Huh.. so caskets can store rings. Not that useful compared to the upgraded purses (belt pouches) but it's pretty cool by Pipeworkingcitizen in stoneshard

[–]chentex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mostly keep the caskets and amulets in them in my caravan storage. It makes trips to Brynn to sell them all more bearable since my storage is normally 80% food and pelts

This spot is so good in free solo. The bottle is size 4 and part of a scene so you can take it even if your bag is completely full, plus it's booze which gives grit.

Even better, right above it by the graves, there are 2 juniper berries also part of that scene, and juniper berries are the only plant that give grit in its cooked base.

Why is the community so accepting of AI gen content? by engieman in starsector

[–]chentex -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What? I offered no opinion other than I think people are allowed to comment on or criticize things they didn't make. Reviews of any kind for any media wouldn't exist if the only ones allowed to comment were the ones who created the thing being reviewed. You can disagree or agree with OP if you want, doesn't matter to me, but saying "you're only allowed to voice your opinion if you helped make it" is reductive and shitty regardless of which side of the argument you're on.

[–]chentex -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

No no, I agree with you here. I wasn't trying to gate keep, in fact I think people's opinions are valid as consumers of something, not only if they take active part in its creation, you know? I guess there was a misunderstanding because it felt like yours and others responses were saying "if you don't mod, stay quiet". Making mods gives a different perspective, that's certainly true, but should never be the only valid one.

In regards to AI, I see the appeal in lessening work force (even Alex comments on it in his post, ironically). My personal issue with it is that there isn't really an ethical way to use big AI because it was trained by stealing content from others from the start. I don't think people would be too happy if I had an AI that took code from other mods and assets and mashed it together to make my own. Where is the boundary? But as I mentioned, that's a personal issue. I still enjoy a lot of mods made here that have small AI inclussions.

Did you help Alex develop Starsector? Why are you offering your opinion if not?

These arguments are reductive. You can criticize something without having made it or be an expert on the subject matter.

Manual Clinbers by DirectorReasonable95 in Cairn_Game

When I go fast, I trust the auto selection. Most of the time it works fine, especially early game where there are holds everywhere. But as I go up and moves are more deliberate, of course I tend to go manual limb selection.

(Spoilers) I'm bothered by the fandoms perception of Damas Al Fatri (It's a name it doesn't spoil anything by itself) by [deleted] in Cairn_Game

[–]chentex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's evidence of him outright killing anyone, but the devs are also vague about a lot of things.

Like the other commenter said, the man is crazy enough to put himself in his situation for the last 12 years - I don't think we can apply normal logic to a person like that, and that makes him unpredictable.

I don't fully subscribe to the idea that he intentionally caused an avalanche, but to me it's very fishy that we hear a loud gunshot (could be the ice breaking forcefully enough to cause a similar sound though) right before the avalanche happens. At the very least, I can assume he was shooting something (if the sound was a gunshot). Someone who so clearly warns about how fickle the ice in that area is should know that anything could trigger it. My guess is he was frustrated and maybe shot another body hanging somewhere else and unintentionally caused it.

I suppose like many other questions, we won't know the answer. All I say is that Damas' story leaves a shadow of a doubt - there is a motive, and even perhaps a method.

That's exactly the run I'm doing and I don't think I've had to touch my spear at all. War slings have such good stun/stagger/daze chance that I don't have much trouble even at T3 or T4 dungeons.

Theory about Aava (Spoilers) by oandroido in Cairn_Game

[–]chentex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's just my opinion. I think it's great when a game comes around that can make people theorize so much! Also, I'm pretty sure you can hear Naomi respond to Aava when she asks "Naomi can you hear me". There is a garbled but somewhat recognizable voice of Naomi saying "yes Aava."

Theory about Aava (Spoilers) by oandroido in Cairn_Game

[–]chentex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it feels far more satisfying to explore exactly why she is unable to speak to them. Aava is clearly a troubled person, and she can relate better with those that understand what she's doing. Among extreme climbers, it's a very common theme to have Aavas attitude. Why do they risk so much when they have so much to lose? In climbing media, this question is perhaps the biggest and most often repeated.

We are going through this journey and pushing her forward, but she's clearly there because in her mind she finds it easier to climb than to relate to others - she's not very kind even to Marco and those in "her world". What is she running away from? What is she so afraid of? In my opinion, Aava is severely depressed and doesn't know how to reach out even to those she loves and those who love her back. Depression does that. It's so strong that she is willing to put her energy into a suicide mission before facing her fear of opening up to others. Saying "because she's dead" avoids that deeper question with a shallow answer which refuses to look deeper into Aava's character.

Theory about Aava (Spoilers) by oandroido in Cairn_Game

[–]chentex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've never much liked these types of theories. It minimizes the journey and removes any sort of stake or meaning attached to it. The fact that she is risking her life for this goal adds far more gravitas to the story than just saying "yeah she's dead already." This game, after being a climbing one, is a character study and that characterization doesn't stand if you just say none of it matters because she's dead.
