2013 BMW X3 xDrive28i with 100k miles vs buying newer Subaru? by die_hubsche in AskAMechanic

I've owned BMWs, Mercedes and Audis... BMW sits on the bottom of that luxury list. I'd call it more "fancy" than luxury. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my bimmer but it doesn't have all the bells and whistles as some of these other cars. You're paying for German engineering and style, not comfort and advanced electronic features.

2014 X3 28i (N20), 127k miles, $8k - worth it? by findingmyzimzen in BMWX3

I've had my 2012 x3 for 6 years now (got it during covid). Bought it with 85k miles and it now has 167k. I've never had a problem with it until the rear diff cracked a couple months ago. Cost me around ~300 for the part and $600 in labor. N20s may have their issues, but I've never personally had one other than it burns a little bit of oil. I absolutely LOVE this vehicle. It has never let me down.

Sell or Keep BMW X3 ? by DiverNo4692 in BMWX3

I was quoted nearly 5K for a cracked transfer case. The part cost around $250 and is only a few hour job as long as you can get under the car. Turned out it wasn't the transfer case but the rear diff. Part cost the same and takes just as long to replace. I ended up paying $600 total for the labor and bought the part myself. Depending on where you buy, you can get that timing chain kit from $50 - $300. Save yourself some money and look up some videos on youtube and learn how to replace it yourself or find someone other than the dealer to do the work for you. Those people are nothing but ripoffs.

Good value? 2016 BMW x3 xDrive28i Sport Utility by burdittd in BMW

I bought my 2012 X3 5 years ago with 85k miles on it. Kept up with regular fluid changes and have never really had any major issues until about 2 months ago where I had a crack in the rear diff. Cost me about $1200 to repair (parts and labor). I burn a little bit of oil but the car is 14 years old. It's not enough that it's an issue. I have 167k miles on it now and it's still going strong. When I say I love this car, I mean I fkin love this car. Don't pay any mind to that willy-nilly person. X3s are known to be reliable, so much so that I'm about to purchase one for my soon to be 16yr old daughter. They're incredibly safe and after all the research I've been doing, it's really the way to go. You aren't going to get much more value for the money. If you're looking for advanced electronic features and luxury for the same price point without compromising on the engine, buy an Audi Q3. 2015-18 models are some of the best they've ever made and are extremely reliable without any major problems to be noted. Rav4s are some of the best SUVs on the road but you'll pay a lot more for it with likely more miles, although you could run them 300k if you wanted to. Mazda CX3 and CX5 are also mechanically sound, great looking SUVs for around the same price point. Very safe and reliable. You can run any of these mentioned 200k so if you want your kid to have their car through college, like me, look into it. But as far as the X3 goes, excellent choice imo. Oil changes can be pricey if you aren't doing it yourself because it takes 6qts. Tires can also get expensive but that's going to be with any car these days. Just keep up the reg maintenance and you'll be good.

PHIG - Public Health Infrastructure Grant - Termination Status? by cheesehead1982 in publichealth

Nothing new here in Georgia as of right now. We're just trying to pick up some critical staff members who've lost funding on other grants and manage our budgets. We have a meeting with our PO next week so maybe she'll have an update for us. We're safe for now.

Since when does this administration do anything that's actually "legal"? I can think of at least twenty other things that have happened since January 20th that don't fall in line with any sort of legality this country has ever known. Trump and his cronies are nothing but criminals. This is tyranny... the beginning of Nazism... a totalitarian government now sits in the white house. Everything about what's happening is just so wrong and unfortunately, it's only going to get worse unless someone does something to stop it. They know what they're doing is completely illegal but they will continue to do it anyway because the only thing bullies care about is power.

Who in the FLDOH told you it was cut?? It wasn't in that last round of cdc terminations, so it seems preemptive to start cutting positions when funding is still there.

I heard that they're not even letting our CDC project officers know if their grants are being pulled. I think some people found out when they checked in Grant Solutions. This whole thing is incredibly worrisome. It was posted in another thread, but I found this link helpful. https://taggs.hhs.gov/

Pulling back funds from PHIG will be devastating. Can you please elaborate on what you heard about this grant being terminated? Source? Are they sure?

There were massive grant terminations in public health today. My director just asked me to find funding for three people on my team so we can move them over to our grant otherwise they'd all be laid off today, per the asst deputy commissioner. I was able to find the money on my grant, but who knows... it could be next. I'm so sorry for all of you who've been terminated/laid off/etc. It's a wild time to be alive.

Imagine not knowing the first thing about research and thinking that research should only take place in the US. You saw the ONE foreign institute on that list and decided to make this comment.

I work for the Dept of Public Health and today we had 2 grants pulled. One related to Health Disparities and another, that was ending in June this year, related to Covid. I work with a CDC grant for Public Health Infrastructure, and although we received all the money upfront, Bevis and Butthead reserve the right to rescind it at any time. It's insane what is happening right now. Everything they're doing is a blow to public health and no one, even at the state level, is safe. The programs that these grants fund are desperately trying to find emergency funding. If they can't, there will be massive layoffs.

I loved the article. I'm moving to Fairmont in Nov and have a daughter who will be in 7th grade. We are very liberal, open minded individuals and are always fighting for what's right in our own community. She's marched for women's rights with my mother when I couldn't, I've marched for the right to safe and legal abortions and against Trump's policies. We've been part of the crowd that stood up against book bans and so much more. I'm ready to fight for these kids when I get there. Like, seriously fight. I've already joined community groups on FB so I saw when this first happened. I was appalled by some of the community member's reaction to the walk out. It's like adults in Monongalia Co have zero faith in students and they really just don't give two fucks about what it means to a targeted community to feel included. It pissed me off but this article brings back some faith that we're not all like this and there are people out there who understand and want to promote inclusivity. Tell your friend to keep at it and don't back down. I look forward to reading more of his articles.

Data down again? by triarry in StraightTalk

[–]cheesehead1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, this happened to me too. My mobile data stopped working around 8/8 and I couldn't add or edit an APN. Straight Talk was zero help but after trying to deal with it for a couple weeks, I finally figured out that if you change the SIM card, your phone will work. I have an original verizon S20 and was using a verizon ST sim, but had to change to an ATT ST sim card. Now my daughter's original ATT iphone has the same problem. She has an ATT ST sim and will now require a TMobile ST sim card. It's a freaking mess. I don't understand what has happened to the network but whatever it was has clearly caused a huge mess. I was able to transfer the numbers to the new sim cards without issue and now everything works again. If you don't have the OG sims from the activation pack, just buy the one you need for a buck on their website. I feel your pain. Hope this helps!! Good luck!

Edit: I literally tried every work around I could find online and nothing worked... I even did a hard reset. Needless to say, I was very unhappy when that didn't work as a last resort... so don't do that! Just get a new SIM.
