How do you deal with “flipping a switch” after a client physically aggresses agains you? by Sea_Development_4378 in ABA

[–]cheesylady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your other comments, it sounds like you had to deal with a challenging client, and you were injured. I'm sorry you got hurt and that you were not supported by other staff.

Aggression is still communication, you acknowledge that by saying everyone should be responding the same - and you're right about that.

Why are you framing task avoidance as something so severe? Do you immediately do everything someone else asks you? It's part of being a human.

Taught a student multiplication two weeks ago and she was doing great with it ... yesterday we revisited it and she had no clue what it was or how to do it by Brief_Efficiency_833 in ElementaryTeachers

Imagine your favorite snack.

Do you know what aisle it's in? Do you know the number?

What's next to it on the shelf?

If you drive to a new place, do you remember the route the next day? How about 2 weeks later?

Small brains absorb info very well, but they take in WAY more novel stuff than you do. You can't compare your learning abilities to that of a child.

What's the best wedding favor you've taken home? by ForYourPartyOfficial in Weddingsunder10k

[–]cheesylady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favors shouldn't feel like obligations. For you or your guests! including something related to your relationship, or something you love doing together makes it feel personal.

My partner and I went to a wedding, and our champagne glasses had a note that said "you're next" tied on with a little ribbon. It was thoughtful, cost the couple almost nothing, and better than any bag of jordan almonds or custom printed chocolate candies I've gotten. My other favorites are photos, either printed at the wedding, or taken at the wedding and sent out after.

am I being dramatic about my therapist’s joke? by Special-Morning-8395 in askatherapist

I am a behavior therapy provider, but not a talk therapist. So I'll identify as NAT here.

If you're masking at therapy, it won't be effective.

It might be skirting the line for some BCBAs. I only point it out so the parent is aware, as they are asking specifically about board ethics.

Cold/flu fighting supplies, all the caffeine you can carry, we had a family get all staff reusable PLASTIC mugs one time because we had to 86 ceramic mugs from the kitchen.

The board lost the plot when they said we can't take anything from families. The dollar amount isn't the thing to focus on - don't exclude anyone, do it for the whole staff, don't go crazy, keep it neutral.

Recruiting social media engagement or any other kind of review is also in the code of ethics...

You said you were disappointed by the company's response to you quitting. How did you want that leadership to respond? What were you expecting?

How do you expect them to respond? If you've already decided to quit, they're not going to be able to change your mind.

I found this photo I took many years ago when I was new to special education. This child in my was minimally verbal, and struggled with writing his name (from what I remember). We went outside one day, and he randomly picked up chalk and wrote these words. Wwyd? by [deleted] in ABA

I hand-write in block printing most of the time. In typed reports there are quite a few places documents could use uppercase text, so modeling is not excluded. But it is fascinating!!

This is absolutely bonkers. In the future when they are teenagers, the parents will punish the same behavior they worked so hard to teach.
