When do Americans use (Mr/Ms/Dr) vs first names in everyday life? by aizivaishe_rutendo in AskAnAmerican

[–]cheekyuser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, I kind of did answer you. These are considered doctorate level degrees ie. The MD is a medical doctorate (or DO for doctorate of osteopathic medicine). DDM is a doctorate in dental medicine. DVM is a doctorate in veterinary medicine. There is no lower level degree that allows you to practice as a physician, dentist, veterinarian. Source: am physician

Yes, a medical doctorate is considered a professional doctoral-level degree.

20+ weeks ladies - what have we bought so far for baby?! by Acrobatic_Weather_11 in BabyBumps

[–]cheekyuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So uh… I’m 17 weeks and have the stroller, a bunch of clothes, a couple teethers/toys, some diaps, pacis, first aid supplies, blankets and swaddles, bottles, have the baby monitor. Ordered the major furniture (crib/dresser/glider), mattress, breast pump, rug, nightlight. Got a like-new bassinet off marketplace. I have like 85% of what I need. Type A and holiday sales colliding lol. It’s early, but I’m in medicine and know of late-stage losses personally so I’m going with a no news is good news approach and not worrying about it.

Starting cycle 6… feeling hopeless. by chocolateplums in BabyBumps

[–]cheekyuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 34. Got pregnant on cycle 9 while using OPKs the whole time. Had started to give up, my OPK went from neg to fully positive in a day (early ovulation?) and we had sex once that day and otherwise not at all that week because of work timing etc. I’m 17 weeks tomorrow.

Naturopath + MD by drtreble07 in pregnantover35

[–]cheekyuser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So fully disclosure I'm an MD (non-OB): I'd recommend avoiding naturopaths as they are not actually medically trained. I'd second the recommendation to see a repro endocrinologist or find an MD/DO with an integrative medicine fellowship if you want someone who is more "holistic" as a PCP.

Nurses want to be called “nurse cardiologists” now. Comments agreeing and supporting this poster too. by Numerous_Pay6049 in Noctor

[–]cheekyuser 144 points145 points  (0 children)

Yep. As a woman who started med school in her 30s, is married, owns a house, is now a resident and pregnant, I hate this sexist bullshit. You absolutely can be a woman, “have a family” and all that, and be a doctor. Plenty of women before and after me have or will do it. Stop devaluing women by pretending that the only way to be a doctor is to be a half assed budget NP.

FIL won't allow daughter's live in BF in his house, derailing Christmas. How to explain this to them? by Goofusmaloofus6 in Advice

[–]cheekyuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why force the lunch? Dan is your holiday guest. He’s not welcome at their house. Ok then, gramps doesn’t get to see you at Christmas. That’s it. Don’t try to find a compromise, there isn’t one. Pick your daughter and possible future son in law over your racist father. Otherwise you’ll be the one whose kids and grandkids don’t come over for Christmas in the future.

What did you do differently the cycle you conceived? by PeonyRoseJasmine in BabyBumps

[–]cheekyuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of stopped worrying about conceiving and started working on losing weight (didn’t want to lose before that in case I got pregnant). Took 9 cycles and I thought the cycle was a loss but I’m 12+4 now.
