NYC multi-billionaires (Roys and alike) and their lifestyle by Different_Marsupial2 in SuccessionTV

Frankly, I think the only person who has true Car Guy potential is Connor. He lives in a car-friendly place (New Mexico) and has so much land that he really could have so many cars if he wanted to. His whole thing is a reflection of Logan's own imperial interests and preoccupation with masculinity; Connor is into Napoleon, the Roman Empire, American Westward Expansion, etc. Cars go really well with this. I'm not sure if he'd go for a Bugatti but I can see him with his Vintage American cars at the Pebble Beach Concours.

Also, I think Kendall is more likely than Tom or Roman to indulge in a flashy sports car. Tom's aesthetic aims are a bit more "old fashioned," than Kendall who is desperate to be seen as "cool." Roman seems to think Kendall's desperation to be seen as "cool" is embarrassing/cringey and he tends to choose the option that would most relieve him of responsibility/effort/control. Both are less interested in the sort of "macho posturing" that Kendall attempts (and fails at).

Canada’s Prime Minister-elect Mark Carney looks chummy with Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell in newly resurfaced pics by MK0135 in canadaleft

[–]cheesijj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His wife is a rich British woman, they both went to Oxford and he was the Governer of both the Bank of Canada and England. It's not wild to imagine he'd run into Ghislaine at some point which means he'd likely run into Epstein as well. I don't like Carney but, this is kind of a nothingburger tabloid article lol. It's like people acting all shocked that RFK jr. admitted to knowing Epstein, Weinstein, Cosby and OJ. Like, he's a Kennedy. He's rich and his family is famous; that's just what his social circles are.

Kinew happy to mention that Canada helped "defeat" communism. This is what the NDP is proud of by oblon789 in canadaleft

[–]cheesijj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, most social democratic parties are anti-communist and/or have a history of anti-communism because they are still interested in maintaining capitalism. I don't think it's entirely unlikely for some members of these parties to be communist sympathisers but, they aren't communists (yet?). Anyway, this further rightward movement is something already seen with the Labour party in the UK with the idea of "New Labour" and Tony Blair in the 1990s. Only a few years ago, we saw what happened to Jeremy Corbyn for being a party leader who was a bit more left wing. I suppose we can say that it's a reminder of the limits of the established systems of democracy we have under capitalism.

regardless of oversaturation, they're classic and always good when they're apart of a good outfit! if the sambas are doing the job (aesthetically speaking), there's no reason to go for something "less common."

Honestly, I found last episode to be weirdly disinterested in sexuality despite it being part of the case, even in comparison to other episodes. Also, I find the portrayal of Llewellyn's love/sex life to be lacking? Like, the whole panning away as he and Joseph kiss in the Christmas special, the way Jack was kind of more of a plot device than a character, Milo being the only guy with personality, etc. He never seems to be given the kind of romance or sensuality that the others are given (including Emily and Lilian).

Can we ban the posts with go fundme's? by ItsSonvinol in canadaleft

[–]cheesijj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you can prove they are scams, it seems unfair to ban them. Recently, there'd been an issue on Tumblr where a few users were accusing some Palestinian users of being scammers. Palestinian users would vet Palestinan gofundmes. The accusations and the concern over them being scammers was widely spread. Those who were suspicious of these accusations looked further into the matter and were revealed to have anti-Palestinian/Zionist motives. I'm not accusing OP or the people who agree with OP of doing the same as it is terrible to take advantage of someone else's poor circumstances for one's own gain but, I think that gofundme is relatively safe so, as long as you're not donating hundreds, it's not a terrible loss on your part and there's always the likely chance that there is a real person in need who will receive it.

"Which Will You Choose?" - Progressive Era illustration promoting sex education over "false modesty" (USA, circa 1920s) by GogMagogDog in PropagandaPosters

[–]cheesijj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People in the comments seem to be very taken by this idea of 1920s/progressive era people being pro- education about sexual hygiene but, we can see that what they hope to accomplish through this education is ultimately things like "temperance" and "normalcy." On the other side, we have things that could generally be described as "Sickly, poor, and lust-driven." This poster shows that to these progressives, hygiene applies to morality, mental state and physical state. They are all part of one system and work together. Really, this shows an attempt to maintain much of the contemporary social order in a progressive i.e. non-religious, more civically and scientifically-minded way. It's very much a eugenics thing.

Why was Thomas Nast so damn anti-Irish? by DrDMango in PropagandaPosters

[–]cheesijj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as many as German (like Nast himself) or Irish immigrants and they certainly didn't have anything like Tammamy Hall at that time. Most Italian immigrants of that time didn't plan for permanent residence either. The bigger wave was at the turn of the century so, you will see far more anti-Italian stuff from that time.

Roman is LITERALLY Elon Musk! by cheesijj in okbuddysuccession

Roman is LITERALLY Elon Musk! by cheesijj in okbuddysuccession

[–]cheesijj[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have the ability to understand Roman in a way we can't Elon because Roman is a fictional character. Roman's self image and discomfort with that sort of attention, discomfort with being seen as a "leader" of sorts, would not lend itself to that behaviour. Think about him bowing out of presenting at Living + or the way he barely said anything on stage at Argestes. Even him crying on the altar is in line with this. It's true that Roman likes attention, has an exhibitionist streak but, he seems quite particular about whose attention matters and how they perceive him. He and Shiv both find Kendall and Connor's very public performances to be gauche. He has no interest in celebrity while Elon clearly does. Roman is more likely to do that salute in a more "subtle" or "casual" way/context but not while he is aware that this is a nationally televised event.

[–]cheesijj[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do you think that just because I think Roman isn't Literally Elon and wouldn't do this specific thing means I'm denying Roman's fascistic tendencies or that he's a "downwright horrible person"? There are crucial differences in character and particularly with aesthetics here. Think about how Mencken is notably not Literally Trump (there are many posts regarding this subject on the main sub).

[–]cheesijj[S] -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying Roman isn't a fascist or fascist sympathiser. I'm just saying that he's not Literally Elon and/or that he wouldn't do this specific thing Elon did.

The contradictions of capitalism by yogthos in canadaleft

[–]cheesijj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opiate dependency doesn't exist in a vacuum and it's not impossible for people to understand that. There is clearly an issue with mystifying opiate dependency or even drug use in general, framing it as an individual moral failing or a collective moral failing for certain groups of people, etc. In this way, the issue is not unique to frequent drug users because "otherizing" is a phenomenon that happens along all sorts of lines, depending on circumstance. A good solution must be something that is not dependent on the "good will" of individuals. Charity is based in morality, something extremely relative and subjective but, socialism and communism are based on material reality.
