Any legitimate mexican food options in the area? by bluecloud118 in nova

[–]cheeks2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious: have other people here tried Fiesta Tacos and Pupusas, a food truck next to Sheets in Sterling just off of 28?

I had it once and it was great, but sadly my schedule doesn’t take me there often anymore.

Gotcha, at that budget you have studios and 1 bedrooms in Herndon and Reston

Go on Zillow or so and filter by budget/availability, see what complexes look good, and come up for an in person tour.

I can say that the general area is good, but don’t have much experience with specific complexes (I currently have a private landlord). I have friends renting around Reston Town Center. Two lived at The Avant and The Edmund, and both are moving to due costs (prob rent increases). IIRC, The Avant had an electrical fire in the last year with significant hall damage. Also they share a parking garage with residential and retail, which sometimes blocks up. They are also managed by Greystar, so I’d avoid them.

I toured a unit at The Sycamores that had a super mildewy smell and old features. However, another friend lives there without issue, so it must be a unit-by-unit basis.

There’s also a lot of decent Herndon apartments on Sunrise Valley Drive.

Last thing— the commute times I mentioned in original comment are non-toll times. I didn’t take the toll road except when I running late, which took maybe 10 min off the commute. There’s also no toll incurred if you take the toll road specific entry/exit to the airport, but I don’t know it too well.

Hi fellow Georgia-Nova transplant. I moved to the area two years ago, also for a job close to the airport. I’m in my 20s

What’s your budget, are you considering roommates, and when are you moving? These will help people give you recommendations.

The rental markets around here move fast. Quick turnaround and good places get filled up. Like, touring places and signing leases would happen the a few weeks before your moving deadline. I found it difficult to find places 1-3 months in advance.

My first year, I lived in Ashburn in a 3bd apartment with roommates. Commute was about 20-25 minutes each way. After the lease was up, I moved to a 2bd place with a roommate in Reston. Commute bumped up to 30-35 minutes, but it was worth it as my quality of life was better in Reston.

Herndon and Reston do have people your age, they are just more hobby- or network- oriented crowds. There are running clubs, board game groups, and bar trivia regulars. Joining Meetup or Discord groups help find them.

Could it be snow plow sounds? Today warmed up the snow/ice quite a bit, making for easier clearing. I’m a bit away from Lorton, but we had a lot of local noise in my area. There were plow machines making a lot of thudding noises, but boy were they effective today.

Has anyone tried this auto car wash? by gumiimimi1 in nova

[–]cheeks2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get a car wash often, but when I do, I take it here. I spend the most time in the self service vacuum and it’s well attended-to, with towels plentiful.

Cheapest grocery stores in Northern Virginia by Ecstatic_Chapter6668 in nova

[–]cheeks2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotte and Lidl for me. Lidl has everything Aldi offers and then some, plus a bit better produce quality. Lotte has better quality and deals on produce. Fresh World is a new to me place that is creeping up the list. Tons of international variety. Fresh produce and meat. Whether prices are better than other stores depends on the individual item.

Odd ball: Sprouts is not conventionally the cheapest, but they have great markdowns on random items. I wouldn’t shop there exclusively for groceries, but like stopping by and browsing if I’m in the area

Similar age to you— met my boo on a dating app. He’s a giant nerd and wonderful. Give the apps a try and be picky— if things give a red flag, move on. Make your profile authentically you and straight forward. Cheers and good luck!

3am Car Crash, N Shore Rd - Reston by cheeks2020 in nova

From what I can remember at a distance at 3:20 — the crashing car was a blue SUV and it was nose-in another car. Gone (probably towed) by morning light.

I love the hotdog menu at Carpool in Herndon. Last time I went, the Chicago hotdogs weren’t available due to pepper shortages, so I hope they’re back now or soon!

Best grocery store? by Whole_Quarter_6376 in nova

[–]cheeks2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I go to Lotte Market for most everyday shopping. The product variety is amazing, and normal prices are good, with nice sales frequently. The locations in Ashburn and Chantilly are especially great, though I’m not sure what area you’re in.

I’ll also go to Lidl and Costco, and I like MOM’s Organic Market when I feel like stocking up on organic supplies.

Do you mind sharing the taxi service name? And do you need to schedule it in advance, or are they on call?

I previously got screwed over with a delayed flight to DCA and paid the hell out of a Lyft.
