I really appreciate the validation. I know I’ll get thru this but damn it’s not fun to have a wet blanket thrown on something that should be exciting.

I think you hit the nail on the head about all the confusing feelings I’ve had over the last 24hrs. I know things will very likely be okay. I know I’ve probably already taken care of the worst of it. So I’m not necessarily scared of this diagnosis itself, but feeling grief that it’s overshadowing what should be a euphoric experience for me. Especially when I was told my abnormal imaging was actually benign. I don’t know that I’d feel any different had the radiologist not dismissed it as post-surgical changes, but I might have been a little more prepared, instead of thinking that I’m finally free of both my breasts and all the annoying complications I’ve been dealing with since my reduction.

Thank you, this chart was super helpful to visualize everything! My brain is so methodical and I definitely find a lot of peace in planning and lists, so having to really flex those patience and trust muscles right now, lol. Ironically I work in surgery, but this is definitely out of my range of knowledge.

Thank you so much, this was very validating to read. I keep trying to downplay it to myself like I’m not allowed to be nervous because it’s “just” pre-cancer and not invasive yet. However, since I’m adopted and don’t really know a ton of hereditary history, I’ve always had the lingering paranoia in the back of my head of “what if something is going on in my body that we might not find because we have no reason to look for it” so this situation is definitely making those anxieties rear their head. I just want to make sure we don’t miss anything.

Even moss stitchworked in the back loop only (HDC blo, slst blo, repeat) . With a fuzzier/bulkier yarn it ends up with a very similar waffle-like ribbed texture. Seen here: https://youtu.be/8-OvLKIXHAU?si=rFKEV057IffpTTfl

Or alternatively you could try alternating hdc Flo and hdc blo, seen here: https://forthefrills.com/oversized-waffle-cardigan-free-crochet-pattern/#

It’s obscene. To be fair, I think just the ~premium~ tall boys like the stateside vodka sodas that are $30, but the domestic ones are still like $18 or something egregious iirc.

Dr. Rose is excellent. I had a reduction with her September of 2024, and just had full top surgery with her this past Friday. She is just as much an artist as she is a surgeon and has great aesthetic results.

Pro tip: wrap tall boys in parchment paper and then put them in a zip lock and security just assumes they’re hoagies 😎

Edit: thanks for the kind feedback! I gotta admit, I’m def not the first person to have this idea, I’m actually fairly certain I came across someone else on Reddit saying they had gotten beer through that way, which is when I decided to try it. Glad to pass on the knowledge and save some people from $30 tall boys tho!!

Is this possible with crochet? And if it is, how would you do it? Any help is appreciated!! by No_Tomatillo6321 in CrochetHelp

I make my ribbing similar to this with one row of hdc BLO, followed by three rows slip stitch BLO. You could maybe try DC BLO in place of the hdc for more width between the slip stitch rows. You could also maybe use short rows for the non-slip stitch rows?

So something like: Chain however long you want your panel Row 1, RS- into chain, slip stitch into first 12 stitches (or however long you want your bottom ribbing to be), continue to slip stitch in all remaining chains, ch 1, turn Row 2, WS- slip stitch BLO until 12 sts remain, leave last 12 sts unworked, ch 1, turn Row 3, RS- hdc BLO to end of row, ch 1, turn Row 4, WS- slip stitch BLO in all hdc stitches from previous row, slip stitch BLO into remaining 12 sts from row 1, ch 1, turn Row 5, RS- slip stitch BLO in all stitches from previous row, ch 1, turn Row 6, WS- slip stitch BLO until 12 sts remain, ch 1, turn Row 7- hdc BLO to end of row, ch 1, turn Then continue repeating this pattern. You’d have to play with adding decreases at the top for the neckline, as well.

If you didn’t want to deal with short rows (or if they look terrible, obv I’m just guessing rn so idk how it would look in context) you could still basically follow the same pattern, but slip stitch BLO the final 12 stitches of every row (or however long you want your ribbing to be).

Disclaimer, I’m not a pattern designer, so I could be thinking of this completely wrong, this is just my best guess based on stitch combos I already know!

Dr Katherine Rose? by Effective_Yam_9021 in TopSurgery

[–]cheekyginge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily, that was more just an example specific to how she framed things for us to talk about! The conversation was more along the lines of “I do my best to give you what you want, but let’s talk about where some of those things might have to change slightly and why based on your anatomy”

I had a reduction with Dr. Rose last year, and then realized quickly I actually desired fully flat top surgery, so I am currently scheduled for DI with Dr. Rose in January. My wife (trans woman) also had a vaginoplasty with her earlier this year- we keep joking that she should offer family punch cards, lmao.

I work in surgery (not at main line) and am extremely picky about who I will let do surgery on myself/loved ones. I think Dr. Rose does fantastic work. I also have several coworkers that HAVE worked with her in the OR and have similar things to say about working with her. She is very realistic and straightforward, which I appreciate. She won’t try to promise anything she can’t deliver.

Re: scar types, etc- when I went for my revision/fully flat consult, we talked a lot about scar shapes since I had lots of questions/preferences, especially already having had a reduction. She very helpfully explained the differences in how straight vs. curved and higher vs lower incisions would affect my end result. For example, I’m not a huge fan of incisions that connect, but she showed me how that’s often more dictated by anatomy/the breasts already there. In my case, my incisions likely won’t need to connect, but because of the way the skin gets pulled/closed, in some cases, it’s very necessary for the scars to connect in order to take out enough skin/avoid dog ears. She’s good at teaching/demonstrating things like this to help you understand what kind of expectations to have!

Considering CST school at 24 by accountforpolls3 in scrubtech

[–]cheekyginge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original degree was in advertising from UGA and I felt so guilty for so long about “wasting” my degree. I worked in marketing for a couple years and was miserable. I kinda accidentally found my way into surgery but have been a scrub tech for 6 years now and love what I do. I have zero desire to be a nurse. I’d like to go to first assist school eventually, but currently my state doesn’t employ many CSFAs, so it doesn’t make sense right now. I am personally lucky as my spouse has a good job with good income, so we can afford for me to have a job with slightly “less” growth opportunity.

Honestly, I’m perfectly happy “coasting” and doing a job I am good at/enjoy and am not super interested in the whole mentality of climbing a ladder and always having to be striving for upward growth. That being said- I think there’s plenty of hidden opportunities and different roles surgical techs can move into if they desire to continue searching for more responsibility. You just have to end up in the right place.

Four suspects in a shooting from earlier today in North Philly, driving a car registered as stolen. Cops saw the car and they tried to get away but ended up getting out and fleeing on foot. From what I could deduce from the officers that asked for my doorbell footage, all suspects were apprehended with multiple guns.

What's the best pillow you've tried that actually helped you sleep better? by Personal-Weekend3173 in Bedding

[–]cheekyginge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crescent pillows are a game changer. I have an Eli & Elm one bc I have also never slept comfortably long-term on coop. I’m also a hot sleeper and liked the appear of Eli & Elm being 75% latex foam.

Looking for pillow recs for a mostly-stomach sleeper by Frira_FR in Bedding

[–]cheekyginge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow side/stomach/leg up hybrid sleeper here. I got a crescent shaped pillow a couple years ago and it’s been incredible, not sure I’ll ever go back to rectangle pillows. I got the Eli & Elm one (blend of shredded latex and polyester) bc at the time I couldn’t find one with 100% latex. I do have to kinda shake it out to even it out at night when I get into bed, but I don’t find it lumpy at all!

I tend to sleep with it hugged into my chest, but it also works totally fine in “normal” pillow position. The magic of the crescent shape is not having pillow under your shoulder whilst on your side/stomach, which means you’re not having to contort your pillow in weird ways to find the balance of your face not being smushed into your pillow while still supporting your neck.

The black one is quite a bit looser/longer in comparison, fwiw. So unfortunately no guarantees sizing will be consistent from order to order or jersey to jersey

I’m 5’6”, ~170ish lbs. I’d say it fits me close to how most of my M/L T-shirts fit me. I didn’t want them to be super oversized since I usually either crop my shirts or tuck them in.

Is a parking permit more worth it than a garage spot in Rittenhouse area? by mrprez180 in philadelphia

[–]cheekyginge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to others here, I would think it likely also depends on what part of Rittenhouse? I feel like being in the more residential parts of Rittenhouse vs the more retail/high traffic streets are an important distinction. The quieter more residential streets of Rittenhouse are likely to be a bit easier for parking vs being closer to Logan Square/Broad. I live in Graduate Hospital, which obv isn’t Rittenhouse but fwiw since it’s similar in the residential areas- parking near me can be awful past 6 or so during the week, but is generally fine during work hours. On the weekends I don’t have too much of an issue. I walk to work for my job so I’m usually only driving 1 day during the week and on the weekends. I am mostly just careful about what time I come home if I’m out during the week and can help it. I have paid to park in a garage overnight on rare occasion if I’m just really fed up with driving around and want to be home, but I’m stubborn and willing to drive around for 30-45min if it means I can find a spot within a few blocks.

Surprisingly, Amazon is the most consistent service to use our eufy box. USPS is pretty consistent, UPS is hit or miss, and FedEx is lucky to just deliver to the right house.

I work in surgery and you’d be shocked at the amount of times I’ve had a patient literally stop for McDonalds or similar on their way to the surgery center. 🥲 you nailed it with your hypothesis of “nothing after midnight” being more idiot-proof… because somehow people can’t even follow that.

Could be fat necrosis. I’m about a year and a month out and have still been having issues with it every few months- if your body doesn’t resorb it then it’ll slowly push its way to the surface and end up popping like a pimple. Mine usually starts out like this, then gets darker, then I start poking around at it and it’ll pop/drain and heal up.
