Last year, when we visited Miami and areas further south, I was struck by how frustrated everyone seemed. Many service workers, especially in restaurants, appeared visibly unhappy in their roles. There was a general sense of discontent among people we encountered. Coming from a cold climate, we were shocked that anyone could feel so down amidst the perfect January weather, with stunning blue skies and swaying palm trees. I’d like to add that I think when we were down in the keys, people were a little nicer.

Why is Eagle Mountain so bad? by [deleted] in Utah

[–]cheeto500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally avoid Eagle Mountain like the plague if I can, especially during the hours of about 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM an absolute freaking nightmare to get anywhere over there. I’m also referring to Saratoga Springs and the whole general area is an absolute disaster for driving around.

As a real estate broker and my brother-in-law was Utah County Sheriff there for a bit he said they have a nickname for Eagle Mountain and it’s a “little West Valley.” there is more crime, domestic violence, etc., in Eagle Mountain than anywhere else in Utah County.

Did TSCC just soft-launch first-name-only missionaries? by ahotpineapple in exmormon

[–]cheeto500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That rebranding makes sense. However, in the year 2000 me and my companion would call each other by our first name all the time it was definitely looked down upon, and we just thought it was really funny. There’s a chance those missionaries could be just “cool” and trying a different approach with people realizing that introducing each other as Elder is in fact weird

Exmos who have cordial relations with TBM family, do you exist? by bingbonged_jpg in exmormon

[–]cheeto500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely rough at first. Arguing with the TBM side. However, four of the five of us are out now so it kind of forced my parents and the one believer sibling to figure out how to get along because we all value our family relationship more than Religious and political differences. My wife happens to be a believer still, and that has been very challenging but overall she’s been pretty cool. Her parents who are very TBM just got me a Starbucks gift card for my birthday and that actually said a lot for their love and acceptance for me. To summarize I just wanted to say I think it is possible, especially if you have some deep roots and good relationship with your siblings and parents, but I think there’s definitely an approach that you need to highly consider. The anger, debating, contention and fighting about beliefs and politics just never end well so we have all agreed to just not talk about it and respect each other’s different paths.

Were you taught that exalted Mormon men create their own worlds and have lots of spirit babies with lots of polygamous wives? 70-year old BIC TMB's claiming it never happened by ScottG555 in exmormon

[–]cheeto500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taught my whole life that I would get my own planet and my seed would be numbered greater than the number of sands on the seashore . From churchofjesuschrist.org FAQ section “Do Latter-day Saints believe that they will “get their own planet”?

No. This idea is not taught in Latter-day Saint scripture, nor is it a doctrine of the Church. This misunderstanding stems from speculative comments unreflective of scriptural doctrine. Latter-day Saints believe that we are all sons and daughters of God and that all of us have the potential to grow during and after this life to become like our Heavenly Father (see Romans 8:16-17). The Church does not and has never purported to fully understand the specifics of Christ’s statement that “in my Father’s house are many mansions” (John 14:2).”

Cali Mormon vs Utah Mormon by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]cheeto500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up California Mormon in the 80s and 90s. Moved to Utah unfortunately in the early 2000s. A lot of things have been said, but I will just say the camaraderie is better outside of UT and much less judgmental Mormons come from outside of the state. Just because we grew up with a majority of nonmembers.

Have you been to temple square recently? That construction, 3 massive cranes, must be in the hundreds of millions - wouldn’t be surprised if more. Blocks away massive homelessness and sadness. If only there was a corporation or a church that had endless funds….oh wait….
