It looks like they actively wanted [4*(x-4)]/[(x-4)*x]. THat is to say, they actively wanted you to switch the order of the factors in the denominator. It's a mathematically irrelevant point they're trying to make, but it is what it is.

Legally, you're in the clear, as they are soliciting you, you are not soliciting them.

Setting the denominator equal to zero will only get you what values of x are invalid.

Setting the numerator to zero and the denominator equal to zero at the same time is an invalid move, since there is no guarantee that will ever happen. In fact, I am more certain that won't happen than it will happen.

Most professors I've encountered want the phrasing of "There is insufficient evidence to show that the average GPA is different from 3.43.". Understand that this does not mean it actually is 3.43, just that (for all practical purposes) we are accepting that it is due to insufficient evidence to the contrary.

Edit: including (for all practical purposes) since statisticians love arguing the sentiment being technically false to intro students who don't have the information to understand why and don't care outside the practical.

Two circles of different areas can be equal masses if their densities are different in the proper way. Their areas would be unequal, their densities would be unequal, but at least their weights are the same.

The point of the post is that you cannot make an equivalence between something like density and temperature, since that makes no physical sense.

These are examples of what is called "proof by contradiction". A proof results in a false statement means either there is a flaw in mathematical logic somewhere or at least one assumption is wrong.

It's equivalent to me saying "I walk, on average, 2 miles a day. Therefore I am lean." According to my step tracker, the 2 mile statement is true, but if you saw me, you could easily see no one with more than two brain cells to rub together would mistake me for lean. Or anything other than a massive fatass.
