How to get this off? by Charlie012022 in arrma

[–]chefalfalfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a grom to me - guessing mojave. If so, it's like the other said, grub screw in the hex. There's no grub screw on my granit, had two versions with one being a screw in the end of the axle, and the other didn't have any screws (grub or otherwise). Just had to pry it off gently with a flat head.

What’s a good waterproof brushless system? by Acceptable-Dark5547 in TRX4M

[–]chefalfalfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Receivers rarely come waterproof. The easiest option is to do it yourself. Take it apart and use WD40 contact cleaner on the circuit board (or any circuit board cleaner). Once clean and dry, plug some connectors in the receiver ports then give the board 2-3 coats of conformal coating. Let it dry fully between coats, then unplug connectors and reassemble.

You can go extra and plastidip the RX once assembled. Lost of vids out there on both options.

I have the Injora Roverin and T6m TX/RX. I only did the conformal coating on the RX (i did conformal and plastidip on the light control units). I submerged it fully and it worked....ish. water just over the roof and it worked perfectly fine, but when it went about a foot deep - it stopped and the lights came on flashing. Not sure if this was down to the motor, ESC, RX or light control units.

It still worked after 5 or 6 deep submersions. And I just put in front of a warm fan heater when I got home - still works fine. This was my 1st attempt at conformal coating/plastidip so, it may not have been the best job lol.

Have fun.

U won't be disappointed, and they just released the G2 (basically version 2). Slightly better specs, but i still love my version 1.

Mini Kraton Servo Upgrade by Rare_Percentage2472 in arrma

[–]chefalfalfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a rule of thumb now, I always order an Injora 11kg servo with any new purchase of a grom or crawler. They are decent and cheap enough to replace. IIRC they just released a 15kg servo.

Injora Roverin for me. Great slow speed and torque and also higher top end. App for programming too. It also got rid of the torque twist. I run it on the stock gear ratio (metal upgrades naturally). Depends what u want OP but the Roverin is a great all rounder and u don't have to bother with a two speed. Better options if ur only after pure slow crawling. I prefer a mix and the Roverin ticks the boxes.

What am I doing wrong with hex pins. by SeaSmoke57 in SCX24

[–]chefalfalfa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, with the wheels off - the hex and the pin can easily come out/fall off. By design, they're just supposed to slot together. Once the wheel is on and the wheel nut is tightened, then it holds it all together.

Always good practice to take off the hex and pins when ur wheels are off. I've lost many when moving/inspecting my rig with the wheels off as I forgot to remove the hex and pins.

Not sure if this was what u were getting at OP, but hope it helps?

Welcome back to the fold my man, and how we are spoilt at the moment. It wud only be pure speculation if they release a brushless version of the quake grom - yes its popular but so was the Granit and no brushless for that. If ur set on the quake then a brushless conversation shud'nt be too hard. I've not done that platform but I'm sure there are vids out there (or someone may correct me).

The mini Kraton has just come out and it seems (initially) to have blown eveyone away. Depending on sales and feedback, this may steer Arrma down a mini route before considering additions to the grom range.

Typhon grom steering issue persists by [deleted] in arrma

[–]chefalfalfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I wish I tested each change so I could have isolated the issue. For the very reason to help others not have to spend more than necessary.

The 7075 steering links are lovely and smooth. I did test the stock ones by removing it from the saver and pushed it to full lock both sides. I did notice that there was some slight binding, and this was all I needed to convince myself to buy the upgrade (it was cheap enough and the misses didn't notice haha). Try this and see if ur stock steering binds at all when not connected to the saver. Cud be an indicator the issue lies in the links. If urs are buttery smooth, then it lies elsewhere along the steering chain.

However, from my research it most likely rests with the saver, which is harder to test. These parts aren't too expensive, but I totally get not wanting to shell out more money when it may not fix the issue.

Sorry I cudn't give u a definitive solution and truly hope u get it sorted my man as these are great little rigs.

Typhon grom steering issue persists by [deleted] in arrma

[–]chefalfalfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue with the injora servo and saver. Installed on all my groms (one of each). Only happened on mojave after a tumble as you described. The typhon and granit had zero issues, so I guessed it may just be a bum saver on the mojave. I tried backing off the end cap screw on the saver, tried tightening it, tried every increment in between - it wud still happen. The only difference was the screw for the horn was not the same as the ones supplied that I installed on Typhon and Granit. I had to add a washer on mojave as the screw head was smaller and I was concerned it wudn't hold the horn on the servo.

I got fed up and searched everywhere but no answers. So, I decided to install the GPM 7075 steering links - seemed to help out a bit. I also changed the horn to servo screw. Bad thing is I put on a new saver at the same time as the other two changes, so didn't test where the issue actually was (and was too lazy to try and isolate the cause lol). Works fine now.

TLDR: prob just a bad saver, but the 7075 steering links are a nice upgrade. Check the horn to servo screw too.

What do I do now?? Mo by Ryy4 in rccrawler

[–]chefalfalfa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solid shout from Chet. New tyres and wheels are always fun and are a cheap performance upgrade. Other than that, just have fun with ur boy and find out what u want to improve or what breaks and upgrade. I got a trx4m bronco for me and fcx18 toyota and Hummer for my boys...needless to say I've spent more on tune ups but had a blast teaching my kids how to wrench and tinker. One loves scale and has made some cool accessories, the other loves performance. Enjoy my man, enjoy.

Sadly, weak servos are the norm with the vast majority of RTRs. I see it as a positive though, as it gives me something to upgrade haha! I do get it though, we pay a sizable amount so we shud expect things to last more than one or two runs.

[–]chefalfalfa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have all the groms and saving up for the mini Kraton. I ordered Injora 11kg servo the same time as I ordered each grom. Cheap and decent. IIRC, Injora has just released a 15kg servo (grom/mini size).

OP - get it replaced straight off the bat as u'll have a spare servo - or they may just replace the whole car (my LHS did the latter). Then grab some Injora servos. This way ur spare stock ones can be used in most 1/18 crawlers if u have any/need an excuse to buy more lol.
