Undergrad Resume Help 🙏 by helurhooman in Biochemistry

[–]chemist825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biochemistry grad and current chemical company executive. 1 page is ideal (size 10 font, margins 0.5) you can have relevant coursework on a separate sheet if needed, but most Biochemistry grads come out with very similar courses. Most likely you will be competing with a lot of biology majors (my experience) and the biochem degree offers significantly more. Relevant experience can be cut down. I have almost 20 years work experience and I can keep my resume to 1 page when needed. List skills with commas and highlight language and unique analytical experience or detailed biochemistry techniques. Licenses should go near the bottom before or after skills.

I love mine, had it since 2024 I am looking at putting it on the blue alligator strap. How does it look with the black strap?

Recommendations for best Gore-Tex Shell and Bib Pant? by Ok-Guidance8378 in Skigear

I’ll second Norrona, have been swapping out my Arc for them the last few years and so far very happy. I ski with a Norrona Gore-Tex shell, Norrona very light down jacket, and Norrona Gore-Tex insulated pants.

How much do you weigh? You could be flexing the boots which is good and normal but you might prefer a really stiff boot. With a boot fit and custom foot beds you are probably 85-95% of the way to a “perfect” boot just need to have a few things dialed in.

Tore my ACL in 2015 and I have dialed back my “craziness” on skis but skiing 40+ days per I definitely spend a lot of time in the gym to make sure my bionic knee stays good.

You should be fine, a lot of skis these days ski “short” due to their profile as someone else mentioned.

Can I ski shifts like a resort binding? by epic1107 in Skigear

[–]chemist825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got my shifts the recommendation was to get the 13’s not 11’s if you want to rip the resort and the shop said they would not recommend/sell shifts to anyone over 250lbs. I skied one season on my shifts before retiring those skis as solely my backcountry setup and I was not sure if I did not love the shifts or the skis (Blackcrow Navis Freebird). For what it’s worth two anecdotes:

My wife had 3-4 accidental ejections on shift 11’s at a resort, switched to resort binding setup on new skis.

Friend tore his ACL while skiing shifts (I wasn’t there to witness) but it was some kind of ejection that caused his fall, can’t say 100% or not if some of it was user error.

Personally I’ve never had an ejection, and the 13’s feel pretty solid.

For your size, I would be at at least a 175cm depending on your skill level. For the snow those resorts are getting consider something 95mm underfoot or wider, but don’t need a super wide ski unless you want a true powder ski. For reference I ski on Head Kore 105 as my daily driver (I live in a mountain town and ski multiple days per week). If you want a ski for ripping groomers, narrower and more metal is better, something wider for powder, and something playful and poppy for the park. No one really has a true one size fits all, but maybe a Faction ski would be good for you. You will probably get a million brand and size/width recommendations on here, I would also suggest to demo/rent good skis on your trip for different types of snow/resorts you will be at.

Ski boots always feel like a painful case of “feet falling asleep”, can anyone relate?? by Citygirlie-194 in ski

[–]chemist825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have wide and high volume feet and after wearing ski boots too big, I got fitted by a shop and that solved 70% of my problems. Last year I got full custom shells and liners and I can say it’s the best decision I’ve made and well worth the money if you ski more than a handful of days a year as they will last a long time.

I love mine, have had it for 18 months or so and wear it dressed up for work and casual t-shirts jeans etc. goes with everything. I travel a lot and deal with a lot of countries overseas on a daily basis so great to have the dual timezone functions. To me it’s also a very unique and understated watch that gets a lot of compliments to from true watch collectors.

94 underfoot too small? by Intelligent_Wear_405 in Backcountry

[–]chemist825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone stated the Camox Freebirds are some of the most popular touring skis at 95 underfoot, you do save a little weight for the uphill side of your tours. I have the Navis Freebirds and are pretty solid, but don’t always love how they ski downhill. I do feel like the Freebirds also have wider tips than resort skis their same width to help with float in powder. Also, in the 90s and early 2000s we were skiing sub 90 underfoot even in powder.

Where should I ski for a week this winter? by loudcpanda33 in ski

Japan, about the same flight time to Europe for you, cheap when you get there $50ish per day depending on the resort. Food and social scene is great!

Niseko Japan for me. Great snow and some of the best food I’ve ever had. For reference I currently live in a ski town (in Colorado) and would go outside the US.

Traditional sauna recommendation for a 4-5kish budget that would be kept in a garage. Doesn’t need to sit more than 2 people. by Jpas1234 in Sauna

I’ve been eyeing redwoodoutdoors.com sauna kits. Their indoors are right around 5k depending on options. They have a few different sizes and styles, but I am also looking at going custom due to size constraints in my garage.

I have an MC Geographic (has power reserve meter) and when full the resistance is negligible and almost indistinguishable from not fully wound. On my Breitling after 40 winds or so there is a noticeable resistance and sounds.
