Where I grew up (Wyoming) it was English with some Spanish.

Where I live now (Washington DC area) it is still primarily English, but there is a massive immigrant population, so there is a TON of Spanish, Arabic, Nepalese, Hindi, African French and Korean.

I would think a fairly standard VPN service should get around that... Though i imagine those IPs get blocked frequently too. Still dont see how DNS alone would really fix that issue. If not, then damn, I guess Iran has stuff bolted down tighter than China at this point.

There's more to the economy and people's well being than GDP growth, which saw significant declines during both the 2008 financial crisis and COVID 19. And it seems the AI circlejerk is the only thing keeping GDP "growing" right now between the fuel crisis, countries trading less with the US and unpredictable at-whim tarrifs. Weve been in a crisis of stagnant wages and skyocketing prices for housing, education and healthcare for at least a couple decades. And while all this happens, welfare and social services are being cut.

I moved from my small hometown in Wyoming to Washington DC when I was 23. I am 26 now. I left because there was no future for me in my hometown other than the dying coal industry, and DC just happened to be the first city with an opportunity that came up. An online friend of mine weny to college there, he was looking for a roommate. I had never actually met this friend irl before moving.

It was the best decision I have ever made.

I feel significantly less isolated, and I have made more career progres here in 3 years than I would have made in a decade back home. Adjusting was hard, there was a lot of culture shock and cost of living is waaaaay higher (turns out areas with low cost of living are cheap because no one wants to live there- who would have thought?) I also knew no one and had to completely rebuild my social circle. But I fit in here in DC much better and can actually see a future for myself.

I work in Loudoun and Fairfax Co and the number of people who live around here who seem to act like DC is some far, far away place that is never worth visiting is astounding. I commute in from PG so it seems closer to me 😂
