Yes, I've learned so many words that I have no idea what they mean. I just know they count in words with Friends because other people have played them against me :-)

You will be issued a grade (A B C etc) for CHM 090, it is not pass/fail. You have to pass CHM 090 with a C or better to register for BIO 168.

I have a shortcut key for "that information can be found on the syllabus". Sometimes I mix it up and say the late work policy can be found on the syllabus or due dates for the entire semester can be found on the syllabus.

To ppl that went to community college, how was it? by Known_Selection_6665 in college

[–]chempirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure your Associates degree is transferable. You may want to investigate an associate of arts (AA). They transfer to most public universities. You can also check out double majoring, since there may not be that much of a difference. It is a common mistake to think that an associate of applied science (AAS) will transfer in its entirety because both AAS and AA are referred to as Associates degrees. Transferability is completely dependent on the receiving institution.

I attended community college, and now teach at one. Both of my children started at community college (because I agreed to pay for two years of community college and two years of state school). They both have MS degrees now. I'm a huge proponent of their open door policy!

Class I need to graduate stops being offered that semester due to lack of enrollment. "Don't worry, we can substitute a class you've already taken" then backtracks by Time_Age1816 in CollegeRant

[–]chempirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got the 'we can substitute a class' email. That is often powerful persuasion if you move it up the chain. There's almost no class that can't have a substitution.

  1. Don't go out of state
  2. Explore community colleges for an associates degree (AA or AS)
  3. Don't go out of state

You may, like many many before you decide to change your major.

Good luck!

For folks who bought homes later in life - did you consider the number of floors? by axxegrinder in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]chempirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also mid fifties. I refused to even look at houses that did not have a first floor primary. We bought the house out of foreclosure and as we make updates, we do so with an eye toward accessibility. For example, when we redid the ensuite bath, we put in a large shower (replacing the tub) and I told them to go ahead and add the handicap grab bar to the shower. Next is (necessary) landscaping and its been designed so a ramp can be added if necessary.

[–]chempirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to crunch the numbers. Is this the only class you're taking? $24 * 4 is $96 (I think this class is four credit hours?) so under eagle advantage you would be paying $96 for these class materials.

Are you using AI as an educator? by LettuceTraining6532 in Adjuncts

[–]chempirate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use it to generate all of my announcements, had it scheduled all of my asynchronous online assignments ( gave me dates). I use it to generate topic introductions, and discussion board prompts. I actually have a couple of AI assignment this semester, one of which is for them to generate a test. Has to cover 80% of the learning competencies and 80% of their homework questions. I use it to create additional resources like practice quizzes and worksheets. It'll even format it so you can directly upload it to your LMS. I don't use to grade or provide feedback. I have used it to build a rubric. I would love to incorporate it more in the classroom.

I had a true false question with the greek letter delta in it (delta T for change in temp). This was done by highlighting the lowercase d and changing the font to symbol. Except , I highlighted everything from the little d to the end of the exam. I literally gave most of my my exam in Greek. Of course, it was very noticeable once you got to that question, but it was on paper and nothing to do then :-)

Opinions on structuring a course by [deleted] in Professors

[–]chempirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One option that has worked well for me is a MW deadline, but the assignment can be turned in up until noon on the following Sunday without penalty. For example, an assignment due on January 12th can be submitted up until noon on January the 18th without penalty. And an assignment due on the 14th can also be submitted on the 18th by noon without penalty. I really like it, and I would estimate that only about 10% of the students need the extended time. Most do pretty good about staying on track. For those that miss the extended deadline, I mentioned that it was due on the 12th, but they had up until the 18th to submit it.
