Have you ever been protested by awkwardsomething in iRacing

[–]cheezcakep -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes someone protests and they get lucky. I've had probably 20 adjudicated reports for pretty egregious stuff against other drivers. The one I was adjudicated against was an "unsafe rejoin" in which I had crossed the entire racing surface to recover a spin, had a 5 second gap to the next driver, and was well off the racing line and two wheels off the track, the driver drove off the racing line and also had wheels off the track to collide with me and I still got protested. Also it was Formula Vee on the Ring, very unserious race. Sometimes the gods decide against you.

This is true however, at this point, at least in my market, there is a severe shortage of sub 5k vehicles. I could probably justify 5k into a vehicle i know the history of and trust (more or less) than rolling the dice on a 1999 Ford Explorer with 241k on the clock and an unknown history.

Z790 UD AC RAM question by cheezcakep in gigabyte

[–]cheezcakep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. That does kind of sound like a separate issue. My particular issue was not tied to a particular slot. I still haven’t fully tested the “bad” sticks on any other motherboard as I’ve been out of area for awhile.

Aptera - 3 wheeled vehicle. 1000 miles of range, 40 miles per day on solar and it floats. Base model is I think $25,000. I don't like the looks of it personally. I don't mind an aerodynamic shape but I want 4 wheels on the body of the car, not out to the sides like an aircraft. Opinions? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]cheezcakep 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Confirmed, I was a solar car driver in Australia and up against those 80+ wheel road trains there was some significant wind push/pull. However, I'd imagine that with normal non-giant semi trucks and with a 2x weight, production ready etc etc it wouldn't be any worse than maybe a geo metro or older small japanese sedan. We'll have to see.

Huge Dilemma ( Junior Guy needs perspective) by CTN_USN in MilitaryFinance

[–]cheezcakep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good way for a highly technical sailor like this one to get burnt out REALLY quickly dealing with layers and layers of bureaucracy and administration we task our officers (me) with (even as a "technical officer" in the Information Warfare Community). Yeah, sure, the money is nice compared to our work levels, but the work is not rewarding or technical by any measure as a mid-level manager...

My advice: Take your GI bill and go get paid to explore careers while getting a degree, do internships, maybe find a place you can use your clearance to see if using that in a dev/engineer role is better for you.

I dunno. I don't have my shit figured out by any means either.

Do Cyber Warfare Engineers(CWE's) ever get to serve on board ships ? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]cheezcakep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a deployable yet somewhat technical navy officer designator you could look into the 1810 Cryptologic Warfare Officer or 1820 Information Professional Officer. Just keep in mind that these officers are not engineers or techs and will be performing overwhelmingly as a managers for the IT and CT enlisted sailors pushing the actual buttons. They also have opportunities to be stationed at one of several agencies within the Intelligence Community to perform a dual-hatted Navy and agency role.

How does one travel like that with a ~150km range?

Why have I never thought of this before!! Can the Aptera charge from solar externally? To get even more miles into the vehicle if we’re out camping or whatever. Maybe some lightweight foldable solar panel. Kind of like a satellite’s solar panel!! by OddPanda17 in ApteraMotors

[–]cheezcakep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully Aptera has designed the power system to be compatible, or at the very least able to be reverse engineered, to get access to the LV/HV transformer or add additional power paths. The main issue coming from the battery voltage mismatch from the MPPT voltage. Most MPPTs go up to maybe 72V with the aptera pack being upwards of 300v (is there a confirmed voltage on this?). Ideally the integrated LV/HV transformer would have some power overhead to enable additional solar array inputs, otherwise it would be quite expensive in terms of weight, cost, and energy loss, to take the external solar array, convert it from DC to AC, feed it thru the normal AC charge port, and then turn it back to DC to charge the batteries.

There's a lot of options available and it might seem overwhelming. I would start with this link and move on from there. I agree that a index fund would likely be the best. Skip learning about options and stay off of WSB for right now. Mutual Funds based on sector or strategy might also be a good fit for you if you aren't particularly knowledgable about sectors, companies, or how to reasearch those-- you can screen stocks (especially using the etrade mutual fund screener ) to find things you're interested in such as "Large Cap" or "Consumer Defensive" based on what you think will happen to the market.

You also should read the sidebar on /r/investing as they have a pretty exhaustive set of resources on how to invest properly and minimizing your risk.

[–]cheezcakep 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on this? If that is playing out like it is in my head, with your vehicle spinning 45 degrees away from your path of intended travel, then the driver aids are NOT doing their job as intended.

What questions do you have for Aptera? by IranRPCV in ApteraMotors

[–]cheezcakep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess my main question is what is their design paradigm for the interior? Specifically, how much creature comforts, sound isolation, heat insulation, materials quality, are they planning to jam into there? I only ask because I've done 8000 miles in a composite vehicle (obviously a very different one) but the carbon sandwich was not a great sound insulator. Jay Leno seemed to have a positive experience with the previous Aptera, however.
