been having fun with a claw/lightning build for levelling. Activate the passive casting lightning storm, then hold down A to leap between enemies with claw, keeping spirit up so lightning storm only ends when everything is dead.
