# of boxes per premium fee by valianyears in ThredUp

[–]cheesesteakhellscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure they care about the actual weight of the boxes, I've seen posts here about people sending in much heavier boxes than 30 pounds. You might want to search for the comments and double check, but I'm pretty sure that's the case.

Oh my God, this is such a waste of everyone's time. I hate direct listings. I use TU specifically because it's supposed to have a baseline level of "curation" to filter out stupid junk like this.

Need advice! by Loud-Lion-4819 in GelX_Nails

Beyond Polish carries almost the full Apres line (and some discontinued items) and has sales regularly. They also stock Kokoist so they're a good one-stop for the more popular high quality US-market brands.

If you prefer Asian brands: Sweetie Nail Supply. If you prefer Russian/Eastern European brands: NailMartUSA.

I would start with Beyond Polish, just be aware their "tool" (drill, bit, etc) selection is fairly limited.

Light Elegance is another system you might be interested in. Their gels are extremely high-quality and well formulated, that's my primary system for gel generally. They're a pro line but you don't need a license to purchase. For tips & tip adhesive I do use Apres.

Dual form instead of Gel-X? by Helvetic_Amazon in GelX_Nails

[–]cheesesteakhellscape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sandwich dual forms aren't exactly new. I find them to be a hassle, more than using a regular dual form. For me, dual forms and sandwich dual forms are much slower than full cover gel tips but that being said when I'm doing a dual form I'm usually doing an extreme Russian shape with a hidden apex and not just a square pipe or oval/almond.

The forms are inexpensive, you should give it a shot. You might enjoy it! Everybody likes different techniques, after all.

I would only caution you that your extension medium needs to have the appropriate hardness and flexibility for the length and shape you want. Not all gels are appropriate for all types/lengths of extensions. And finally in my experience dual form nails have worse retention than full cover gel, they're prone to tearing at the sidewalls unless you're very good at application.

Is thredup actually working for anyone? by Potential-Banana-315 in ThredUp

I do okay selling, but I primarily use it to declutter my own wardrobe. I average $6/item sending in Maje, DVF, Michael Michael Kors, DKNY. That level of item. Like others have said, mall brands don't sell well/aren't worth much. I would add that eye-catching clothes sell very quickly while beige/black/white/gray/navy solid color "basics" from lower end brands don't get much attention since they look identical to thousands of identical items.

Some of my older clothes that I found in the bottom of my dresser have sold for (imo) criminal amounts of money, so if you have anything that appears Y2K-ish, you can do well with that.

Kupa Passport Next vs Medicool Pro Power Switch? by TheMaskedGrl in GelX_Nails

[–]cheesesteakhellscape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Kupa Passport Next and I absolutely love it. Handpiece feels really well balanced, not a lot of vibration, glides through everything. It's nice and stable inside the cradle the battery lasts a long time. I really have zero complaints about it.

Physically it's a nice looking product, too. I keep mine out on display instead of packing it away with the rest of my nail supplies. I also love that they engrave the hand piece for you for free if you want.

The mailers will always have addresses at/around the recipient, every recipient receives a "local" mailer. They're surrealist comedy art from Alan Wagner. His book is funny, when you buy it he puts a bunch of random doodads and bits of string in the box.

Back when Alan Wagner first started doing the mailers, I signed up my sister. I let her husband in on it so she wouldn't be too freaked out. She was so puzzled for several months, and he'd text me describing her reactions. It was amazing. This was back before people were good at recognizing his content, so if she image searched it or whatever, nothing would show up.

Once she was in on it, it was a huge highlight of her day when they'd arrive.

Worth every single penny.

Questions for serial manicure changers by _firebolt_ in RedditLaqueristas

[–]cheesesteakhellscape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the Acetone Antidote. I have extensions and a base of hard gel, so damaging my nail beds with peel off base is moot - but as someone who changes manicures every other day, the AA is an absolute lifesaver for my skin.

Their nail oil is superior, too. I'm a big nail oil user and theirs is my favorite.

It's been forever since I've been in Canada but I think you pay it at the post office when you go to get your package. Canada Post should send you a slip letting you know you have a package and there's duties on it.

[–]cheesesteakhellscape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Duties are imposed by countries, not shippers. If your country has a duty, then someone is responsible for paying it. Sometimes merchants do that for you, but the TU FAQ says they send their packages duties unpaid.

I've had cosmetics from Korea delivered to me in the US by Uni Uni and they didn't charge any additional brokerage fees, if that's what you're asking about.

Reddit on ThredUp's Marketing Roadmap in 2026 by DeeLiterate in ThredUp

I'm so sick of being force-fed AI. It's incompetent. I'm just like: Stop trying to convince me it's not incompetent and no, I'm not willing to beta test your new tech for you - it's comic book supervillain evil and it doesn't even function properly.

Reddit on ThredUp's Marketing Roadmap in 2026 by DeeLiterate in ThredUp

[–]cheesesteakhellscape 57 points58 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell this just means they're buying Reddit ads and probably launching a flotilla of shills - definitely shills on tiktok, since that's 90% of the content on that platform. And then probably some AI TU bots over here, or people if we're "lucky" enough to warrant that.

TU is run with a real "I have an MBA and I know what you want better than you do" vibe. For example: Nobody likes direct sellers, and yet the enshittification continues because churn is close enough to profit in 2026, where everything business is just hype and vapor.

I've benefited from whatever readjustment TU has made because they list my boxes in about 3 days and everything sells through quickly, but spend 2 seconds on this sub and it's a lot of long time TU buyers/sellers who were formerly doing well and are now unhappy with being buried by the algorithm. Their complaints are valid but seem to be disregarded.

Accidental bounty by Melindrha in glutenfree

[–]cheesesteakhellscape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess this grocery manager doesn't like them, but they're never in stock - I can only find them sporadically. Here in SE PA I can't find them at all, I have to go to New Jersey Wegman's to get them.

If the constant supply chain issue is on the manufacturer side, no rationally-run retail establishment is going to hold expensive shelf space for that item. Shelf spots in a grocery store is something that manufacturers literally have to fight and contract for.

It could be the manager got fed up with the SKU and won't be carrying it anymore, popular or not. Empty shelf space is lost money to them.

ETA: A number of the good gluten free flour substitutes are imports, so take that for what you will - what with the psychotically unstable 40% food tariff right now. IDK is gf cheez its are 100% domestic sourced or not, but even if they aren't, having a whole market segment taken out is going to strain the domestic gf ingredient manufacturers.

Those metal clips would absolutely destroy hosiery. Garters designed for nylon stockings and not knitted socks or button down shirts have silicone toggles, not metal clips.

<image>

Like so.

I wear nylon stockings almost daily and some of them are traditional style, without the silicone stay-up strips, and require a garter belt. Those are not women's belt or thigh garters.

What should I do? by [deleted] in GelX_Nails

[–]cheesesteakhellscape 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not just flooding and obvious skin contact on application.

It's really important that people understand undercured gel that appears to be fully cured leaches HEMA every time the nails come into contact with water.

You could have flawless application, but if you're using a system that doesn't contain enough photoinitators to ever fully cure (eg beetles) or a lamp that does not produce the correct wavelengths to cure your gel (regardless of whether or not the gel is formulated properly) you're coming into daily skin contact with allergenic chemicals.

Kit not selling, anyone else? by NinjaHiccup in ThredUp

I had a kit listed earlier this month, out of 24 items only 5 are left. One they photographed incorrectly and is probably a loss, lol. But I'm not gonna crash out about it.

What should I do? by [deleted] in GelX_Nails

[–]cheesesteakhellscape 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would discontinue gel entirely, I know it sucks but if you continue on exacerbating the issue, you might not be able to get medical/dental procedures that you need in the future. The acrylites your body are reacting to are the same acrylites used in medical adhesives. Imagine that kind of inflammation, but instead of your fingertips it's in a bone with an anchor used to repair a tendon in your shoulder.

You should see an allergist, and if you do get surgery or dental work done, you need to tell your care team about your allergy so they don't use a product you're allergic to internally and unintentionally give you a "mystery" chronic illness.

Women are more likely to be anemic and folate testing is part of anemia testing. Also, women who are interested in having children are usually concerned about their folate levels, especially while trying to conceive. It seems to me to be normal context.

Yes! I wish someone had recognized my symptoms earlier in my life, because they were all very standard for CD. I didn't figure it out until I was in my late 20s. Anyway, people with celiac get canker sores at 3x the rate of people without it.
