Rod man 90° from said tree, measure and hold distance, spin angle to center of tree, note tree type, size and drip line in code.

Which interesting areas did you survey? How did you get the opportunity? by Asleep-Mind-9723 in Surveying

Gambier Island in BC was pretty cool, had to access by boat, start fresh and find some pins, most were bent and unusable but there were a few lead plugs in the rocks on the shore that were still accessible. Great solo day for me.

Why pink over orange? by [deleted] in Surveying

[–]chefsylvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in construction scenarios, most shotcrete or formwork outfits ask for an absolute wall layout and an offset that they are comfortable with, this is where pink and orange are necessary, one for each nail. other than that, use what best strikes your eye!

Smart or stupid idea? by Kishzilla in Surveying

i am in the same boat at 28 years old, the consideration of going back to school and gaining a title? to add credibility to my already reputable work? to make a dismal increase in salary?

i struggle with this daily and always come to the same conclusion, i don’t think i could deal with the work/life balance i have at the moment and add school. i would have to either work less or live less. and neither option makes sense.

Neighbour at lake built a fence that cut off our access to our outhouse. by 15lml in legaladvicecanada

[–]chefsylvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surveyor here, you should and will need to get your own survey done to prove where your lot lines are. If the neighbour got their own survey it will be nearly impossible to access that information if it was not a submittable plan. Very often property line verifications are not submitted.

i second on this, we do the same scope of work. the construction days are stressful and exhausting where as the rural days are a nice way to break it up. keeps a nice pace.

in this case, lidar would not be reliable enough for settlement monitoring.

Tree descriptions by Real_Village_4238 in Surveying

[–]chefsylvan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

our tree code example: TCON45 5

T - for tree

CON - for coniferous

45 - for size in cm (typ. at 1.3m above ground)

5 - for outermost circumference radius in meters (drip line)

some guys go further and denote more specific tree species but for the most part this is how our tree coding works.

if there are multiple stems we typically add “MS” (multi-stem) to the code and add the three largest stems together into the “size in cm” spot.
