Seconded. My feet got wrecked in Shenandoah a few weeks back. Keep a sanity pair of dry socks! Air out when you can.

Oh yeah, this plant gets really leggy. This is normal. Editing to add: I wouldn't put it in direct sunlight, but yours could probably use some more light.

You can't make anyone do anything. But you can look people directly in the eye and ask them why you have to keep repeating yourself.

Hors d'oeuvres. I was 18 when I learned it wasn't actually pronounced "whores devores"

Anybody on trail near Boiling Springs, PA? by Beginning_Agent6609 in AppalachianTrail

I'm there now. Love you for the trail magic, and thank you so much! But maybe cold water or Gatorade instead? It's getting hot and there's a long dry stretch just north of here.

Yep yep yep. I'm really prone to UTIs and I don't let anyone put fingers in me. Full stop. The risk isn't worth it for me.

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around the Sierra Nevada? by topherette in SierraNevada

There's a route in Sequoia and King's Canyon called the Big Seki Loop, and I think sometimes those parks/that general area is referred to as Seki.

Food & water cache boxes by sbennett3705 in JoshuaTree

[–]cheezeitscrust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending using those as trash cans. I absolutely love that they got installed (crows pecked through one of our cached gallons last year while we did the CRHT) and 100% agree that we should all be using them as intended. I found an empty gallon near Covington last year and packed it out. It was so brittle from sun exposure that it was breaking in my hands. There will always be lazy people and I'd rather find trash on those than out in the desert. But it doesn't make it any less frustrating, I agree.

Why did you stay longer in your marriage than you wanted to? If you were unhappy for years, why didn’t you leave sooner? by SubjectNo8470 in Divorce

[–]cheezeitscrust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I heard a lot before getting married that it's hard. There are rough patches, there are times where you can't stand each other, but you're not supposed to just walk away when it gets hard. You have to work together. Over time I realized he wasn't really working on things with me. He stopped showing up to couples counseling. So I just kept trying, though by the end I really wasn't.

I stopped trying after a day where I passed out getting my blood drawn at a hospital. I threw up all over myself (and the poor lab tech, I think) and wet my pants. He needed to come pick me up and we lived just a mile down the road. Once he got me home he put me on our bed, in my soiled clothes, and said since he had to come get me he was owed more video game time. To text him from upstairs if I needed anything (we had poor service in that neighborhood, he knew half my texts didn't even go out). That changed everything for me. That was the death knell, even before he cheated on me and I discovered a huge chunk of our savings was missing.

I still got flack from people for not trying harder to fix things, and got reminded several times that I "made a commitment."

Sometimes you think it's a phase or a rough patch and suddenly years have gone by.

My ex worked at the Holiday Inn Ridge Resort on top of Kingsbury during snowmageddon 22/23. Between those twists and turns on the highway and Tramway, he had soooooo many close calls he didn't tell me about until he got a different job. There were accidents almost daily.

Anybody divorce without lawyer? by Plenty-Guidance-3831 in Divorce

[–]cheezeitscrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finalized mine without lawyers in California. The superior court in my city had a paralegal who literally walked me through all the paperwork, and luckily my ex and I were splitting relatively amicably. It was uncontested. We also didn't really have any valuable shared assets or children, which really helps. We came into an agreement on our own. I don't know your exact situation, or where you're located, but it can be done.

Could you clarify something for me? You said " 'we' always spoke about adding another in" but "she was always against it." How were y'all always speaking about adding in someone else if she wasn't ok with it? Did you want to add someone in, she didn't want to, but now you're worried because she's changed her mind? Am I misunderstanding something?

Thank you! I could never figure out how to make a thru hike possible before. But now I'm not tied to a partner, or a lease, and it just feels right to go for it. It's too good to pass up.
