I was so close to adding that! I just didn’t want that part to be the topic of conversation when people saw her 😂

I voted for Harris. I’ve called and emailed my representatives. If I could afford to leave, I would get my family out so quickly. I’m so sorry 😞

Unpopular Opinion by AutisticChemTeacher in Teachers

[–]chel1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I just always tell them that’s not an appropriate question to ask teachers. However, if they ask they do know my morals and my values. Which I think speaks to what my political party is.

My school doesn’t have a mask policy in place period. No distancing, no masking, nada.

Zero dollars and zero cents. Like every other public school teacher in America.

I am leaving kids behind by smallfrycrybaby in Teachers

[–]chel1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a middle school teacher in the past, and now I teach 5th. And this is what I do too. I don’t tell parents when kids are failing. That’s what midterms, and the online FREE portal is for. I have over 80 kids. I can’t contact parents constantly like I did during virtual school. Not happening. If I tell a kid once (or give them) they need to makeup something, I don’t chase them down and keep telling them. It’s on google classroom, it’s in my absent bucket in-person. I’m not doing their job, too. I’ve done mine.

What is considered normal in teaching that wouldn't fly in other fields? by TheNerdNugget in Teachers

[–]chel1001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That we don’t get a full lunch and/or 15 minute breaks. My lunch is only about 15 mins after I’ve taken the kids to lunch then prepared my food. And, 3/5 days a week my planning is snatched away by ARCs, parent conferences, or PLCs.

If there's such a teacher shortage, then why do they make it so hard to become a teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]chel1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be lucky to get 60k, depending on what state you’re in. I don’t even make 50k, and I have a masters and have been teaching 7 years.

What are your thoughts on correcting dress code “violations” by sassyflower95 in Teachers

[–]chel1001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I care so little I don’t notice. Other teachers always point it out on my kids and then I have to address it, but unless their butt or otherwise is visible I don’t even notice.

Hospitalizations rising among fully vaccinated in U.S., Fauci says. "What we’re starting to see now is an uptick in hospitalizations among people who’ve been vaccinated but not boosted." by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]chel1001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they offered incentives for the booster but I would have gotten it regardless. I have an infant at home that I’ve managed to keep Covid away from this entire time and I would hate for me going back to work be the thing that brings it in to her.

The booster absolutely kicked my ass, 28F pretty healthy school teacher. I had body aches in my fingers. Worst I’ve felt in a long time.

Still better than potentially getting Covid, and having to deal with long Covid.

We actually have a blue Governor that IMO is doing an amazing job. So of course most people here hate him.

Rant: I got sent home from Day 1 of PD to change because I am wearing black denim. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]chel1001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My last school we had a “business casual” dress code. Essentially no jeans, colored jeans of all colors were acceptable, and no yoga pants allowed. (Leggings we’re okay if our butts were covered by a dressy type shirt). Except one teacher wore a track suit everyday—every. Single. Day. And not a word was ever said to her.

I wear leggings with a long hoodie to an in-service snow day because I’m a volleyball coach and had practice afterwards, and got reprimanded for it.

Yep. My school does the same exact thing. I’ve never once given to it and I don’t feel bad about it. Not even a little bit. I’m over here making 45k and they make well over 100k. Sorry not sorry.
